Death Mage with an SS-Rank Talent-Chapter 212
Chapter 212: Chapter 212
The trio didn’t have to wait for long before the entourage passed through the area where they were waiting to ambush them.
"Erika, they are here. Disappear into shadows, and act when it feels it is the right time", Aaron said to Erika, then he turned to Diana, "Diana, make those vehicles stop".
Erika nodded and disappeared into the shadows and got down to the road, waiting for the right time to strike.
Diana pulled her bow out and readied herself. When the vehicles came into range, she shot [Dark Arrows] at the tires of the vehicles. It was so quick that if other archers saw her, they would be astonished.
Dark Arrow is a skill that uses mana turned into an arrow made of Dark Element. It is an energy attack, and as it was night, no one saw her shoot, except for Aaron who was nearby her.
Within seconds, the vehicles came to a stop.
When the slavers checked their vehicles, their tires were out but they couldn’t find a foul play. The arrows were energy. They dispersed as soon as they done their job.
If those vehicles had lights on, they might have seen the arrows appearing before them, but they didn’t, which gave the perfect cover for the Dark Aarows to do their job without getting destroyed.
If the slavers saw those Dark Aarows, they might countered them easily.
Since the job was just to slash some tires, Diana didn’t put much energy into the arrows. These arrows are very weak, just enough to slash the tires, nothing more. She did this not just to save energy but also not attract attention.
If there was a huge flare, one doesn’t need high perception to detect it.
Their positions would be comprimised, which was not the objective and a hundred percent success is needed to stop all the vehicles. Even if one can move, they might try that to ride away when they see the fight would not be going in their favour.
If this was just the slavers, the trio could easily defeat them, even if they were spotted. The girls might not be sure, but Aaron was sure about that fact.
His undead would clean the battlefield clean, but what they can’t do was protect the villagers. As the rank increased, their intelligence increased, but not upto a point where they would prioritize protecting the villagers to cleaning up the slavers.
Though Aaron didn’t know these people, for now, their survival depends on him. Even if one dies, he was sure that the guilt would eat him out. So, he intended to be cautious in his approach. There was nothing wrong with this approach.
It is better to be cautious than be dead or bored down with guilt of failing to save others.
Feeling guilty would be worse than death in a world where strength is paramount. He didn’t want to be slowed down as that’s what guilt would do to people. It was same in every world.
---
"Summon Ghosts".
Aaron summoned ghosts, rather than skeletons, as he wanted to catch a few slavers off guard when their defences were low.
"Diana, aim for the soldiers near those trucks. Our objective was to save them, and as long as we can keep those idiots from nearing the trucks, we can stop them from doing anything stupid like killing the prisoners before they die", Aaron spoke to Diana.
Diana nodded and started her work.
The arrows easily took out the soldiers gathered near the trucks.
The soldiers who didn’t understand why the tires went flat for all vehicles didn’t put up any defences. The first ones that were shot easily died. Only then were the others alerted.
"Ambush...Ambush", the soldiers near the fallen cried out.
Others who were far away from the fallen immediately pulled out their shields or activated skills to protect against the attacks, but they were wrong.
It was because Aaron didn’t unleash skeletons as he usually does. He unleashed ghosts, which physical attacks can’t hurt. Only spellcasters can harm them, which the slaver group lacked. They have a few, but they were weak, and their attacks gave nothing but scratches to the ghosts.
The soldiers started to fall one by one, screaming in pain. They may have shields, but mind attacks were the main attacking power of the ghosts. Mind attack protection skills or items are rare, and there is a very low chance of finding such treasures among this small rabble.
The slavers who saw their comrades falling in pain started to attack the ghosts, even forgetting a bit about the archer who shot a few of their members down a few seconds ago.
While the undead from Aaron and the arrows from Diana attracted most, Erika acted from behind and slowly started to take out the soldiers one by one. It was too easy for her.
Soon, the battle came to an end. None of the slavers were standing. Everyone was gone in under three minutes.
Aaron and Diana appeared at the site as the last slaver fell.
"That was done, now let’s go release the villagers", Erika said as they thought that everyone was dead.
Clang!
"Looks like someone is alive and hiding. Let’s check", Diana spoke as she moved to check the area from where the sound came from.
Erika followed her, but Aaron stood still, feeling that something is not right with that sound.
"If the survivors are trying to attack, we should have heard more than that small sound. If they were trying to escape, then they would have done so silently. Maybe they were unlucky, but let’s wait and see. The girls are more than enough to catch whatever was lurking. I can send a few ghosts as backup", Aaron thought as he sent a few ghosts with the girls.
He checked the area with his raw perception attributes, but found none around; however, there was interference from the vehicles themselves. This was something he had felt before at the bandit base.
They are doing illegal activities. If anyone perceives what they were transporting, they would be done for. So, they coated the vehicles with perception-blocking materials.
Unless one uses an active perception skill, it would be impossible to know what was inside, but no one would be able to use those skills continuously on all vehicles that block perception.
It was used in almost every vehicle and even in many buildings to create privacy for the ones inside.
Aaron remembered that he didn’t see anyone exit the vehicle when the attack happened. There are at least two drivers who are needed to drive the trucks.
He was not sure if he had missed them leaving, as he was concentrating on making sure none came near the truck. Even though he was not sure, he had doubts. So, he stayed behind and kept an eye on the trucks.
If they were still behind, he wanted to catch them. Killing them would be easier, but if he can catch them, the authorities can extract the information to shut down a few slavery routes. This way, he can indirectly save a few people.
Aaron never saw himself as a hero. He just want to have a good life with his family and the best way for that to happen is to have a fewer evil elements in the society.
