Chapter 554: Terrifying Rival

Even after being captured and surrounded, nobody on the flying ship showed any sign of panic.

Darian was standing at the top of the flying ship, and beside him were two stunning Dragonesses. He stared coldly at those dozens of powerful figures.

"Human brat. Since you dare to rob us, are you ready to die?" the leader of the place growled.

He released a great power, but also a very faint life force. He was possibly an old Supreme General of their race or something similar, but had abandoned the position because of age.

The others released a powerful aura and were already ready to react to any movement. They wouldn’t give Darian any chance to escape.

"Tch, what useless words. You don’t need to talk. If you want time to activate another inscription, just do it, don’t try to get my attention. If I wanted to leave, do you think you could catch me? You think I’m as stupid as you?" Darian mocked.

Darian clearly felt something in the ground moving and connecting, but it would take a few seconds.

The leader had shouted on purpose to draw attention, while the others positioned themselves in a specific formation around them. They really wanted to activate that thing, probably because they wanted to capture Darian and the others alive to discover the secrets of that flying ship.

"So you lured us here on purpose?" the old leader asked in a dark tone. Suddenly, he had a bad feeling.

"Not exactly," Darian said lightly.

At that moment, with the race identifying that they were on three different planets at the same time, the Supreme General and the large army would need to exchange information to understand where to go, losing a few precious seconds. Then they would still need to move to that Fortress planet, which would take a few minutes. Darian had more than enough time to destroy that place and run.

At that moment, Darian snorted, and his entire primordial physique activated. Along with him, his four cores and seven rings pulsed with power.

"!"

Those cultivators immediately widened their eyes.

Darian saw that and understood. The Spiritual Guardians were figures who elevated themselves without true knowledge of the world’s Laws, and without needing to prove themselves all the time like cultivators.

Compared to a cultivator, Spiritual Guardians were people blessed by the heavens, literally, gaining incredible power without much effort.

The moment Darian revealed his primordial physique, those cultivators who had lived long lives full of study and effort recognized a bit of that energy.

"Power of chaos... perfectly united with the seven natural elements... how is that possible?!" that old leader muttered in disbelief.

The power of chaos was something that existed or had existed in all universes. Normally, it was possible to find traces of it in higher-level universes, so cultivators knew of its existence. The seven elements were something very common, but at Darian’s level, that was shocking.

Niara snorted, activating the Divine Dragon Possession. In that instant, all the energies of the planet trembled as they were suppressed.

"P-Primordial Beast... this... you are related to him..."

Everyone felt their hearts spike in fear. Even though they weren’t ordinary beasts, who would be suppressed by the Diachronic power, it shook them deeply.

The old leader clenched his fists, trying to calm himself. "Focus! No matter where they came from! They can’t run anymore!"

The ground shook, and an intense red light spread in all directions. It was the final inscription, the strongest one of their race. Everyone saw it and nodded: no matter what they did, they couldn’t survive now.

But...

*BUZZ*

In that instant, space trembled. Darian widened his eyes in surprise and immediately focused upward.

That entire planet was sealed, but something from outside passed through easily.

High above, an immense pressure appeared, causing distortions in space. Darian sent mental messages to everyone on the ship right away. Something unexpected had appeared, and they needed to shift focus to escape at the first opportunity. He felt an immense mortal pressure.

However, he soon noticed that the Twilight Owls’ expressions had also changed. They thought the same thing, but the opposite: they believed that interference came from Darian.

The spatial distortion stabilized, and then a bestial silhouette could be seen, still blurry.

Darian and the Twilight Owl race immediately tensed up, preparing for a massive battle.

Niara’s eyes shifted, feeling something absurd inside her Bloodline.

In that instant, a massive black creature appeared in the skies. Its wings beat once, making the whole world vibrate. It was covered in black scales and greenish carapaces, sturdy and intimidating, ending in a sharp-contoured draconic head with piercing red eyes.

It looked a lot like a Western Dragon from Earth, but its two wings were also its arms, making it clear that it was just a Draconic Beast, known as a Wyvern. Something pretty common and normal across the universes.

Worse, it also released a faint Demonic Bloodline. It was a hybrid between a Wyvern and a demon, which should’ve weakened its power even more. But...

Its presence released a terrifying mortal pressure. Niara was certain it was just a Wyvern, yet even she felt her Primordial Dragon Bloodline being suppressed. How was that possible?

Darian, on the other hand, was completely sure: if he fought that thing, even going all out, his chances of winning weren’t high.

That Wyvern stopped in the sky and looked down with a cold, indifferent expression. It was as if everyone there were ants unworthy of its attention. But something caught its interest.

Then... its eyes landed on Darian, clearly shifting to surprise.

With a snort, a black light covered it completely, and then its form shifted as it activated its metamorphosis.

A man who looked like a mix of human and demon appeared. He was tall, with demonic red eyes.

In that moment, the old leader recognized that figure. He had only seen him using metamorphosis before, never his true form.

"The Twilight Owl race wishes to capture these criminals. Does Lord Runar have any instructions?" that old man asked, still fearful.

He didn’t even look at the man or at the Twilight Owls. His eyes were full of shock as he moved closer to Darian. He had to look him up and down before finally speaking:

"A missionary... but that physical technique is a combination of two others, the ones that came from those two. Who the hell are you?" His voice echoed dryly as he stared at Darian and the aura of his primordial physique.

Darian took a deep breath, surprised by those words. Someone powerful finding out he was a missionary was normal, but knowing about his physique... and even mentioning the owners of the techniques... that could only mean...

"My name is Darian. And you..." He remembered that book and took a guess: "By any chance, do you know my master’s mother? She had two pets really similar to you..."

The air froze instantly, and the space itself seemed to petrify. That figure’s expression changed completely.

The Twilight Owl leader almost burst into laughter inside. That human really had guts. He was saying that a terrifying figure had something to do with two pets of some random person? For beasts, being someone’s pet was an unprecedented humiliation.

But, opposite to what he expected, that lasted less than five seconds. Everything vanished, then the figure snorted.

"You know my parents? Then... I see... now it makes sense. Your level of power suits who you are."

Darian almost sighed in relief. Meru’s mother was also a beast tamer, and she had a very peculiar pair of Wyverns as pets. The male was a terrifying mutant Wyvern like Niara; the female was a Wyvern with a mixed demonic bloodline.

That figure, even being just a Wyvern, had such absurd potential that even a Primordial Dragon in person would feel suppressed.

"You’re too kind. I’m nothing compared to you; I’m just someone lucky. I had help from many people, and I’m just trying to survive while protecting my allies." Darian murmured softly.

Runar snorted, "As their son, my achievements are only natural. Giving advice or teaching someone doesn’t change anything. You relied on your own power to reach this level. I genuinely respect that. Besides..."

He turned to Niara, Alear, and the others on the ship, nodding.

"Pretending to be the pig to eat the tiger, huh?" he said with a dry smile. "You’re really interesting. I’m busy right now, so I’ll get going. If you’re here, that means you’ll be taking part in the Convention too. Great, now I’m excited. I want first place in that thing. So let’s compete."

He finished with a look clearly filled with the desire to fight and compete. Darian gulped. As if it wasn’t dangerous enough already, now he had gained a terrifying rival in the Convention.

At that moment, the Twilight Owls were stunned. That figure was absolutely terrifying and had arrived in that universe only a few years ago. Everyone already expected him to take first place in the Convention. But he was actually an old acquaintance of that human?

Runar jumped upward and then turned toward the Twilight Owls.

"For being kind to me before, and giving me everything I wanted without fighting, I’ll warn you just this once. This guy isn’t someone you can afford to provoke."

Even though he looked violent and malicious in both aura and gaze, he really said that to spare their lives. He tried to give them a chance.

The old Twilight Owl leader almost spat blood. That figure had practically stolen everything he wanted from their race when he attacked the imperial castle. The race was only barely spared because the emperor acted fast, bowed, gave him everything he wanted, and prevented mass deaths.

And now, shortly after that, another thief showed up. That’s why all the Twilight Owls were so furious: the best they had was stolen by Runar, and everything else was being taken by Darian.

In the blink of an eye, that figure vanished into the horizon. He entered and exited the high-level defensive inscription as easily as breathing.

"Humph, who cares about his origin?! Capture him first! We can decide what to do after he’s locked up!" the old leader roared, ordering a full assault.

When their leader shouted and waved his hand, all the Twilight Owls immediately attacked the flying ship.
