Daddy CEO's Beloved Wife-Chapter 590: Live Auction
What had once been a banquet hall filled with laughter and polite conversation had now fallen into a hushed anticipation.
The male host smiled, his voice louder as he gestured toward the stage behind him, where a red velvet curtain hung from the ceiling.
It parted like a fountain.
And the first cage rolled out.
Metal bars gleamed under the spotlight.
Inside was a young woman huddled, her head bowed, wrists bound behind her. Her hair was smoothed, and her dress pristine and thin, shaping her figure seductively.
As soon as she was out, she did not scream. Her pupils were blown wide and empty.
But no one seemed to think something was off.
A murmur swept through the hall.
"A good one, don't you think?" someone muttered.
"Her skin is smooth and pale. It's going to be a good one to leave a mark on."
The host smiled contentedly at the guests' interest in the first good that came out.
"Our first produce tonight," he said. "She was once a model from Russia. Educated and with a clean background. She lived in a village and was scouted by one of Mrs. Bragov's modelling agencies. Untouched and properly trained before shipped."
A number appeared on the screen behind him.
"The price will start at 1 million dollars with an increment of 500,000 dollars!"
The bidding began immediately.
Cao Yujin stared wide-eyed at what was going on.
Her shock was to be expected, given that this was her first time being invited to a place like this. She looked at her grandfather, but they didn't share the same reaction. He looked as if everything was completely normal.
"What the hell is this?" she whispered with a breath.
"It's a human auction," someone answered her.
She looked to her side and found Percy looking disinterested; his eyes were still locked on the stage.
"How is this—"
"Legal?" Percy finished her word. "Don't act so surprised. The market and businesses like this never cease to exist. It just isn't publicly recognized."
Publicly, human auctions were illegal and were doomed to be persecuted. However, if weapons could be smuggled and drugs made in secrecy, how is it possible for this kind of auction not happen anywhere?
With all the money and power a person could have, buying luxury goods has been a boring activity. Thus, they looked for another kind of entertainment.
Cao Yujin nodded, slightly shaken by the sudden reality she was pushed into. But looking at her grandfather and how he had dealt with this, she conditioned her mind and quickly accepted everything. She noted to herself that she should get used to this, as this was what it meant to have power over the world.
At this moment, a man in a butler uniform approached their table.
The butler lowered his head to whisper a few words to Percy, who showed a surprised expression before chuckling.
A hushed conversation that only the two of them could hear was exchanged before he finally nodded.
"I'll have my fiancé come with you."
Cao Yujin looked at him in alarm, asking with her eyes what he wanted to do.
But Percy only smiled at her and said, "Go with this man. They seem to have something special that I think you'd be delighted to see."
Cao Yujin did not want to go, but a look shot toward her from her grandfather silenced the words in her mouth.
She nodded lightly and stood from her chair. The butler guided her through the hall before they completely disappeared once they turned a corner.
In the hall, more cages followed.
Different faces. Different ages. And different genders. But the same vacant eyes.
Each one paraded, appraised, and priced.
Each one stripped of humanity with applause and bought with money.
The monitor's light painted Song Yu Han's face as he stared at the screen, watching what happened on the stage and banquet hall.
His eyes flickered across each monitor filling the wall while a few men lay unconscious on the ground and on the chair inside the room.
Where are you, Ran Xueyi?
…
With a breath, Ran Xueyi tried to rush across the room and reach the door.
The moment the man had gone away, and the door was slowly closing as several people settled inside the room, she made her move.
It did not matter to her that she was only in a towel. Or the fact that she was up against a number of people. She just wanted to take the chance the moment it showed up.
Although it was still a gamble on her part, considering that she was alone, it didn't deter Ran Xueyi from acting on her instincts.
As she was only a few feet from the door, the men who came inside the room finally reacted a beat later. Still, they acted quickly to block her, their arms spreading wide to catch her.
But they underestimated her.
Unlike the easy girls they were used to, Ran Xueyi did not avoid or stop her sprint. Instead, the moment the armed men blocked her way, she quickly pivoted her foot and slid on the floor.
She outstretched her arms to take a gun from the holster one man had on their hip and pulled the trigger, hitting one of them on the leg. Then another.
The bang produced by the gun echoed loudly.
Chaos has also started on their side.
Ran Xueyi did not stop as she was finally out of the room. They were still hot on her back, but she no longer turned around as she faced the front.
Unfortunately, a few people were stationed in the hallway.
But Ran Xueyi didn't pause as she raised her hand holding the gun.
With a determined expression, her finger pulled the trigger a couple of times, sending everyone outside to try and avoid the bullets, running from being murdered on sight.
Some got hit on their chest, legs, and arms. A few remained unscathed, dodging before Ran Xueyi could pull the trigger.
Still, the chaos gave her a path and time to escape.
