Damned Healer-Chapter 639: Stealing Is Not The Goal
In the middle of the clash, the people who were fleeing desperately shouted that they were from the Morning Star Clan, believing that would be enough to intimidate their opponents into not killing them. For a brief moment, the beasts hesitated. However, Darian attacked with everything he had, not even sparing them a second glance.
Clearly, he had no intention of letting anyone leave alive. Seeing that, the beasts attacked as well. If there were no survivors, there would be no reason for that sect to suffer any retaliation later.
A few hours later, everyone who had tried to escape was dead.
"Sir, you arrived just in time. Otherwise, all of us would have died here."
The leader of that group bowed deeply to Darian, his eyes filled with gratitude.
The people of the Morning Star Clan were extremely ruthless and, without saying a single word, would start killing right away. They didn't initially mention handing over treasures. It was as if they were only interested in killing, as if that were their primary desire. Only after having a bit of fun did they start demanding things.
The sect members were somewhat naive, but that leader was not. He was certain that even if they handed everything over, those humans would still kill them. If Darian hadn't arrived, they wouldn't have lasted long and would have been completely wiped out.
Darian shook his head. "It's not that the other side is powerful; it's that you're very weak. Honestly, you're so weak it makes me want to curse you. How did your sect think it was a good idea to only fight and train against Nether Beasts? Have you never faced people who actually use their brains?"
Those disciples lowered their heads in shame. Even though they were in the same cultivation realm, they were far weaker than their opponents.
"Sir, what should we do now?" their leader asked, his face completely red.
Darian thought for a moment. "You have two options. You can retreat and look for treasures in the outer region. Your chances of finding anything are low, but you'll also be less likely to run into enemies. The second option is to join forces with other smaller sects. With more people, you can advance more slowly. The advantage is that it'll be safer, but efficiency will drop. On top of that, you'll have to split resources among more people. The choice is yours."
The leader thought carefully. "The chances of finding treasures in the outer region are extremely low. Missing this opportunity is something we'd regret for the rest of our lives. I chose the second option. We'll join forces with other sects before going deeper."
"Remember this: if you run into people from the other four great clans or the Primordial Empire, as long as you can defeat them, make sure you kill them. You're the tenth group I've saved already. I've seen members of all five powers, and their attitude toward the weak isn't stealing treasures; it's killing. Don't show any mercy," Darian insisted.
At first, Darian had only planned to help if he had time and happened to be nearby. But once he realized that all the powerful factions were truly acting like villains without any mercy, he felt intense anger and began moving much more actively.
These people felt no shame in stealing and killing. All of them had been corrupted by greed, and it was no coincidence that they had allied with the Nether Beasts to destroy the former number one clan of the universe.
After parting ways, Awel sent a message to Darian. With her help, Darian could move toward conflicts and arrive in time to at least save some people, then wipe out all the attackers.
Darian jumped onto the flying beast he had tamed. No one dared to fly in that place, fearing the wild flow of void power, which could kill them.
However, there were some unintelligent beasts that lived in that environment. They were rare and hard to find, but they survived there because they could easily sense the void's power. Darian took advantage of them to fly quickly, without spending energy or needing to stay constantly alert.
...
One hour later.
"Sir Darian!" An excited female voice echoed out.
Darian saw Herta, Hart, and a large group with hundreds of Wood Spirits standing ahead.
As he approached, Hart explained, "Sir, we've noticed the presence of powerful figures from the Scarlet Cloud Clan. They seem to be carrying out some major operation. We're afraid we won't be able to handle it on our own."
Darian nodded. Awel had also seen members of that clan sneaking around the region. She noticed this allied group and warned Darian.
Herta added, "A short distance from here, there's a mountain valley covered in mist. It's impossible to see what's going on inside, but by the time we noticed, the Scarlet Cloud Clan had already arrived. That group stayed for a while, and then two more groups showed up. One of them included the clan's vice-master. They clearly received a message telling them to go there. I feel like there must be something important in that place."
Darian nodded again. On the map he had received from Alaric, that region was marked. It was said that some kind of treasure existed there because thousands of years ago, someone from that family had, by chance, sensed a faint but powerful aura that quickly disappeared. Even so, after many generations of searching, nothing had ever been found.
"Great. They found the place for me. Let's take a look."
Darian spoke lightly. He didn't like wasting time searching when it wasn't necessary. Stealing treasures, on the other hand, was far more efficient, and something he was particularly good at.
Darian led them into the valley. As they got closer, he raised his hand, signaling everyone to stop.
Then Darian called the archers over. He pointed toward more than ten figures from the clan who were secretly patrolling the area.
Everyone focused on where he was pointing and felt a chill when they realized those people were there using only their senses. If Darian hadn't warned them, they would never have noticed their presence.
The archers understood immediately. They drew their bows and took aim.
More than ten soft sounds rang out. Instantly, arrows bloomed from the heads of the half-beasts from that clan. Without making a sound, they collapsed lifelessly to the ground.
"Not bad. Your curved arrows are starting to get the right feel," Darian said with a slight smile, nodding in approval.
After Sylvanos handed over the entire inheritance to Darian, he finally freed his entire race from their shackles. Everyone had always thought that race was weak and could only survive by cultivating herbs and selling them, but in reality…
Sylvanos had been hiding a secret technique, known only to him and a few carefully chosen members of the race. He passed it on to everyone. In a short time, the power that had once been considered mediocre multiplied several times over.
They progressed so fast that they could already attack by tearing through the Void and Space. An arrow like that could easily kill people. It was extremely hard to detect. By the time the enemy reacted, they were already hit.
The archers were thrilled by Darian's praise. They had never been valued by anyone and used to live in the city, almost hidden away in the mountains. Now, thanks to Darian, they felt like they finally had control over their own lives.
After eliminating the scouts, they pushed deeper into the mist.
Darian's senses were sharp, and they soon encountered another wave of exposed scouts, as well as two waves of hidden ones. Darian himself didn't intervene, letting the archers handle everything.
The archers showed incredible skill. Their silent arrows seemed to hunt down the enemies' souls. Within the fog, the people of that clan didn't even know how they died.
They advanced through the mist for about two hours until it slowly began to thin.
At that moment, they started feeling the ground tremble from time to time.
"They're underground," Darian whispered, pointing toward a small mountain that seemed completely unremarkable.
Awel had already been watching that spot for some time and knew the entrance was there.
As they approached, Darian waved his hand, and space rippled. An entrance appeared.
Inside the cave, there was another group with more than two hundred figures from the Scarlet Cloud Clan. They clearly weren't expecting anyone to arrive there, and Darian managed to open the entrance and pass through with everyone completely concealed.
It was the entrance to a cave hundreds of meters wide. They could hear loud crashes coming from inside, as if people were fighting.
"We need to hurry, or the treasure will be taken by others first," Herta said, nervous yet excited. Killing malicious people to take their treasures was a new feeling for her, since it was the first time she'd done it.
"No need. Even if they get the treasure, we can just take it from them. Our goal isn't stealing treasures, it's killing people." Darian smiled in a slightly sinister way and led them into the cave.
They didn't find any sentinels. After a few minutes, they saw a gigantic open space. Then, a terrifying bestial roar shook their ears.
In that same second, Darian felt the hearts of all the Wood Spirits pounding like drums. Their expressions froze, as if they couldn't believe what they were seeing.
