"Is that so?" Yang Qing asked with an amused smile.

"It is.." Yao De answered without a ripple in his emotion which prompted another smile from Yang Qing as his eyes twinkled.

"Okay then.." Yang Qing as he comfortably leaned back in his seat before pausing midway there as his attention drifted over to a certain silver-haired elder with an impassive expression.

Yang Qing smoothly transitioned from leaning back to straightening his back, skillfully hiding any awkwardness in him as he did so.

"Branch manager, have you ever heard of the cryptkeepers?" leisurely asked Yang Qing, his gaze and demeanor mildly playful.

The branch manager confused at where all this was headed, answered,

"No, I haven’t."

His response elicited a mild reaction from Imperial Household Manager Liu Guan, who couldn’t help for the first time but give the branch manager a once over before he sighed when his gaze returned to Lin Guiren and his wife.

Whether it was Gong Jie, Duan Hu, Xiao Gun, or Yao Chang, they all looked puzzled. Only the domain expert present seemed undisturbed.

"How about the catacombs of paradise and abyss?" Yang Qing continued with the soft interrogation.

"I haven’t heard of them either. What do they have to do with the case?" asked Yao De still confused as to why Yang Qing would ask about names he had never heard of.

Yang Qing as if he was waiting for that question, leaned forward with clear excitement showing from his widened smile to his gleaming eyes.

"This world is full of inexplicable things and for some reason, the number seems to grow the more powerful one becomes. Do you agree with such a sentiment Branch Manager Yao De, or is it just me?"

"I agree.." Yao De solemnly answered. His eyes were still of someone unsure of where all this was going.

"I have seen countless things that subverted my imagination over the years, and I do not doubt that number will continue to grow..." Yang Qing paused as he clasped his hands together.

"Now, if you ask anyone, they’ll tell you, I’m the biggest coward there is. I am afraid of dangerous situations, and would do anything to avoid it.."

Yang Qing cut his sentence short when he saw Lei Weiyuan close his eyes as he nodded agreeably. It was the first time he had ever seen the person nod so passionately and honestly.

"Most of the time you display as much emotion as a deadpan statue, but now you’re just oozing with it. Couldn’t you choose another thing to agree with? Did it have to be this one?" Yang Qing angrily thought as he did his best to mask his anger.

When it came to Gong Jie and the rest, Yang Qing’s statement only made them more confused. Being a coward wasn’t exactly someone openly shared, even if it was evident to others, they would not confess as Yang Qing had done.

Xiao Gun and Yao Chang shared a look as they smiled helplessly. They were probably the biggest cowards in the room, but they would not be as direct as Yang Qing was. At most, they would color it up by trying to use scenarios to justify it.

Like I ran from them only because of their backing, not because I was afraid of them. Cultivators be it those from the rogue society, or those from established organizations, they all needed face to operate.

They all couldn’t help but look at Yang Qing weirdly.

Yang Qing missed the weird looks they were giving him as he was too preoccupied with trying to quell the anger in his heart while simultaneously trying to ignore how devoted Lei Weiyuan was to nodding his head.

Choosing the path of blissful ignorance for the sake of peace, Yang Qing decided to erase Lei Weiyuan’s antics from his perception and continued with his statement. Luckily, not even two seconds had passed during that discovery and monologue.

"While I may be a coward who is deathly afraid of dangerous situations, I have a wanderlust in me. I’ve always been drawn to the mysterious, the strange, the ancient, the unsolved question, the unfinished puzzles, and all the secrets and the unknown this world has to offer..."

Yang Qing’s excitement was clear for all to see before it deflated.

"But sadly because of my nature, those mysteries that I wonder about, many of them will forever remain to be just that, a mystery, up until I gain the strength to actually confront this fear of mine.

But in the meantime, I did find another way to manage the itch, and that is through reading and researching countless tomes, scrolls, jade slips, and studying all manner of things as long as I am able to.

It is not the same as venturing out there, but even written experiences in whatever format they come in, do help give an entry into the doors of the mysterious. We get to experience things vicariously through the literature we read, the cultivation arts we study, and the treasures we appraise, they all get to show us just a tiny little bit of what is out there, and if you’re lucky, some may even show you the real thing.

The reason I mention this is, is this.." Yang Qing said pausing as he leaned slightly forward.

"In my relentless study I have come across interesting things, and one of those interesting things is a peculiar spirit beast known by many names, but the most famous names are the ’cyrptkeeper caterpillar or catacomb caterpillar of abyss and paradise.

With names like that, you can understand why I would be curious about such a spirit beast," Yang Qing said as he lightly chuckled.

Xiao Gun, Yao Chang, and Gong Jie who had been absorbed into Yang Qing’s rhythm all found themselves nodding subconsciously as they looked eagerly at Yang Qing to divulge more.

"Its name was not given in vain. From what I read, it was described to be as massive a mountain that spanned countless kilometers, about the size of a small city. And just like its name, outside it adopted the form of a caterpillar, while its inside was filled with catacombs.

Within those catacombs lay either opportunity or doom.." Yang Qing ominously said.
