Daddy, You Got The Wrong Mommy-Chapter 429: She Knows How to Thrive
"Stop right there, what are you standing around for? Hurry up and get him back!"
The man yelled at the bodyguards.
The bodyguards followed orders and quickly went over to stop Frost Moore.
Lily Johnson was startled and quickly blocked their way, "Don’t touch him."
"Move aside."
The bodyguards looked menacing.
Lily picked up a nearby bottle and smashed it, pointing it at the advancing bodyguards, "Back off, the bottle doesn’t have eyes."
Seeing the slender figure of the woman blocking him, Frost Moore felt incredibly conflicted.
He pulled her aside, his hand holding a silver needle.
"If you want to be paralyzed, by all means, come and try."
The bodyguards hesitated slightly but then attempted to seize Frost Moore.
Frost Moore swiftly stepped aside, and with the silver needle in hand, stabbed it into the acupoint of a bodyguard.
The bodyguard collapsed immediately.
The other two bodyguards saw this and stopped, hesitating.
The silver needle in his hand was terrifying.
They didn’t want to be paralyzed.
Frost Moore glanced at them and smirked, pulling the stunned Lily Johnson away.
"Frost, you’re amazing."
Lily looked at him with admiration.
Frost Moore led her to a secluded corner and released her hand.
"Lily, a woman needs to learn self-respect and self-love. What is it, are you used to being hit on by men in the bar all day, so you don’t mind anymore?"
Frost Moore looked disgusted, and the smile on Lily’s face faded away.
"Frost, is this how you see me? In your view, am I just a woman without self-respect?"
"Isn’t that the case? If you had self-respect, you wouldn’t sleep with me after meeting me only twice."
Frost Moore was angry and only wanted to mock her harshly.
Lily’s face turned pale, her eyes flashing with disbelief and hurt.
So, in his eyes, her sacrifice was a sign of not respecting herself?
If she were a self-respecting woman, how could she easily have relations with an unfamiliar man?
"Sorry, Mr. Moore. It’s my lack of self-respect and self-love that tarnished your wonderful and sacred character. I won’t do it again."
Lily forced a smile that looked worse than crying, turned, and walked away.
The woman’s slender back seemed to have reddened eyes as she glanced at him.
Frost Moore opened his mouth, wanting to call her back.
But in the end, he withdrew the hand he wanted to reach for her, closed his eyes, and suppressed the words on his lips.
She deliberately approached him without true feelings.
Someday she would leave him, so why hold onto these fleeting moments of happiness?
Without everlasting happiness, he’d rather not have experienced it.
Lily went backstage, feeling low.
She suppressed the sourness in her nose, planning to ask the manager for time off.
"Oh my, what to do? Are all these musicians so unpredictable? They’re not coming, so the venue will be empty?"
The manager’s angry voice came from his office.
Lily paused, her hand on the door stopped.
What’s the manager complaining about?
Is it the singer scheduled to perform who hasn’t arrived?
"If anyone can come to save the show now, I’d treat her like a goddess."
The manager opened the door, ready to make a phone call.
Lily almost bumped into him, and she quickly took two steps back.
Seeing the manager preparing to leave in a hurry, Lily called out, "Manager, is it the singer who hasn’t come? Why don’t you let me try?"
The manager has been nice to her; if she could help, she should.
And, her singing is quite decent; she won the campus singing contest at school.
Replacing for one song shouldn’t be a problem.
"Can you?"
The manager stopped, looking at her with hopeful suspicion.
"I think I can. How about I sing a couple of lines for you?"
Seeing the manager’s doubt, Lily coughed lightly and sang a couple of lines.
The manager raised his eyebrows and quickly led her backstage.
"Alright, treating a dead horse like a living one, you’re up."
"Manager, I’m not a dead horse, I’m a dark horse."
"..."
Not admitting she’s a dead horse, Lily changed into her outfit, applied suitable makeup, communicated briefly with the band, and went on stage with a guitar.
Snap.
The lights dimmed, a beam illuminated the center of the stage.
It lit up Lily, who was seated on a chair.
The woman let her long, straight black hair fall casually over her shoulders.
Her slender fingers lightly plucked the strings, accompanied by an ethereal voice echoing in the air.
"Longing is such a mysterious thing, following like a shadow..."
The woman’s voice was entirely different from the usual singers at the bar.
The bar briefly fell silent, seemingly captivated by her unique voice.
Her clear voice seemed capable of soothing inner turmoil, leading people to the pristine and beautiful ivory tower, filled with dreams.
In the corner of the stage, Frost Moore sat sipping his drink, watching the person on stage intently.
Is it Lily?
She sure is adaptable.
No longer selling drinks, now singing instead!
Longing?
She’s singing about longing.
Longing for whom?
Him?
Or those men around her!
Frost Moore felt a heat through his body, unsure if it was because of agitation or because of her.
He drank glass after glass, listening to the crowd cheer and focus on her.
This restless woman, doesn’t she particularly enjoy being the center of attention?
He abandoned her, so she’s already eager to find another man?
She’s his woman; would she dare try to find someone new?
Watching Lily finish the last note on stage, bowing and stepping back, Frost Moore placed his glass heavily, staggered towards the stage.
Backstage, the manager exhaled deeply, smiling at Lily, "I didn’t know you had such a great voice, why didn’t you say so earlier? Don’t be a server anymore, just be a bar singer."
Hearing this, Lily smiled, noncommittal.
"Manager, I still prefer being a server."
Though server pay is less and rank lower, singing in the bar attracts too much attention.
Too much more than a server.
She prefers not to stir up trouble.
"What’s so good about being a server? Do you sometimes earn more tips?"
The manager teased, "Lily, Director Lu said he’d fund your education, and you’ll have a guaranteed job after, so why earn money desperately?"
Upon hearing this, Lily packed her things, "That’s different, who would complain about having too much money."
"True. Lily, I really couldn’t see through you, you’re quite skillful. I see Frost Moore was captivated by you, even got into a fight with guests just for you."
The manager teased.
Lily’s hand paused, about to say something, when she noticed Frost Moore standing at the door, looking at her with a somber face.
Lily: "..."
What did he just hear?
Today is definitely a bad day!
