Chapter 35: Bloodlust

Zane looked at Ava. "So you’re saying there might be a place that has some information about vampires? And the Empire hasn’t taken it down?" he asked, giving her a skeptical look.

"I found it by accident. Sure, if the Empire knew what to search for, they would find it, but they don’t.

Vampires aren’t just hated, you guys are used as stories to make even kids behave. For a long time, I thought demons were the worst race until I discovered you guys," Ava said.

"Hate can’t exist for long without a reason. Someone must be silently pushing the hate of vampires," Lucy said.

"Makes sense. But for someone to push a hate for this long, then we must have really pissed them off," Zane said. 𝒇𝙧𝙚𝓮𝙬𝙚𝓫𝒏𝓸𝓿𝓮𝒍.𝓬𝙤𝓶

"Now that I’ve told you what I know, are you allowing me to come with you?" Ava asked.

"Your information was indeed useful. We have a target now, so yes, you can come with us," Zane said.

Lucy frowned when she heard that. She glared at Ava. "If you try to come close to my master, you know what will happen," Lucy spat and walked away. She walked at a fast pace that showed her anger but almost tripped on a stone. She managed to stop herself from falling and kept walking, not looking back at all.

Zane could barely hold in his laugh when he saw it. He had forgotten that she was terrible at basic activities.

As soon as she was out of sight, Ava slipped her hands around Zane’s body, hugging him tight and running her fingers on his abs.

Zane froze for a moment, feeling an electric shock run down his spine.

"She’s gone, so let’s have a little fun. I need to taste," she said seductively, her voice sounding like warm butter sliding down, it was comforting, suggestive, and controlling.

"I see how you’re able to take your victims. Your voice has a similar effect to a vampire’s charm. But I have a higher than normal mental strength, and also, it’s night, I’m at peak state right now," Zane said and slowly pried her hands off him and started walking away.

"So what you’re saying is if I want you, I should come during the day," she spoke, still in her seductive tone.

"That’s not what I said. And if Lucy gets you, she’ll kill you, that’s a promise. So be careful," Zane said, waving his hands in the air.

"Hmmm." She smiled. "You said everything, but you didn’t say no," she muttered to herself.

Zane returned to camp only to be greeted by a message:

[Your vampire has entered a bloodlust state.]

It was some sort of warning. He wasn’t sure exactly what it meant, but then Lucy spoke. "Grey, he is in bloodlust. I can sense it," she said, looking around. She looked at the adventurers still sleeping. "He has great self control, but his hunger has gone beyond what he can handle," she said.

Zane recalled that the system said Grey was a Daywalker, and that meant he needed more blood. He had forgotten about that and didn’t even ask Grey if he was hungry.

"What happens in a bloodlust state?" he asked.

"He’ll turn into a savage vampire beast that craves blood. The fact that he didn’t go for the adventurers shows that he has massive control, but not for too long," Lucy explained.

"I see. Well, take their leader, we’ll use him as food for Grey. After all, he lied to me today," Zane said. He didn’t forget that the leader had hidden the drop, and now the perfect use for a lying piece of shit had arrived.

Boom

Suddenly, Ava was blasted out of the forest, her hands crossed as her marks glowed. She stared at the forest ferociously.

Zane felt a presence coming from where she was looking, and he could tell already that it was Grey.

"Ava, you don’t mind if we feed one of your adventurers to that savage vampire, right?" Zane asked.

She looked at him, a bit of confusion on her face, but then realization followed. "Wait, that savage beast is yours?" she asked.

"He is Grey. You saw him today. He’s simply starved and has entered a bloodlust state. I’ll deal with him," Zane said and stepped forward. "Lucy, get him," he said.

Her eyes locked on the leader, and to her surprise, he was awake, they all were. The commotion had woken them up.

"What’s going on?" he asked, but was met with no response. She grabbed him by the neck and lifted him off the ground. She threw him over to Zane in one move.

He slammed into the ground and skidded over to Zane, who rose to his feet and stepped on him. Zane looked down, a smile on his face.

The man was stunned, confused, and scared. "What—what’s going on?" he spoke in fear.

"I asked you today to gather the drops for me, and you took what was mine after I saved your life. That really pissed me off, you know," Zane said.

The look of confusion on the man’s face deepened. He looked at Zane. "There was nothing, I swear..." Zane added pressure, cracking some ribs. The man coughed blood and groaned in pain.

"I already know the truth. I just wanted to let you know I know and for you to know that the reason you will die now is because of that," Zane said and then looked up, waiting for Grey.

Finally, Grey showed up, walking out of the forest, a seven-foot-tall creature with dark pale skin that clung to the massive bone structure that hunched over. His arms were skinny and had long claws. His eyes bulged and glowed red. His mouth had all sharp teeth and no normal ones.

It licked its face with its very long pointed tongue. It was a complete monster.

"So this is what vampire starvation turns you into. But in this form, he seems a lot stronger," Zane said. He bent down and grabbed the man.

"Please, no! Please, I beg you, spare my life. I’ll give you the drop. I have a family, please!" the man begged when he saw the monster. He sweated profusely.

"Nah, too late," Zane said and tossed him.
