Damned Healer-Chapter 620: Sole Inheritor
Darian killed Giltei without the slightest effort. People were shocked not only by the act of killing, but by how easily he did it, as if he had slaughtered nothing more than a chicken. They had barely had time to process the absurd scene of Darian destroying those ten thousand scarlet flying swords.
Although Giltei was the genius of the Scarlet Cloud Clan, he was neither the strongest nor the most important person in the clan; he was simply the most talented of his generation. There were still geniuses from older generations, and from generations before those.
Even so, he offered not the slightest resistance against Darian, whom everyone was certain belonged to the same generation as him. Even his most powerful attack was effortlessly crushed by Darian’s bare hand, clearly revealing the massive gap in power between the two.
And after such an overwhelming victory, Darian was still not satisfied and challenged Caoming, the grandson of the master of the Scarlet Cloud Clan.
The latter was someone of illustrious status and unfathomable power. He was already considered the next clan master, and his grandfather was about to retire and hand the position over to him.
"Heavens, who is he?!"
Only then did people realize that this strange human with green hair could only have a shocking background. In fact, everyone was sure he had come to the city to cause trouble and show off his strength.
The royal family of the Primordial Empire trained all of their descendants internally and rarely revealed them to the world. Throughout history, there had been many cases of absurd, completely nameless figures suddenly appearing from that place.
Some of the more powerful individuals, who knew certain secrets, began to ponder.
The Heaven-Devouring Sparrow Clan, which had been the greatest power in the universe, had been destroyed not long ago. Secretly, part of its treasures had been distributed among the city’s clans and the Empire.
Naturally, that Empire now wanted to assert itself as number one. The best way to put the city’s four clans in their place was to send terrifying individuals to the city and crush the current generation’s geniuses. It was an easy tactic to understand.
"I hope Caoming accepts the challenge! Now that would really make these tickets worth it!" A shout of excitement echoed and spread throughout the stands.
They had already gotten their money’s worth by watching two battles that day. If Caoming accepted, according to the rules, the fight could continue, and the spectators wouldn’t need to buy another ticket.
Darian waved his hand, causing his tablet to fly up into the air.
All eyes focused on Caoming.
At that moment, Saelil’s expression changed completely, and she hurriedly said to Niara, "You need to stop him! Caoming carries the blood of the Ancestral Scarlet Wolf. His Divine Blood Transformation Technique has already reached—"
Niara waved her hand to calm her down. "We already know that. Instead of worrying about him, you should worry about that Caoming guy."
"What?"
Saelil and the others were incredulous at what they had just heard. In the past, although Saelil’s intuition told her that Darian and Niara were strong, she had assumed they were only a bit stronger than herself.
She had invited them in hopes of forming a mutually beneficial relationship. Having spent her entire life on that island without venturing beyond it, she was eager to learn about the outside world from the two of them.
Finding friends at the same level of power was rare, since everyone like that in the city belonged to other clans and was therefore an enemy.
However, she had been mistaken.
Darian was not just a little stronger than her; he had killed Giltei effortlessly, with a simple gesture. And now he was preparing to challenge Caoming, someone Niara believed he could defeat. How could they have such confidence in themselves?
At that moment, Caoming’s voice rang out: "As you wish."
His voice was like grinding iron, hoarse yet resonant, enough to send chills down an unprepared spine. He waved his hand, releasing a golden light that rose into the air.
"My God, that tablet has ten marks!" The more attentive immediately recognized the ten golden marks on it.
Earlier, Ramel and the others had shown their own golden tablets, each with only a single golden mark. Caoming, however, displayed an astonishing ten marks.
"As expected of the future leader of the Scarlet Cloud Clan! Just his tablet alone is enough to terrify people!"
"That foreign human is doomed."
As people discussed among themselves, the two tablets met, causing the void to vibrate. But...
Contrary to expectations, two beams of light burst out, enveloping Darian and Caoming.
"What’s happening?" Ailik asked.
Everyone assumed Caoming would be taken to the martial stage so the battle could begin.
Saelil explained: "The level difference between their tablets is too great, so the inscription that governs the city’s rules is evaluating their power. If the disparity is too large, it’s even possible that the fight won’t be allowed."
Niara snorted. She didn’t even need to think to know that the last part was just a rumor, created to discourage the powerful from fighting the very weak. If that were true, Darian would never have been allowed to fight Giltei.
"What exactly is this formation evaluating?" Ailik asked, curious.
Saelil said, "I’m not completely sure. However, I’ve heard the evaluation is extremely precise. It has to be, because if two extremely powerful figures fight in an unsuitable place, the entire city could be destroyed in a single second."
At that moment, the void trembled, and an ancient, slightly robotic voice echoed.
"The Central Arena must be reinforced. The protection level will be raised to the maximum possible. The battle will begin in one day."
"WHAT?!"
Upon hearing the inscription’s voice, everyone present became extremely excited and shocked, like a pot boiling over.
"This has only happened once in history! It was three hundred thousand years ago, when two Vice-Masters of clans chose to fight to the death!"
"Heavens, just how powerful must those two be?!"
Countless discussions broke out. Niara, however, frowned in disappointment. She had hoped the battle would start immediately; waiting an entire day was rather discouraging.
Suddenly, Darian was transported away. In the very next second, everyone in the arena also disappeared.
"We need to buy new tickets!"
The spectators scattered in a hurry, desperately trying to secure new tickets. However, with the news spreading rapidly throughout the city, their chances of getting a spot became extremely slim.
Outside the arena.
At that moment, Saelil approached Darian and his group. She lowered her head politely. "Thank you."
Just as Darian was about to speak, the space beside them twisted, revealing a figure.
Upon seeing this person, Saelil and the others from the Violet Sky Clan almost jumped in fright and hurriedly bowed.
"Greetings, Vice-Clan Master."
A refined, middle-aged man with a long mustache and beard appeared silently beside them.
This individual was at the peak of the Heaven Saint Realm, one of the most powerful figures in this universe.
The middle-aged man smiled and nodded at Saelil and her companions before turning his attention to Darian.
"We failed in educating these youngsters of my clan. They don’t know how to treat guests and judge people only by superficial standards," the figure said in a calm and polite tone. "I’m sure the Elders instructed them and that they should know the world is vast, and that there are many kinds of power. The cultivation everyone uses is only one path. However, there are infinitely many other paths to the peak."
Hearing this, Maeyu and the others felt their faces burn.
Darian gave a slight nod and replied in a strangely cold tone: 𝚏𝗿𝗲𝐞𝐰𝚎𝕓𝐧𝚘𝘃𝗲𝐥.𝐜𝚘𝕞
"You’re very courteous, sir. When we arrived in the city, we happened to meet Miss Saelil, and she was kind enough to help us. We don’t blame anyone for treating us that way. After all, we’re just wandering adventurers. Although we may not be very intelligent, our perception is quite sharp. We don’t like causing trouble for others."
When it came to reading people, Niara and Darian could be considered experts. He could see karma and understand many things, while she could perfectly sense intentions and what someone was really thinking.
Darian didn’t even need to ask what Niara thought. He felt her judgment and understood it. As for that man’s karma... it was black, leaning far more toward dense and sinister than gray. He had done extremely questionable and dark things throughout his life.
This Vice-Clan Master was undoubtedly a crafty old fox. In fact, it was very possible that the initial confrontation at the city gates with the Scarlet Cloud Clan had been orchestrated by him.
Through that conflict, the situation escalated to the point where the two geniuses of the younger generation ended up fighting. Still, Darian didn’t believe this Vice-Clan Master was unaware of Giltei’s true strength.
Allowing Saelil to fight him was the same as condemning her to death. Now he appeared casually, as if he had nothing to do with it. It was clear he didn’t care about her well-being at all, which deeply angered Niara and Darian.
Saelil was cold and somewhat naive, but she seemed like a good girl. Yet her own clan treated her like disposable trash without her even realizing it, which was extremely infuriating.
The meaning behind Darian’s earlier words was clear: he had no relationship with the Violet Sky Clan, nor did he wish to build one. He refused to be exploited to solve their problems and made it clear he would not be treated as a mere tool.
All of this was said between the lines, disguised under a polite response. The youngsters might not have understood it, but that old fox certainly did.
The Vice-Clan Master laughed. "What problem? Since you came from so far away, my clan would be honored to welcome you. If you don’t mind, why not rest at our clan? The Clan Master wishes to meet you and sent me here. That’s why I came to invite you as an honored guest. You won’t cause me trouble, will you?"
Saelil and the others were even more shocked upon hearing this. Even they couldn’t meet the Clan Master so casually.
Darian snorted. He had made his intentions extremely clear, yet that figure shamelessly acted as if he hadn’t understood and continued with the invitation. The man seemed quite confident, as if he were certain of Darian’s origins and believed he could handle him.
This raised an alarm in Darian’s mind. When figures of this level thought he was easy to deal with, they could cause a lot of trouble. Even though he was confident he could handle it... his time was far too valuable to waste on minor problems.
"I appreciate the Senior’s invitation. However, due to the need to fight soon, I must find a place to rest. The Wood Spirits already promised me a place for that, and I accepted. I can’t refuse now, or it would be extremely rude."
Herta and Hart clearly weren’t used to lying and looked at Darian in confusion. Fortunately, they weren’t foolish enough to say anything inappropriate.
The Vice-Clan Master laughed once more. "What a pity. But since you already agreed to go with them, I won’t force you to come with me..."
At that moment, Darian had an idea. Did this clan think they knew something about him?
Wasting time wasn’t his style. So he decided to make things more interesting.
Niara immediately sensed Darian’s intentions. A wide smile appeared on her face. Darian pretended not to like drawing attention or getting into trouble, but he never missed a chance to jump straight into it.
At that instant, Darian waved his hand. Suddenly, a multicolored emblem appeared in his palm.
Ramel’s eyes widened. As for the Vice-Clan Master of that clan...
...he froze completely, his eyes almost popping out of their sockets, locked onto the emblem.
Darian let out a light laugh. "You recognize this, don’t you? My Heaven-Devouring Sparrow Clan was destroyed by the Nether Beasts, but it still exists through me. I may look like a pure human, but I carry an extremely subtle Bloodline of that race, inherited from countless generations ago. Anyway... to keep it short, the former leader of the race handed this to me in advance. I am the sole inheritor of that primordial legacy. So, I am the current Leader of that clan... even if it’s just me."
