Damned Healer-Chapter 630: Mangy Mutt
The people of the Primordial Empire had surrounded the area, but they were only watching apathetically. Not even Jason's furious roar stirred any emotional reaction from them.
Hearing the complaint shouted out loud, Nehirho replied casually, "Our mission is to capture Darian, but we're not in any hurry. It was hard getting here after rushing such a long distance, and a spectacular fight would be a nice relief after such a tiring journey. You can just ignore us."
Nehirho even made a gesture, encouraging Jason to continue, which only infuriated him even more. He had informed the Primordial Empire with good intentions, so how could they just stand there watching while he was being humiliated?
"How can you do this?! Is this how the Emperor treats all his supporters?!" Jason shouted.
"You can't put it that way," Nehirho replied lazily. "You told us about something important, so we do owe you a favor. But we don't trust a dog that switches owners so easily. You should finish the job and capture him, proving your worth. Why are you bothering us with all this?"
"You!" Jason growled, grinding his teeth so hard it hurt.
Nehirho's calm tone and shameless smile made it clear to everyone that he didn't care in the slightest about what was happening there.
While Jason was facing a life-or-death situation, Nehirho insisted on staying put, merely watching. To him, it was more advantageous to see just how far Darian's and Sylvanos's power went before taking action.
As all eyes were focused on Jason, Saelil was also staring at the clan master she had once respected so deeply. She didn't know exactly what she was feeling.
Looking at Darian, with his icy expression, Saelil felt miserable. Being able to form a friendship with him and Niara had been an incredibly rare stroke of luck. She held deep admiration for his unmatched power and heroism, even feeling proud of herself for having received their goodwill.
However, fate seemed to be mocking her. Jason had turned Darian into an enemy of the entire clan. As a member of the Violet Sky Clan, even if she didn't necessarily have to become Darian's enemy, she certainly could no longer maintain any connection with him.
With her mind in complete chaos, Saelil's complexion turned pale, and her heart grew cold. She could barely process what was happening around her.
The atmosphere was tense and silent. Sylvanos's bow remained steady like a rock, and his gaze was icy. No one doubted his resolve to kill.
Jason didn't dare make any move. After all, no one was supporting him.
In fact, if someone attacked Sylvanos, even just to distract him, Jason could seize the chance to unleash the full power of his axe.
Unfortunately, Caofeng and the other two clan masters remained there like statues, simply watching everything unfold.
As the seconds passed, Jason realized that waiting wouldn't bring him any opportunity. So he took a deep breath and put away his weapon. Even with resentment and bitterness boiling in his heart, there was nothing he could do. Compared to his appearance, his life was more important.
Darian snorted. He felt no fear at all, even if Sylvanos hadn't been there to "protect" him. Still, with the arrival of the Primordial Empire, he sensed this was an opportunity to settle everything at once in the near future.
If he kept the pot boiling and pushed the chaos to its absolute limit, he could deal with both forces at the same time and solve his problems in one go.
If he revealed himself now, he might get what he wanted from the city, but the Empire would go on alert and prepare against him. Darian was strong, but he didn't see himself as an invincible god. He couldn't underestimate his opponents, because anything could happen if they were on guard.
In short, he chose to wait a little longer and see how things played out.
"You won, but you won't keep winning. You'll regret your actions today!"
Jason said coldly. Without giving Sylvanos any chance to respond, he turned to Darian and declared, "Looks like I won't be able to kill you personally for ruining my… reputation. But that's fine. You didn't come out of nowhere. I'll investigate who's connected to you and which island you came from. I'll send everyone you know to accompany you to hell."
Darian narrowed his eyes, hesitating for a moment over whether or not to kill him right there. Jason was the most despicable type of person: a coward who attacked innocents just to vent his own rage.
Jason just huffed and left with his men. Although he wanted to witness Nehirho and the others dealing with Darian and delight in the sight of him struggling in despair, he no longer had enough of a 'face' left to show around there.
Saelil and Maeyu also left in silence. They didn't even dare say goodbye, simply walking away.
Nehirho sighed: "What a pity. After such an arduous journey, I was looking forward to a good show to help me unwind. I didn't expect the Master of the Violet Sky Clan to be all bark and no bite. Then again... he truly has no face left to bite with anyway."
Jason hadn't gone very far, so he could hear Nehirho's mocking words clearly. Clenching his fists, Jason pretended he hadn't heard them and left.
"Tch. A bully who runs the second he's challenged. If you're going to be the Primordial Empire's lapdog, at least learn how to stay. You were kicked aside like a mangy mutt, and you don't even have the balls to bark back? You really should commit more to your role as a fawning pet," Niara mocked, making sure to add her own blow.
Although they couldn't see Jason's expression, judging by the way his hair stood on end, it seemed Niara's words hurt him even more than Nehirho's.
Niara puffed out her chest with a victorious look. Darian was slightly impressed by Niara's talent for irritating people. She was like a sinister Demoness who could read minds and strike right at the most painful spot.
After Jason left, Nehirho turned his attention back to Darian.
At that moment, Sylvanos, Niara, and the two Elders moved closer to Darian, ready to support him in whatever way was needed.
The others in the group stayed farther back in the stands. Even Ramel felt intimidated in that situation; his power was nowhere near enough to help Darian. But…
Seeing the extreme calm on Darian's face and the amusement in Niara's expression, his blood boiled with certainty that they had everything under control.
At that instant, everyone from the three clans surrounded Darian's group at the center of the arena.
The people of the Primordial Empire were there to support them; meanwhile, the people from the clans didn't care about being used to capture Darian.
They all drew their weapons and stared coldly at the five of them. The entire area became flooded with fierce energies. Then…
*BUZZ*
Suddenly, a supreme spatial force erupted in the space around everyone. It forced their power back into their bodies.
Caofeng turned around and roared, "City Lord, you dare go against the entire universe for a single person?!"
Alaric was holding the core rune of the Sacred Treasure and used its power to restrain them. With an indifferent expression, he stepped forward and said casually, "There's no need for empty words. You can all go back to your homes, or disappear from the City. As for me, I have a meal to host."
Alaric's words shocked everyone. Was he really choosing the side of a stranger? And on top of that, he wasn't polite at all toward Nehirho and the others.
"Alaric Celsiel, do you even understand the situation? You won't be City Lord for much longer. Aren't you afraid?" Nehirho's face instantly turned cold.
"I could say the same to you. I, Alaric Celsiel, have no family, no sons or daughters. Nothing is holding me back from doing whatever I want. If my position can be taken at any moment, why not do something insane?" Alaric's lips curled into a sarcastic smile. "Maybe taking advantage of the fact that I still control the Sacred Treasure to drag the sixteen of you down with me would be fun, don't you think?"
Hearing that, Nehirho's expression darkened. He stared at the City Lord, trying to tell whether he was just trying to scare him. After a moment, he said, "I hope you won't regret the decision you made today."
After that, Nehirho and his allies vanished into the air, as if they had never been there.
Seeing this, the people of the three clans snorted and left as well, all of them wearing twisted expressions.
"Tch, nothing but a bunch of dogs following other people's orders. How dare they threaten me?" Alaric mocked. Then he turned to Darian and said, "Come. Let's eat together."
Niara's eyes lit up.
"This time, I won't invite the Wood Spirit Race Leader, Sylvanos. After all, the food we eat isn't suitable for Wood Spirits. You're not worried I'll mistreat them, are you?"
Darian and Niara snorted. The feeling of people thinking they were weak and wanting to protect them was strange, but they needed to keep it that way for now.
Sylvanos hesitated, since he didn't feel completely at ease. Although his race had been in the City for countless years, they didn't have much of a relationship with Alaric. As a result, he didn't trust him much.
"Race Leader, don't worry," Darian said calmly. The City Lord had offended a general of the Primordial Empire because of him, which suggested he didn't have bad intentions.
Sylvanos didn't try to change his mind. He only said that he would have people waiting for him at the entrance of the City Lord's mansion. From his eyes, Darian sensed that he had something very important to say, but still needed a bit of time to prepare.
The next instant, a green rune appeared and floated toward Darian. Sylvanos was clearly still worried, so he left a rune with him. If Darian was in danger, he could inform him immediately through that rune.
Darian took a deep breath and turned toward Ailik and the others in the stands. Ramel and Ailik rushed to his side.
Then, the City Lord waved his hand, creating a passage, and all four of them quickly entered.
