DC: A New Beginning-Chapter 71: The Last Timeline
When Viktor and Reverse-Flash finally stepped onto the last and most final destruction timeline...
The enormous ball of light blocking out the entire sky almost blinded both of them on the spot.
"The timing is THIS close to the edge?!!"
Viktor had no confidence that he could survive the Earth’s explosion.
From the size of the orb and the ground constantly cracking open and spewing lava, it looked like Earth would be completely destroyed in only a few seconds.
Luckily, both of them could move at extremely high speed in an instant.
Reverse-Flash shot forward, ran a full lap in a fraction of a second, and came back and waved Viktor over.
Viktor immediately followed behind Reverse-Flash and broke through into a golden magnetic field.
He looked back at the orb outside the golden field and immediately understood why Luthor had been so confident in choosing his base at a point in time so close to destruction, with almost no margin of error before total destruction.
Lex’s intellect truly was something worth praising.
Strictly speaking, the Flash had only been captured for a little over half a day, and yet Luthor had already constructed a time acceleration field.
"Lex Luthor really is deviously clever."
Reverse-Flash looked in terrible shape, bent over with both hands on his knees, gasping continuously.
"We’re already at the end of the timeline, and yet he still deliberately set our arrival point on the opposite side of that giant orb of light."
Viktor was somewhat puzzled.
"How did you get this exhausted?"
Reverse-Flash stared with wide eyes and gasped several more times before finally spitting out an angry complaint.
"Luthor reverse-engineered a speedster’s worst nightmare from the Speed Force, the Still Force!"
"As soon as I entered that world, I was trapped inside a Still Force field, and then a Captain Cold who’d been waiting right there froze both my legs solid with a cold gun!"
Reverse-Flash cursed and seemed to shiver in fear as he recalled the event.
"Luckily, that Still Force field didn’t last long. Luthor probably hadn’t found a way to stabilize yet, and it only lasted a few seconds before it disappeared."
"I honestly started wondering whether I’d ended up in the wrong place because a lot of metahumans took advantage of my frozen legs and swarmed me all at once. They almost chopped me into pieces."
Then Reverse-Flash turned and glared at him with obvious frustration.
"What about your side?"
Viktor paused, then pointed at his own face.
"An extremely intense fight. She even knocked my mask off."
"...Really."
Reverse-Flash gave him a look full of clear doubt, as his suit was covered in battle damage everywhere.
However, Viktor looked completely clean, as if his suit had just been through an expensive professional cleaning.
Viktor didn’t look at Reverse-Flash. Instead, he stared solemnly ahead.
"Even at this point, Luthor still hasn’t completely given up resisting. We should deal with what’s in front of us first."
Reverse-Flash turned at those words and saw dozens of battle robots covered in gleaming metallic surfaces charging straight toward them.
The two of them engaged at the same time.
Reverse-Flash’s red lightning flashed back and forth, and every robot it passed through had its core pierced by a phasing hand blade.
Viktor’s approach was much simpler. He flew straight in and punched each one apart with a single hit, smashing them all to pieces.
Afterward, Viktor shot upward into the sky several hundred meters, then dove straight down, and blasted apart the entire top layer of soil and rock on the ground.
A massive metal panel was revealed beneath Viktor’s feet.
"A solid metal building poured in one piece?"
He stamped down hard on it.
Through the enormous reverberating shockwave, Viktor could see the entire metal plate sinking just a little deeper into the ground below.
"He really didn’t hold back when it came to building a safe house. If the people waiting in ambush in the earlier timelines had weapons or armor made from this kind of material, we’d probably have had a much harder time."
Viktor didn’t dare keep smashing with brute force.
If the Flash happened to be locked up right here, then all the effort getting this far would be completely wasted because killing Luthor from the shockwave might kill the Flash at the same time.
Then, Reverse-Flash raised his high-speed vibrating hand like a blade and traced a circle on that metal plate.
The seemingly impenetrable metal was disrupted at the molecular level by the vibration, and a gap opened.
Viktor jumped in first but didn’t land directly.
Unexpectedly, no attacks came.
The only things he saw were the yellow flashes of light flickering inside that giant hamster wheel and a single bald man sitting calmly in a chair, and a female secretary standing to the side.
The bald man stood up, straightened his now-wrinkled green suit, and looked up at Viktor.
The disgust in his eyes was plain to see.
"This world is truly unfair."
Lex Luthor gritted his teeth and sighed.
"Superhumans are born with every advantage handed to them, and I was so close, just one more step!"
Viktor didn’t land on the ground. He stayed hovering up high, looking down at Luthor from above.
Hearing Luthor’s frustrated complaints, Viktor wasn’t in the mood to argue.
"Is it just the two of you in this place?"
Before Luthor even answered, Viktor tilted his head to the side and focused his attention on the room just beyond the metal wall nearby.
He could hear nervous breaths, crying, and heartbeats coming from inside.
However... they seemed to be just a group of children.
Seeing that he had no intention of talking to him, Luthor stopped trying to complain and simply let out a cold snort.
"Before you came in, I already had all the adults among the survivors executed, and all that’s left is a group of children. Even Aquaman and Wonder Woman from our world wouldn’t lay a hand on a group of children when they posed no threat!"
Hearing those words, Viktor turned and looked at Luthor, whose pupils were starting to look unfocused.
He floated silently in front of Luthor, slowly lowering himself as he asked one final question.
"You really are a very decisive person. Any last words?"
Luthor’s mouth opened slightly, but with a sharp cracking sound, Viktor’s punch pierced through his chest.
"Never mind. You’re a dangerous individual, and you’re not a child."
He looked toward the female secretary at the side, whose expression had remained perfectly calm the entire time and her left hand, holding a pistol, slowly raised up. 𝙛𝓻𝒆𝒆𝒘𝙚𝓫𝙣𝙤𝒗𝙚𝓵.𝙘𝙤𝙢
The barrel pressed against her own temple.
"Allow me to convey the Boss’s final words. Do you really think you’ve won?"
"Bang!"
After the gunshot, the secretary followed in Luthor’s footsteps and fell.
Viktor turned around and saw that Reverse-Flash had already been examining the giant hamster wheel for a while.
"It needs some simple modification. Then I can temporarily take the Flash’s place and keep the Speed Force output going. As long as this acceleration field keeps running, we should have roughly two more hours of relative time."
Viktor nodded and wandered around the room for a while, eventually finding the switch to open the gate to the next space.
The gate door slowly rose up, and a large group of children immediately began screaming in terror.
Especially after Viktor stepped into the room and saw his arms covered in blood and bits of flesh on him when the secretary had committed suicide.
The children screamed even louder, and shrieking filled the air without stopping.
A few of the slightly older kids positioned themselves at the front, clearly old enough to understand what all that blood meant.
Viktor looked at the kids, then rolled his eyes at the few who had already fainted from fright.
He pressed his earpiece and reconnected the cross-dimensional communication that had been shut off for so long.
"We have approximately two hours of relative time to evacuate a large group of children. Does anyone have a plan?"
