Daily life of a cultivation judge-Chapter 911: In looking to avoid it, we delivered ourselves into it
"Even before we knew what the cauldron could do, we could see it.." Xiao Gun said as he looked distantly with a longing look.
"Our lives changed forever, our fortunes changed forever. We would no longer have to live as vermin, scurrying and hiding all over, surviving and living off of the garbage others didn’t care for.
We could finally regain our identity as humans... living humans.
After the excitement had died down then came the decision of what to do next with the divine treasure that had just fallen on our laps.
We still did not know the origins of it, but the fact it was a cauldron, ladle, and scroll, we made an educated guess whatever its origins were, it had something to do with alchemy. Of us three, Yao Chang was the only one who was a practicing alchemist, so we sought his opinion first.
If it was indeed related to alchemy, we had two options, one was to sell it and use its proceeds to strengthen ourselves, or the other was to stay with it in the hopes that maybe Yao Chang could uncover its mysteries.
At first, in consideration of us, he was of the opinion we sell it all and split the earnings from the sell, but in all these years, he has never been good at masking his true feelings.." Xiao Gun said as he dryly laughed.
Yao Chang from the slight embarrassment of being called out, had a sheepish grin on his face, as he awkwardly scratched the back of his left palm.
"Fu Yong and I could tell he was curious about the cauldron and wanted to try his hand at it, but felt it would be selfish of him to want to do so when it wasn’t a guarantee he would be able to decipher its mysteries.
The cauldron and the scroll, separate may have had the strength of monarch-grade artifacts, but in their dormant states, they were about as useful as a rock by the roadside.
Yao Chang’s apprehensions about studying the cauldron and the scroll were valid. Time was the one thing we all didn’t have the luxury of, but if there was a chance Yao Chang could glean anything from it, we felt it was worth taking a gamble on it.
We stood more to gain from it rather than sell it immediately, so eventually we decided on a compromise. Two years, two years was the time limit we set on it, if in two years Yao Chang wouldn’t glean anything then we would sell it..."
"I failed," Yao Chang interjected with a dejected tone, as he lowered his head.
"Neither Fu Yong nor I blame you, nor do we regret the choice we made, besides, you did have a bit of success with the scroll," Xiao Gun gently said trying to comfort his friend, who nodded in appreciation.
"The cauldron remained a complete mystery, while the scroll, after fiddling with it, Yao Chang managed to gain something from it. The scroll reproduced two recipes and in doing so, it revealed some of its abilities.
The two recipes were produced when Yao Chang was crafting two potions he was good at. The instant he finished going so, two parchments flew from the bound bamboo scrolls. The two parchments contained a recipe for the very potions he was brewing, the difference being the recipe was much more refined than what Yao Chang had.
When Yao Chang followed the recipe, his potions which were above average in quality, leaped to almost perfection. I have no doubt it would have been perfect had we used the secondary materials the recipe had suggested, instead of using alternative materials which resulted in a slight drop in quality.
But even then it was already evident to us how invaluable the scroll was, thus we decided to keep the scroll, sell the cauldron, and use the funds from the sale to not only improve ourselves but also buy more resources in the hopes of unlocking more of the scroll’s abilities.
Among the pieces of information the overseer at the Sacred Kirin Manor had left with us, one of them was where to go if we did decide to sell or have the treasures appraised.
The bulk of the places he suggested were merchant organizations that were rank two and above, from Oak Leaf Manor to White Rose Pavilion to the Earth Dragon Pavilion, and the rest. His advice was for us to go to well-established rank two organizations and above to reduce the chances of being taken advantage of or outright robbed because of our status.
He did place special emphasis on White Rose Pavilion if we were looking to have it appraised, but if we were looking to sell both artifacts completely, then selling it to the Medical Saint Garden Sect was our safest bet.
As to his opinion, if we wanted compensation or evaluation that depicted the true value of what we had, then the two rank one organizations in White Rose Pavilion, and the Medical Saint Garden were our best bets for ensuring it.
We didn’t listen, well we did, but not completely.." Xiao Gun said in a slightly embarrassed tone, his emotions mirrored by Yao Chang, who also lowered his head with a pained look in his eyes.
"Because of his kind intentions, though well-meaning, we were automatically suspicious of him. After all, in our experience, no one ever does anything out of the goodness of their heart unless there is something in it for them.
We thus assumed that the overseer must have had some type of relationship with those two organizations, and his intentions may have not been pure, completely ignoring the fact that he was the one who, though didn’t expound much, opened our eyes to the true value of what we had.
Fear and experience overrode reason, and no matter how unreasonable the thought was, we instantly assumed the two rank one organizations and that overseer was in cahoots with each other. If we went there it would be no different than delivering ourselves to a lion’s den.
We would get taken for everything we had, and quite possibly maybe even killed. Those were the thoughts running through our minds.
Eventually, we decided we would heed a part of his advice, and we settled for a well-established rank two organization. This led us to the gates of the Golden Bamboo Pavilion, and because we were afraid of being robbed, we thought it wise rather than deal with the main headquarters, it was safer to have the deal done at one of their branches.

Because we didn’t listen and thought ourselves prudent and experienced. In looking to avoid trouble, we ended up delivering ourselves into one, and that misstep ended up costing Fu Yong his life.." Xiao Gun grimly said.
