Damned Healer-Chapter 524: Sworn Enemies
Up in the skies, Vanh, who had seen everything happen, had a heavy expression. Everything happened way too fast: in just one minute, those two threatened to attack and were completely defeated. Then, he saw their souls being tortured by an absurdly terrifying power.
Now that he was an immortal, Vanh managed to feel something hidden in those dark runes when they were acting. He understood that this power wasn't a blessing or something created by Darian.
"This… is something coming from a being above an immortal..." he muttered, completely stunned. But thinking about everything he had already seen from Darian, all the pieces fell perfectly into place.
Legends about a Missionary existed in only a few universes, where Rank S missions happened. They were just ridiculous, telling similar stories about a missionary being someone blessed by the heavens, born to surpass everyone in the world quickly. Now… he understood how something like that could be possible.
Darian landed in the arena again with a completely indifferent expression, as if he had just shooed away some annoying flies.
Everyone watched him without blinking; then they sighed… they knew this wasn't even the first time he'd killed immortals. But this time, everything had been recorded from countless angles.
"Finish this execution already..." he said while staring at Camille, as if tired of the interruptions.
She nodded and turned to the others. When the two immortals appeared and activated their powers, those executors weren't able to circulate their power properly and complete the technique.
Now, they focused again, activating everything to end the prisoner.
Mallory started trembling. Lucy and Lucius kept their eyes on Vanh, but… he didn't show any sign that he would attack. His eyes were focused on his mother, and his expression was completely twisted.
Darian sighed; now, he could finally say he had avenged his parents.
From the things Lucy got out of Mallory's memories, the family leader had no influence at all in Darius' death; everything was planned and carried out by her. He only found out when he returned to Earth, and Darius was already dead. Of course, he couldn't have been happier, since he would become the family leader.
Seconds passed. Mallory only trembled while staring at the skies.
When the two-minute countdown ended, her eyes slowly closed…
It was like she had simply fainted.
She fell slowly to the ground, and in the next moment, everyone could feel a pure life energy flowing out of her body.
In mere seconds, her life was completely consumed, and her mortal soul disconnected from the body, but didn't leave it.
No one moved, feeling the Yin of death flow through the air. Then, her soul disappeared as if it had entered the void, taken away by the laws of the world.
It was over.
Camille had tears in her eyes. Realizing that, she took a deep breath and quickly wiped them away, letting it go.
Her granddaughter, someone she didn't get the chance to know earlier… had become a terrible monster. And destiny was even crueler, forcing her to help kill her with her own hands.
The black cage dissolved. At the same time, a figure slowly descended from the skies into the center of the arena.
Everyone watched Vanh land, without any golden energy or intent to attack. His inner fluctuations were chaotic; his eyes were filled with extreme sadness.
He knew.
He understood she deserved this.
But… he couldn't avoid feeling like the worst son in the world.
His knees touched the ground; then his hands slowly held that empty body.
No one felt truly happy about any of this. Her death didn't bring anything back, nor healed any open wounds. But Darian needed to do this. If Mallory stayed alive, she would keep causing trouble elsewhere, and even more people would be harmed by her.
Vanh stood up slowly, holding that body in his arms.
His gaze turned to Darian, and a different light appeared in those eyes.
"Sir Darian..." he murmured, stopping midway and taking a deep breath.
"I know you were right. I admire you for helping me before, and I know you helped many people wherever you went… but still… the hatred in my chest doesn't feel like it'll go away."
Darian sighed. "I understand, she was your mother. Despite everything, she loved you, and you loved her too. The connection between you two is much deeper than you imagine..."
He remembered his own mother, who, even after reincarnating as Alear, still felt, instinctively, a closeness and connection to Darian and the twins. The love between them wasn't something death or a new beginning could erase. With Vanh, it wasn't any different.
"That's why..." Vanh continued, his voice choked, "I'm going back to take over the family leadership. After that... if I don't try to get revenge... I feel like I'll break inside and won't be able to live."
Darian replied calmly, "Maybe time will heal it, maybe not. Anyway... if your desire for revenge is stronger than your reason, then there's no solution."
Vanh stared straight into his eyes; Darian clearly felt he was fighting the urge to attack with everything he had.
"I can't guarantee that I'll be able to free myself from this. So, I'm giving you this warning. I'll possibly try to kill you with everything I have. Consider that we're sworn enemies now. Next time we meet, you'll probably have to kill me or die."
His voice sounded completely serious. Without waiting for an answer, he leaped upward, holding that body in his arms.
Almost immediately, his presence vanished completely.
"..."
The whole arena was still silent. Darian snorted, turning toward Lucy and Lucius.
They understood, so both moved with Darian toward Camille, subtly supporting her.
"We're here, and we'll live by your side until the end." Lucius murmured gently, comforting her.
She turned to the three of them, seeing the extreme worry in their eyes. She took a deep breath and gave a small smile. "I'll be fine... it was better that everything ended quickly."
Everyone felt the pain in her words. But they knew she would be fine; they would make sure of it.
---
The arena was emptied while Darian returned home with the three of them.
As he stepped into the clan building, he heard some feminine laughter.
In the next second, he saw Niara approaching quickly, holding little Alear in her arms. The two seemed deeply connected and having fun, completely unaware of everything happening outside.
Niara had her wings back, and her legs were covered in scales. Right now, she had absolute control of her Bloodline and could stay without any scales at all, and even remove her wings, looking completely human.
By choice, she usually kept none of them. But now, she had clearly adjusted herself to have the same traits as little Alear.
Alear, in her arms, looked excited, as if the two had been running and playing. When Niara stopped, and Alear saw Darian and the twins, she gave them a huge smile.
She had practically just been born, but her draconic Bloodline, combined with her reconstruction with primordial power, made her develop incredibly fast. She already looked like a human baby over a year old, and very soon, she'd already be walking.
"Papa Dan!"
She could even speak a little. Her cute words sounded out, and her little arms stretched toward Darian, as if wanting to jump and fly into his arms.
He and everyone else felt a refreshing wave pass through their minds. Smiles formed on their lips, and the gloomy aura they carried after that event completely dispersed. 𝓯𝓻𝓮𝙚𝙬𝓮𝙗𝒏𝙤𝒗𝙚𝙡.𝒄𝒐𝓶
Darian held her in his arms while Lucy complained jokingly about her favoritism. Camille was also infected by the moment, feeling that, in the end, everything had been worth it.
