Chapter 38 - Difference of magic

—--------------------------------------------------------

Chapter: Difference of Mage and Asahi

The golden contract had faded, yet the weight of curiosity still hung in the air. A new balance had been struck—Asahi had secured his secrecy in exchange for knowledge, and now it was time to uphold his agreement.

He leaned back in his chair, exhaling lightly. "Now that the deal is formed... what do you want to ask?"

Alice, who had been watching him intently, wasted no time.

"Your Dimensional Magic—pleasee explain it to me."

Her emerald eyes gleamed with fascination, the unmistakable thirst for knowledge burning behind them.

Lucretia chuckled, resting her chin on her palm. "You sure didn't hesitate at all. How very unlike you."

Alice barely spared her a glance. "This is important," she said smoothly, keeping her gaze fixed on Asahi. "I want to know the principle behind of your magic."

Asahi had no idea what principles she was discussing, but explaining them outright was easier than arguing semantics.

"Alright," he said, stretching his right hand into the air. "I will show it to you first before I explain."

A small magic circle flickered into existence, glowing faintly before a violet void about the size of a basketball swirled open before them.

[Dimensional Magic: Storage]

Alice and Lucretia immediately tensed their magical senses, instinctively recognizing the unnatural nature of what had just appeared.

"W-What is this?!" Alice's voice wavered slightly, caught between awe and disbelief.

Asahi, completely unfazed, casually gestured toward the swirling distortion. "This magic is called [Storage]. As the name implies, this is magic I created from Dimensional Magic—a storage where I put my things." While pulling some things like water, bread, and clothes to show his things inside.

Alice's expression sharpened. She leaned in, analyzing the void carefully. "A personal vault... But isn't this similar to the Extension Charm?"

"Space extension spell?"

Asahi was curious for the first time about hearing this kind of magic.

Alice nodded, slipping into scholar mode as she explained.

"Yes, it's a spell that expands the internal dimensions of an object without affecting its external shape. It enhances capacity, making it much larger on the inside while also rendering its contents lighter."

"So, it is similar to Harry Potter.'

"Harry Potter?"

"its nothing.."

She glanced at Asahi. "Anyway, only a few high-ranking magicians are capable of casting this spell due to its complexity and amplitude, especially the ingredients needed to create a magic bag, which is why magic bags are rare in this world."

Hearing that, 'Ohh" Asahi perked up.

"Wait, if magic bags are so rare... then how much do they cost?"

Princess Alice answered without hesitation, "The price for a high-quality magic bag depends on the difficulty and rarity of the ingredients used. It is usually at least around twenty million USD."

"That much?!" Asahi nearly choked on his saliva. His eyes went wide as an absolutely ridiculous thought crossed his mind.

'If I just made a bunch of storage rings and sold them... wouldn't I become insanely rich?!'

Lucretia chuckled at his expression. "Fufu~ Are you perhaps thinking of going into business?" She knew he could easily create some items, so making a magic bag with his Dimensional Magic was effortless.

Asahi shrugged and replied, "Maybe or maybe not, hehe."

Alice, oblivious to his capitalist ambitions, continued explaining.

"However, some witches and mages bypass this issue entirely by using Summoning Magic instead. It's easier and more practical."

She raised her hand to demonstrate, and a magic circle appeared, glowing briefly before a crystal ball materialized in her palm.

While Alice was focused on explaining magical storage methods to Asahi, Lucretia watched silently.

Her usual amusement had faded, replaced by something far more serious.

As in, she was in research mode.

Her violet eyes narrowed as she analyzed the violet hole before her, observing every flicker of spatial distortion.

Then suddenly—

Her expression changed.

Her eyes widened, and she leaned back slightly as if coming to a realization.

"...No way," she murmured under her breath, not believing what she was thinking.

She turned to Asahi. "Asahi, do you mind if I ask you something?"

"Sure, what is it?"

Lucretia's gaze sharpened, and she asked.

"When you cast this magic... did you just visualize it?"

Asahi blinked at the sudden question. "Yeah. What's wrong?"

Lucretia's lips curled into a slow, excited smile when he confirmed it.

Alice noticed immediately. "Ms. Lucretia?" she asked, frowning. "What's wrong? Did you noticed something?"

Lucretia turned to her with an excited look of realization.

"My, my... how fascinating. As expected of Age of god magic."

Alice narrowed her eyes. "Would you care to explain, Ms. Lucretia?"

Lucretia nodded and began to ask some pop quiz

"Princess, what do you think is required for casting a magic?"

Princess Alice looked confused. She didn't know why Lucretia had begun to ask some questions.

She just answered, "Magic requires mana to create a phenomenon. To cast a spell, a magic formula and an incantation, usually in the form of a poem, which is praying and ritual, are required.

Lucretia nodded approvingly. "That's correct, Princess. Magic is a product of incantation, ritual, and will. However, you forgot something important."

Princess Alice frowned. "What do you mean?"

Lucretia smiled. "Some spells do not require incantations or rituals if the caster has perfected their calculations."

Alice stiffened. "Calculation?"

Lucretia leaned forward.

"Yes. As high-ranking witches in the supernatural world, we can cast some spells we don't need chant except some. Most high-tier magic requires precise mana control, structured magical formulas, and exact equations to function properly. That is the foundation of all magecraft." Lucretia demonstrated a small magic circle in her hand, and a medium water ball appeared, flying around her.

She then looks at Asahi with an excited expression

"However, he doesn't do that."

Alice stiffened.

She turned to Asahi, studying him more carefully this time.

Then... the realization hit her.

"...Wait," Alice whispered. "You mean to say that when Asahi casts magic... he's not calculating anything?"

Lucretia nodded. "That's right."

What is the difference between Mage/witch and Asahi?

To Mages/witches, casting a spell requires knowledge of magical arithmetic, spell formulas, and a chant. They thought magic was something where the user uses the knowledge and calculations to know, for instance: "If I do this, this will happen."

To Asahi?

His magic didn't require calculations. His magic relied on imagination—the power to create, manipulate, and manifest his will without formulas or constraints.

You can say it was similar to the way they were using it.

But He wasn't just casting magic but bypassing the system entirely.

Even some mages have the same affinity as him. They require a magic formula to do what Asahi does

Hence, he was on a shortcut; in other words, he was cheating.

As long he has imagination, he can make different kinds of magic based on the magic he has.

....

Silence~~*STAREEE~*

Alice stared at him.

Lucretia smiled at him.

"That's it," she murmured, a note of awe. "That's the fundamental difference between mages and his which making sense of age of god magic."

Updat𝓮d from freewēbnoveℓ.com.

Lucretia nodded, completely convinced.

"Yes. It's worth calling it that. It doesn't operate under modern magecraft at all it follows concepts rather than calculations. His magic is more akin to the magic of the past than human sorcery."

"Now, Asahi, about the next one... could you—"

As both witches realized this, their excitement grew.

They eagerly pressed him for more details about his magic—the spells he had created and his techniques—and even offered their own suggestions to enhance his magic.

The conversation stretched on for hours.

Of course, not all of them intended Asahi to share everything he knew.

...

After an eternity discussing magic, Asahi abruptly stood up and escaped.

He quickly realized it was already evening.

When he reached his room, he collapsed onto his bed, exhaling deeply.

"...I survived."

Lying there, he stared at the ceiling, his mind still spinning from their relentless questioning.

He had expected curiosity—that was only natural.

But he hadn't expected the way of their magic is really complicated.

[A/n: Same~]

"...I need to be careful next t..."

Before he could finish the thought, mental exhaustion overtook him.

Amaterasu came out of him and put some blankets on him properly.

After Asahi left for his room, a quiet stillness settled in the living room. The faint hum of lingering magic pulsed in the air, remnants of Lucretia's earlier spells still circulating the estate.

A faint breeze drifted through the curtains, bringing with it the crisp scent of the evening.

Lucretia, lounging gracefully in her chair, swirled the tea in her cup before glancing at Alice.

"How is your body, Princess?" she asked smoothly.

Alice flexed her fingers, rolling her shoulders before exhaling. "Stable, for now. Thanks for Lord Asahi, " she said in a sincere tone as she felt a light.

Its been a long time since she felt this feeling.

Lucretia smirked, tilting her head slightly. "Fortunate, isn't it? To have such a capable young lord personally tending to your well-being."

Alice arched an elegant brow. "Indeed madam...I'd rather not rely on him too often. You're aware of my constitution, Madam Lucretia. This effect is temporary, and I will inevitably my body will weaken again. So may i request to look after me when that time comes?"

Lucretia laughed softly. "Of course, I don't mind adding more to look one after.."

With a flick of her wrist, a fresh wave of mana surged through the estate.

A faint whoosh echoed through the halls as dust swept away and furniture subtly adjusted. In the distance, the muffled clinks and rumbles of the estate's automated cleaning system carried on, ensuring Alice's chambers were adequately arranged.

"Thank you very much." Alice felt grateful for Lucretia.

"Your room will be ready shortly," Lucretia mused. But while we wait... shall we discuss your thoughts about him?" She quickly asked.

Alice knew who Lucretia was talking to, and she exhaled, her emerald eyes flickering with quiet thought. "I was wondering when you'd bring him up."

Lucretia set her teacup down, resting her chin on her palm. "You tell me, Princess... what is your impression of him?"

Alice leaned back in her chair, crossing her arms. "You want my honest opinion?"

Lucretia smirked. Yes."

Alice closed her eyes momentarily before speaking.

"He is... difficult to define."

Lucretia's interest sharpened. "Oh?"

Alice sighed, recalling their interactions. "At first, I assumed he was simply a child prodigy. Alice admitted. "A rare genius, gifted beyond his years. But the more I observe him, the more I realize..."

"He does not act like a child."

While talking to him, Alice tries to understand.

Asahi spoke of them as he knew them.

Lucretia's violet eyes gleamed with intrigue. "Go on."

Alice's expression darkened slightly. "He is polite child despite cheerful one at that and he was thoughtful, yet evasive. He never seeks recognition, nor does he seem particularly interested in the affairs of others... and yet, he is aware."

Lucretia's smirk widened. "Ah, so you've noticed it as well."

Alice narrowed her eyes. "You knew?"

Lucretia tapped a single finger against the table. "I had my suspicions. But seeing your reaction only confirms them."

Alice frowned. "He's too composed for his age. The way he speaks, the way he analyzes people before responding—it's calculated. Almost as if..."

She hesitated momentarily before voicing the thought that had nagged her since she met him.

"...as if he has already learned to be cautious."

Lucretia's smirk softened slightly. "Yes. And children do not learn caution without reason."

Alice's lips pressed into a thin line.

Something tragic happened to him in the past, causing him to mature fast.

But at the same time, despite that quiet wariness, despite his subtle understanding of social situations...

There was still a part of him that was undeniably innocent.

Alice tapped her fingers against the armrest, deep in thought. "He is a paradox. He is sharp, observant, and deliberate in his words. And yet... he is still just a boy."

Lucretia nodded. "Indeed. Even with his intelligence, he lacks something crucial—common sense regarding the supernatural.

Alice exhaled, shaking her head. "For all his wariness, he is still naïve.

Not in how a typical child is, but in how someone is inexperienced in deception. "

He really didn't hide his goal during his deal.

Surprisingly, despite being able to kill a god last year, he does not have much knowledge of the supernatural, which he seems to hide or stay hidden elsewhere. "

Maybe that's the reason he was not found.

He is well aware of the dangers that power organizations can pose.

That is why.

"He doesn't seek power or hunger for control or have ambitions like other mages or other [King]."

Lucretia smirked, amusement dancing in her eyes. "If anything, he actively avoids it, doesn't he?"

Alice nodded. "Yes. Im pretty sure he dont want to borther his life and I don't think he is interested in magic despite he want us to teach him maybe beyond of that he is just curious to know what kinda magic we using due he has already his powerful magic"

Lucretia's gaze turned thoughtful. "And ironically, that very indifference is what makes him impossible to ignore."

Alice tensed slightly, and her fingers curled slightly. "That is the problem."

Thought Asahi wasn't just powerful—he was uninterested. And in the supernatural world, power without ambition was far more dangerous than power with purpose.

Someone may try to exploit him, especially those greedy for power.

Even though he is just a child with power, he is still Campione. After all, they didn't know what he would do if someone angered him.

Alice remembered his fight during his battle against the two divine beings.

In the worst-case scenario, he will destroy that person along with the rest of those connected to him, which will involve the innocent.

Alice exhaled sharply. "Then, as we accepted his deal, we shall support him."

Lucretia's smirk returned, this time with a note of satisfaction. "Naturally."

Alice nodded. "I will ensure his identity will be not expose as possible for no organization takes advantage of him. No factions, no ambitious nobles—for time being."

'Then, how about Black Prince Alec?" Lucretia suddenly mentions him as he also knows Asahi's identity.

Alice took a measured sip of her tea before responding. "As Lord Asahi himself said, He will take this matter for now. There is no need for our unnecessary action yet."

Lucretia chuckled. "Oh? You're putting faith in his judgment?"

Alice's emerald eyes flickered with quiet amusement. "I believe in him."

'And thought there was also something I would like to know. ' What Asahi said about him was mysterious.

Why is Asahi calling him brother?

Is it cause there are Campione?

Alice knows something beyond that

Lucretia lifted her teacup again, amusement flickering in her gaze. "Good. Because while Asahi may be strong..."

She lowered the cup, her voice quieter.

"Even the [King] need someone to watch their back...."

Alice didn't argue.

She nodded as she agreed with Lucretia and began to be curious about her.

"Madam, May I know? Why are you helping him. "

Lucretia was silent for a beat, then smiled—an expression almost wistful yet veiled in mystery. "He reminds me of someone I once knew." Her voice held a softness rarely heard, a fleeting vulnerability hidden beneath her usual poise.

Alice frowned, leaning forward slightly. "Someone important?" Her gaze was sharp, scrutinizing Lucretia's expression for any hint of truth.

Lucretia merely sipped her tea, her smile deepening as if recalling a long-buried memory. The amusement in her eyes didn't quite mask the faint flicker of something deeper—nostalgia or perhaps sorrow.

Because now she understood.

Asahi wasn't just a gifted child.

He was a boy who had learned—far too early—what survival meant.

And despite his awareness, intelligence, and wariness...

He was still a bit naive.

Still, a child who wanted a quiet life.

And yet, despite everything...

He trusted them.

To tell his objective.

Not just as allies. Not as fellow supernatural beings.

But as people, he could truly rely on them.

Alice closed her eyes briefly, letting that realization settle.

That kind of trust...from a [king] was something rare.

Something precious.

And if no one else would protect him, support him, and shield him from those who sought to use him—

Then they would.

While they were talking, little didn't know a little person hiding somewhere was listening to their conversation and left quietly.
