Chapter 88: Chapter 88: First Day of School

The next morning, Li Jain woke early before dawn. After getting dressed he headed to the kitchen to prepare breakfast. He laid out seven different portions. For their school lunches, he decided to make all of their favorite dishes and snakes.

The kitchen was very spacious, and everything was neatly arranged. By the time the sun rose, the kitchen was filled with delicious aroma.

As soon as the kids woke up, they dashed down to the kitchen excitedly. When they arrived, they saw the delicious breakfast spread on the dining table. Their eyes sparkled with happiness.

"Good morning, Father"

"Good morning, Daddy"

They greeted him one after the other.

"Good morning, my dear sweet and precious buns," Li Jain smiled warmly at them.

"Buns? Are they edible?" Li Jingxuan asked with a mischievous smile.

"I don’t mind taking a bite." Li Jain grabbed him by the waist and pretended to bite his arm.

"Stop, that tickles... hahaha" Li Jingxuan wigged and giggled uncontrollably: "I’m not delicious, eat someone else."

But the brothers all took a step back, leaving Jingxuan feeling betrayed.

"Father, are we doing our regular morning exercises ?" Li Yujian asked.

Li Jain shook his head and put Jingxuan down: "Just do ten minutes stretching and get ready for school. You’ll have breakfast when you’re all dressed up."

"Okay," the boys ran out without complaints

"Jingsheng, help me sit on my legs please, while I do a sit up." Li Jingxuan called out

"Whose going to sit on my legs while I’m sitting on yours?" Li Jingsheng points at himself

Jingxuan was puzzled and thought for a moment, he sighed and gave in: "Fine then! After I do 15 sit ups, it’ll be your turn."

Li Jingsheng was reluctant but eventually agreed.

"Fluffy, come on, jump. Don’t be a lazy fox." Juanxin did a hand stand and urged the fox to jump over him without bumping into him.

But Fluffy wasn’t so willing: You foolish boy, your father said stretched, how come you want me to do it with you?

Li Juanxin was not convinced: "As my companion, you have to share the hardship with me."

Fluffy pouted: "You only know how to share hardship with me. But when you get your snacks, you forget about sharing them with me."

"You greedy fox, don’t you also have snacks , why are you always coveting mine?"

While Li Juanxin argued with his pet Fluffy, the others were doing stretches in pairs.

After ten minutes, they went to take a bath and change into their new school robes. Li Jain stood to the side, watching them busying around.

They’re so... cute

That was the word that came to mind, he really wanted to pinch all of their cheeks. He was amused by himself and smiled. The robes fit them well, after the adjustments he made to them last night.

They were dressed in three Academies uniforms but it didn’t look out of place. Although these three Academies are competitors, Li Jain thought his buns are the bridge that would bring them closer.

What he didn’t know is that, once his buns return, they’ll have another thing going on. One defending their own school, while criticizing the others without mercy.

But that was for later:

For now, Li Jain was helping his children get ready.

"I can do my own hair, thanks for the thought, father." Li Yujian gently rejected Li Jain’s help.

Li jain didn’t give up: "Xiao Han, let me help you instead." He called out to Li Yuhan.

"Ok," Yuhan agreed without hesitation.

He sat before the mirror as Li Jain combed his hair.

A few minutes later, after watching Li Jain struggle with Yuhan’s hair pulling too tight here, and losing too much there; Li Cheng and Li Zhang took a step back at the same time.

They looked at each other in horror.

"No, Absolutely not!" Li Zhang said firmly and Li Cheng nodded in agreement.

"No, what?" Li Jain who thought he was doing a good job, glanced sideways at them.

Li Cheng put on a cheesy smile: "Nothing, we’re just very confident in our abilities to do our own hair. We wouldn’t want to trouble Father."

"Yea, why don’t you help Xinxin out when you’re done? I’ll help with Sheng and Xuan." Li Zhang agreed and suggested

Li Jain pauses: "Are you sure?"

"Yes." They nodded their heads vigorously.

Li Zhang’s movements were efficient , unlike Li Jain’s clumsy and messy motions, he was about to add the finishing touch to Jingsheng’s hair when Jingsheng suddenly spoke up.

"I don’t want anything stylish. It’s against the dress code of Azure Cloud Academy." He said flatly.

Li Zhang was stunned for a moment, then scoffed: "Boring"

He grabbed Jingsheng by the shoulder and pushed him towards Yujian, saying: "Go, let brother Jian fix you. You guys are two boring fish in the same pond."

Li Yujian didn’t comment, he tied Jingsheng’s hair into a simple ponytail with no bangs.

After styling Jingxuan’s hair, Li Zhang took the opportunity to redo Yuhan’s hair while Li Jain was busy with Juanxin. He claims to not want to be embarrassed walking alongside someone whose hair is like a startled horse.

"What are you doing?" Yuhan asked with a frown.

"Stay still, I’m making you look good."

"Just don’t over do it."

"You should be grateful, I’m saving your skin"

Yuhan rolled his eyes at the remark, but let him go ahead anyway

Li Jain said he’ll be back and left the room. Li Zhang looked at Juanxin’s hair that his father just did, and sighed helplessly. His father is good at many but styling hair is definitely not one of them.

"I like what Daddy did, I don’t want you to redo it." Li Juanxin refused right away.

To Juanxin, whatever his father did, is the best. He wouldn’t tolerate anyone badmouthing it.

Li Zhang wrecked his brain and thought about ways to persuade him: "Daddy handwork is the... best. But he forgot to do it just like your school required. I’m just fixing it, slightly."

Li Juanxin hesitated

Li Jain watched from the door and pretended not to notice. But he couldn’t help wondering; was he really that bad at styling hair?

Only after Li Zhang redo Juanxin’s hair did Li Jain enter the room. He had several unfamiliar items in his hand and placed them on the table.

Those were modern style backpacks. They were just the right sizes with three pockets. Their designs were quite unique and the children love them. There was a small water bottle attached to the side pocket.

"These are backpacks. They’ll help carry your books and lunches, including other school materials."

"So they’re storage bags?"

"Yes, but the storage space I added are not large enough to carry heavy things"

They each chose the ones they wanted and opened them right away. They were surprised to find a big book of thick white sheets.

"WOW, this is so pretty."

"I have never seen a sheet this white before."

"The thickness is just right. The ink won’t pass through it."

"These are notebooks. I prepared an extra pack for you. You can write or draw whatever you want inside."

The children didn’t ask where he got those unique materials, only thinking that their father is incredible.

During breakfast, everyone was talking and laughing. They couldn’t wait to set off.

"What are your goals for school?" Li Jain asked

"What are school goals?" Li Juanxin asked in returned

"School goals are like small missions at school. They’re things you may want to get good at, like reading, or being the student." Li Jain tries his best to give the simplest definition possible.

Luckily Juanxin understood and nodded.

"I want to beat everyone in the arena next time. Especially that teachers’ pet guy." Li Zhang said firmly.

He still hasn’t forgotten the guy that stole his thunder during the entrance exam.

"That’s reckless." Li Cheng replied

"I want to finish the core curriculum early." Li Yujian said calmly.

"Me too," Jingsheng joined him.

"That’s boring." Li Yuhan and Jingxuan said simultaneously.

As each child said their goal seriously, it was immediately criticized by another. Li Jain was amused and didn’t say anything. After they put away their lunch boxes, it was time to head out.

They walked to the entrance together. Li Jain saw Juanxin carrying his fox Fluffy with him and asked: "Xinxin, will that be allowed?"

Li Juanxin looked at Fuffly in his arms and nodded: "It’s okay, it will be kept under watch and won’t run off."

"But just in case, if it’s not allowed, let Daddy bring it back home, ok?" Li Jain suggested gently, but strangely enough, Juanxin didn’t answer right away.

Instead, he looks at him with an uneasy expression: "Father... they have to allow Fluffy to stay with me. I promise he’ll be good."

Li Jain sighs softly. This is going to be tough. They haven’t left home yet and Juanxin is already starting to feel insecure.

"Get on, let’s go first." Li Jain smiled reassuringly.

They boarded the flying horse carriage and headed for the nearest Academy, Azure Cloud Academy in Fengwu City.
