Damned Healer-Chapter 530: Sanctuary Of The Golem God
"Good thing you know me." Darian spoke with an expressionless face, "We're all pretty busy people. Do you want me to do it, or are you gonna kill yourselves?"
The five Spiritual Guardians were pale. There wasn't a single person who came to this place who didn't know Darian. Their superiors had already warned them that they should flee the moment they saw Darian, because they stood no chance whatsoever.
"Don't play dumb. The number of people you killed unjustly is hard to even calculate. Why are you so reluctant now that it's your turn?" Darian asked with disdain.
Darian saw their dense karma as clearly as daylight. It was ironic. Even though they had massacred countless people, it was always someone else's life. Watching others suffer, they delighted in the despair of others. But when death came for them, their reaction was always the same: panic, terror, and reluctance.
With Darian's powerful killing intent locking them down, they instinctively felt there wasn't even the slightest hope of escaping. But even knowing they were going to die, they still had a deep desire to live. Even living for one more instant felt wonderful.
"What a joke..." Darian's expression was icy.
The Golem man and woman in the distance were shocked. Even though Darian's gaze and killing intent weren't aimed at them, they felt like ants in front of a god of death.
Fortunately for those five, Darian didn't like wasting time and didn't take any pleasure in other people's fear or despair. He just snorted, holding a dagger, then casually slashed.
"No–!"
The slash came with a cold breeze that covered their bodies, freezing them. In the next second, the five exploded into a bloody mist.
After killing the five, Darian stayed completely impassive.
The Golem man and woman were pale, looking at Darian as if he were a cold, sinister demon. Those five Spiritual Guardians didn't even have the ability to resist against him.
Darian walked slowly toward the two.
The man was afraid, but gritting his teeth, he stepped in front of the girl. He stared at Darian coldly. His intention was obvious: even if he had to die, he'd die protecting his companion.
These natives saw invaders the same way humans on Earth imagined demons. He never thought Darian would let them go. In fact, he felt Darian was even more sinister than the five before.
"Are you injured?" Darian stopped in front of him and asked with a calm expression.
Looking at that young man, Darian remembered himself, fighting with his life to give his younger brother and sister a chance to live. Back then, he was also so young, so immature.
Several years had passed. He'd always tried to keep his original essence. But life had made him colder and more emotionless in the face of all the malice he saw everywhere. It was the natural way his mind protected itself when he was out in the world. Darian could only relax a little when he was home, but even then, he lived full of thoughts, constantly worried and reflecting on many things.
Time passed. He was a little over thirty, but had lived far more than he should have. His appearance might be young, but his heart was tired. He didn't have the same enthusiasm for youth anymore. Maybe that was the price of maturing.
The young Golem looked at Darian, stunned, feeling no malice coming from him at all.
It was the woman who opened her mouth and spoke with a trembling voice. "You... you're not going to kill us?"
"I have no reason to kill you." Darian shook his head.
"I don't believe you. You're definitely plotting something!" the man said.
"Fine, I can give you proof. Then you'll believe me," Darian said helplessly.
"Proof?" They were surprised.
Darian raised the dagger in an attacking stance. "When I kill you, you'll believe I'm not planning anything."
"No!" both shouted hurriedly, releasing the maximum power of their bodies in defense.
Darian watched that, confirming that the curse on them had vanished and they were completely healthy. Even the woman's face had already been fully healed by herself.
"It's just a joke, no need to make such a fuss. Alright, I've already wasted enough time. I'm leaving." He spoke with a light smile and turned to walk away.
"Excuse me... older brother, wait a moment, please!" the man said after a brief hesitation.
"Do you need something?" Darian looked back.
That young man hesitated again, but then gritted his teeth and said, "I'd like to ask you for some help."
"Help? Are you stupid? We're enemies." Darian was speechless. He was either crazy or way too brave… maybe both. The fact that he hadn't killed them was already luck enough. But now he actually wanted help.
The Golem took a deep breath, wearing a strange expression. "Big brother, you're really handsome, an incomparable hero, a–"
"Cut the bullshit."
"Ahem, let me explain," the Golem woman quickly said, "We came searching for a treasure called Star-Lotus. We'd like to ask if older brother could help us. If you could, we'd be eternally grateful."
"Star-Lotus? Someone of your race had their mind shredded?", Darian asked.
"How... how did you know?" The two were surprised.
Darian knew that lotus-type treasures were all connected to mental power because of that book. There was even a race in the pristine nature that were Lotuses; they were the most powerful essence of mental power.
From their shocked expressions, he knew his guess was right.
"Yes, you're right. One of our race failed to break through to the ninth Celestial realm, which resulted in a deep wound in her mental sea. Every day, she suffers immense pain. I beg older brother to help us." The woman didn't seem to think much before talking, and, before the man could stop her, she ended up spilling everything at once.
Darian nodded. "Alright, I can accompany you on a walk. I hope it doesn't take too long, because I still have things to do."
Their eyes lit up, as if they had just heard the most amazing news in the world. Immediately, they rushed forward, showing the way.
Darian followed them calmly, thinking about many things.
The term 'ninth Celestial realm', mentioned by the woman, was the power scale of this universe. This was Aurix's universe, and he had explained everything before.
In that universe, there was Qi, and all its inhabitants absorbed it into their bodies to become more powerful. The level of absorption was called the Celestial realms, and there were nine of them. In the ninth, their power could rival a Spiritual Guardian with eight rings... being really optimistic.
In other words, they were way weaker, but that only applied to the people of that universe. This planet where they were was special.
This place was called the Sanctuary of the Golem God. Simple beasts lived there, lacking great intelligence or power, but it was also where the Golems were born and lived.
These Golems, besides being born blessed by Heaven's Will, had a strange technique that made them very powerful. In the ninth Celestial realm, they were actually as strong as Spiritual Guardians with nine rings.
Of course, the Spiritual Guardians had strange blessings that often made them impossible to deal with. Besides that, they had Artifacts from other universes and many other hidden cards. Because of that, they had an extreme advantage and were, in truth, the hunters, while these Golems were the prey.
Darian casually murmured, "How long until the temple opens?"
The two Golems stopped and turned to him seriously. The woman answered after taking a deep breath, "Exactly seven days left..."
Darian nodded without asking anything else.
The place where the book Darian needed was located sat at the center of that planet, where a massive temple was sealed by the laws of the world.
That temple opened every 300 years in that universe's time, which was the equivalent of 100 years in Earth's universe. But before that happened, the planet's protection grew thinner, allowing the Spiritual Guardians to enter using their ring power.
When that temple opened, something extreme happened.
The heavens and the laws of the world poured their power over the vast area inside. That was a *Heavenly Tribulation*.
That power had very little destructive potential, being pure life energy that nurtured all the soil of the temple. And after everything ended, countless Golems were born inside the temple and managed to leave into the world.
The whole planet was like a sanctuary for the Golems. They were mass-created every 300 years and lived isolated from the universe the whole time, under the protection of the 'Golem God'.
Darian's mind went back to the past, when they were in that meeting with Caliris and Aurix.
Aurix explained that the moment the temple opened was also a huge opportunity for the Spiritual Guardians, because that tribulation was very beneficial and easy to use to nurture their bodies.
By absorbing a lot, it drastically increased the chances of anyone trying to become an immortal surviving the Heavenly Punishment, besides preparing their bodies to maintain an immortal soul afterward.
In the past, Aurix made an agreement with all the Spiritual Sovereigns of the universe, including Painita. When the planet and the temple were close to opening, he sent people selected by them who had real chances of becoming immortals so they could benefit from the place.
Aurix also sent people of his own race. But that seemed really stupid, no matter how Darian looked at it.
He explained with a serious expression. He only accepted helping his adversaries because one of the rules his race received from Heaven's Will was to do everything possible to help the universe they lived in to prosper.
Making the Spiritual Guardians stronger would make them complete more missions, and thus prosper. Even if that could harm him in the future, he was doing something for the greater good.
Darian could only snort indifferently. Knowing the past of that race, he couldn't judge the rigid, inflexible rules they received.
Aurix continued to explain. After the planet became open for entry, there was no way to know the exact day the temple would open. It could take a few days or months; only the Golems knew precisely.
Because of that, he had to send the people as soon as the planet's protection became thin. They had to wait inside so that when the day arrived, they would be ready.
But unfortunately, in those few days of waiting, the malicious Spiritual Guardians acted like scoundrels and hunted the Golems.
The same power of the tribulation that gave them life inside the temple also created a heart of the earth inside them, which was an incredible treasure. Obviously, the Golems had to die for that to be removed from them.
Aurix found out and tried to force the other Spiritual Sovereigns to convince their people to stop doing that. But he only got empty promises. So, he decided to preserve those Golems and not allow outsiders to enter again...
But one day, that universe, with which he had become one, seemed to send him a message.
It wasn't direct words, but rather a strange intuition that took him years to interpret.
*The Golems need to fight for their own lives, so they'll always be prepared for when the day comes. They weren't created to live isolated on this planet for nothing, and a bit of pressure will help them. This place was created by the Golem God for something much greater, waiting for something that would happen one day.*
Aurix told everything to Darian, and only Darian would truly understand, because he knew the real Golem God had died a very, very long time ago. Heaven's Will, on its journey in the past, took up his mantle and promised to take care of the Golems in his place.
So the entire place was created in preparation for something, and since there was a book inside the temple, it was definitely something related to the missionaries.
Darian had failed the missions to get the books his master told him to collect. Now, the pieces moved, and he had the chance to go to a universe that had one of those books. He couldn't be more excited.
At the end of the explanation, Aurix told Darian that the opening of that planet would happen in one month. Then he asked what Darian wanted to do.
His answer was immediate, "Inform all the Spiritual Sovereigns about it and send their people to the universe like you normally do. As for me, I'm going too."
Darian was sure. The Spiritual Sovereigns would send those with nine rings from their planets, but they would also send the people from the Wube family who had recently received the blessing of Heaven's Will.
Their goal was to turn as many as possible into immortals, and this event was perfect to increase their chances.
It was a huge opportunity for everyone. Even if they knew Aurix was allied with Darian, and that he would know about all of this... what could possibly go wrong?
