Damned Healer-Chapter 685: Forgotten Treasure
An explosion echoed as the Elves attacked the second totem on the altar. After eliminating the defenders in a single second, that totem exploded.
The entire city was covered by a cutting aura, the result of the power of the runic seals embedded in the arrows.
Udynes and Barod were truly worthy of being considered the greatest specialists of their planets. Both had gone through many battles alongside Darian, within his army, learning how to command troops and act in perfect unity.
But the two weren’t just competent leaders. When they released all their power, the Spiritual Guardians with nine rings were unable to stop them. They pushed to the front line along with a small trusted group, helping Awel and Eleri prevent the enemies from blocking the arrows.
With their support, no one could stop the destruction of the altars. It was only a matter of time before everything ended.
*BANG!*
Niara’s fists made space explode. The powerful Alvs in her path were killed.
Neither she nor Darian needed to fight seriously. Darian, in particular, had told her to just keep them under control and not kill them all at once. That was because he sensed that figures inside the central inscription were observing the battle.
It was better to be careful and wait for the enemies to act, then neutralize them perfectly. Darian was anything but arrogant or stupid. His allies were handling everything easily, so he clearly had the advantage.
The army advanced toward the other altar. As long as the altars were destroyed, Darian could attack the center with everything, without any restraint.
"Stop them!"
One of the Alvs rushed toward Darian. Suddenly, his aura swelled explosively.
*BOOM!*
That Alv with nine rings simply detonated right in front of him. Because of the Alvs’ bloodline and elemental control, it was like detonating a weapon. The terrifying power was like an erupting volcano.
Unfortunately for that idiot, Darian’s eyes only glowed subtly as he activated his stellar physique for a second. The explosion didn’t even leave a scratch.
Those figures, realizing there was no other path, chose to use their own lives to buy time.
Another charged at Darian, but he anticipated the attack and cut him down with his dagger, killing him before he had time to detonate. Niara did the same. For the two of them, dealing with something like that was ridiculously easy.
But that was only true for them. The distant army was facing the same problem. The Alvs seemed to have gone mad. They threw away any attempt to fight and started detonating themselves like explosives, without any hesitation.
At that moment, a rain of arrows tore through the air. A small squad of archers stopped aiming at the altars and moved to support the front line, making hundreds of defenders fall.
Udynes was directing the fight. Darian’s orders were to focus on the altars, but with the enemies’ collective suicide, that would take too long. That way, even splitting the archers, the strategy became more effective and faster.
"Die!"
The Alvs went even crazier, and some even grouped together to detonate, just to create an opening that would let one of them reach the archers. Those troublesome ones needed to be eliminated immediately.
However, they had beasts protecting them. Everyone in the army was well-trained and managed to protect them. So they kept attacking and defending steadily.
*BOOM!*
Suddenly, another totem exploded, catching everyone by surprise.
This one was on an altar far from the army, and the defenders there were left catatonic, since they hadn’t seen anything before the explosion.
When they turned around, they saw a beautiful young woman with a mocking smile on her face, radiating a bright wind aura.
In the next instant, she simply disappeared, as if she had evaporated, making those people jump in shock.
When the battle stabilized, Awel was able to merge with the atmosphere and destroy a totem on her own.
All the Alvs felt a cold sweat run down their spines. They couldn’t sense any fluctuation. How was that possible? They were already dealing with an army that seemed impossible to face. Now this anomaly could still attack them from behind.
"Stop her!"
At another altar, people reacted immediately. 𝐟𝐫𝕖𝗲𝘄𝚎𝗯𝕟𝐨𝕧𝐞𝚕.𝕔𝕠𝐦
Awel could reach the place without being seen or sensed, but the moment she needed to attack, the fluctuations became noticeable.
They were very subtle, but now that they knew about her, they could detect them.
With the order given, the Alvs began to self-destruct in front of the altar. Shockwaves spread in every direction, and even Awel was forced to retreat, being stopped from destroying it.
At that moment, the space above those people shattered. Then, everyone saw a whip fall like a meteor straight toward the altar.
Even in that distorted space, even with the Alvs detonating at full force, Eleri’s Bone Whip managed to ignore everything and crush them.
Awel was very smart and had learned everything she could from Darian. She knew she would be noticed and acted in sync with her sister, guaranteeing the destruction of the altar.
But, at the exact moment the whip was about to strike the totem on the altar...
...the void distorted, and two figures emerged from the city’s central inscription, blocking the bone whip with a violent crash.
A wave of golden energy erupted.
Awel and Eleri were caught off guard and, as a result, coughed up a large amount of blood as they were thrown backward. It felt as if their bodies had almost exploded. That power...
"It’s them!" Barod exclaimed, with a bloodthirsty look.
Darian also focused on those figures, showing a sinister smile. They were old acquaintances: two immortal demons, one radiating a red, blazing aura, the other a blue, freezing one.
But these were not ordinary elemental auras. This was pure Bloodline power coming from two Primordial Beasts: the fire phoenix and the ice phoenix.
These demons were the same ones who had tried to obtain the phoenix inheritance during the special mission Darian took part in many years ago. Since Darian didn’t give them what they wanted, everything around him changed completely, with the Wube family starting to hunt him down. (Chapter 198)
Later, when Darian returned from the Devil and Celestial World, those two immortal demons appeared again. However, Remira beat them to the brink of death, forcing them to flee.
Darian even spoke with Caliris about them. The two had been her old allies, and it was she who helped them become immortal, sacrificing many lives and resources in the process. But obviously, those demons didn’t dare return or contact Caliris, since they knew she had become a kind of slave.
Thus, the years passed without any news of the two. The only certainty was that they were being protected by the three enemy Spiritual Sovereigns.
Back to the battle.
The two demons stared coldly at Darian. In the past, they truly believed Darian was just an arrogant young human they could kill at any time. But in the end... if they could go back in time, they would never have picked a fight with him.
There were two altars left to be destroyed, and they had received direct orders not to let that happen. So... they had no choice but to unleash everything they had.
The two demons let out a heavy breath, a guttural sound that seemed to make the very air vibrate. With a synchronized motion, they waved their hands.
Immediately, the reality behind them shattered. Space didn’t just distort; it tore open, forming an abyssal rift that pulsed like a mechanical heart.
From within that void...
"!"
A devastating radiance burst forth, bathing the city in a blinding white light. Along with the light came pressure. It was as if the hand of a god had descended upon the shoulders of every living being, forcing them to bend their knees before what was about to come.
At that instant, Niara’s and Darian’s pupils changed.
Their hearts raced...
It was pure surprise mixed with excitement.
"It’s them... the two Phoenixes!" Niara shouted, her voice trembling with ecstasy.
Before them, two colossal carcasses floated beneath the paling sky. They were two phoenixes devoid of flesh or feathers. Only skeletons remained, formed from primordial bones of an ivory-white hue, their joints held together by a supernatural will.
All of their bones were covered in pulsing runes. From one poured scarlet fire that didn’t burn oxygen, but the very structure of reality itself; from the other emanated absolute cold, a sky-blue ice that crystallized the surrounding air into fractal patterns.
The skeletons shone in a sinister way, and with every beat of their bony wings, space-time groaned and rippled like fabric under a storm.
During that mission, Darian had learned directly from the phoenixes themselves that the demons had killed them and taken their bodies and complete Bloodlines. Now, he stood before an incredible forgotten treasure, something he had truly forgotten even existed.
