Chapter 266: Chapter 266

The shadow has confirmed that the boy named Aaron is truly its master, but it also knows that he has yet to become truly his master. Until then, he couldn’t show himself, and so it hid itself, watching over the boy, but that soon became a bore.

After Aaron got the necklace, he left for the academy in a roundabout way. This was a way to create an alibi for himself regarding the changes that happened in the mist after the necklace was taken away from the place.

In that journey, Aaron met someone named Jay. Looking at that boy, the shadow was fascinated, especially when he saw Jay’s eyes glow when he saw Aaron.

He knew that glow. The boy just saw the status of Aaron.

As a being that lived for a long time, he knew many secret and unique skills that exist in this world, that most of the world has no idea even exist.

Jay knows that the status of Aaron might be a problem for Aaron. So, the shadow felt that it should remove the threat before it could become an actual threat in the future.

Since they were in public, he decided to hold his hand for a while. He can take care of him when there are none.

The shadow always stayed in the shadows, never showing itself or its actions in view of others. Being in shadows has its advantages, and also, there was another reason why it never shows itself or leaves any evidence behind.

The reason was simple. He was hiding from certain people.

"Even if there was a small whiff of my whereabouts, it wouldn’t be just me that would be in trouble, but the master too would be in trouble. It would be like clearing a small hurdle for the master only to make an even bigger one in his path. So, let’s wait for now and see how it goes", the shadow decided to stay his hand for now.

As time went on, seeing the actions of Jay, he felt that he judged him badly, and it turned out to be a good thing that he didn’t try to eliminate him. Aaron would have missed out on many opportunities that Jay provided and would do so in the future.

---

After that, the shadow continued to follow Aaron to guard him and watch his growth. This was something he couldn’t do before, but he can do so now, which he felt was great, especially after Aaron was sent to the Last Bastion.

Levelling up in the dungeons started to bore the shadow. He felt that he could see something good at the borders, where many dangerous monsters roam, but the cautious nature and the overwhelming power of Aaron made the fights end before he could even understand that a battle had started.

The shadow bored out of the ruotine that Aaron followed.

There were almost no dangers or anything new to learn. So when it learned about the team that would be leaving the Last Bastion for a secret mission, it followed them.

Not only could this cure his boredom, but he could also learn something new about what’s happening in the world.

Information about what’s happening in the world is quite important, no matter the time period.

---

The shadow followed the team to the capital, where there were the other two teams that were going on the same mission as them.

It was there that he learned that they were looking for some ruin that the Cult had found, and their mission was to retrieve it before the cult could do so.

Another part of the mission was to catch someone called Supreme, who could be there or would arrive soon.

When the shadow heard the name, it got angry, but it controlled its anger before others could detect its presence.

To be an absolute shadow, it needs to control its emotions. Any change in its emotions can show its presence to others. As someone who lived for a long time, the shadow can control its emotions very well and control its anger in seconds, before anyone present can perceive its anger.

When the shadow learned about the destination and the route that they were going to take, it was surprised.

Rock City is Aaron’s hometown, but that’s not what surprised him. It was the mission’s location.

The Wasteland.

"Are they talking about that. If so, how the hell did they find out about that?"

Then he remembered something that he heard some time ago, "Oh yeah, I forgot that the world is going through an upgrade now. Hmm, let’s see what these idiots can gain from this expedition. Moreover, they have to find the correct location first", the shadow chuckled to itself.

It followed the team to the wasteland.

---

Once they reached the wasteland, the alliance team split up into groups. Each group did a certain job.

Some cooked food for the team, while some took the guard duty, while the others searched for the location of the ruins.

Though everyone could do the search, which could yield the result sooner, that is not effective when there is no food to eat or people to guard against possible monsters or cult attacks.

There were cult members in the area, whom they knew beforehand, and if they gave any chance of attack, those cults would definitely attack them. It would end up badly for the team.

So, even if it took time, they chose the safest way to do so.

The shadow felt that it was good and observed them for a while before it got bored and started to venture out.

Every now and then, it would find a monster or a cult member. It even found some hideouts, but did nothing as the members are so low-ranking. So, he ignored them and searched the area to see if there were any new changes in the past few decades since he had been here.

---

After days of search, when the team finally found the traces of the ruins, the Shadow, though surprised a bit, didn’t think much.

The alliance has gained a lot of experience over the centuries since magic came into existence in this world. So, their finding of this place after a search of almost a month was not surprising. It can be considered average.

Though that was not what interested it.

The shadow was sure that the "Supreme" would appear as the alliance had found the ruins, and it was right.

Only two days after they found the place, Supreme showed up and initiated the attack.

Long before the supreme made an attack, it sensed his presence and hid instead of warning the alliance. Its allegiance doesn’t lie with the alliance. So, it doesn’t care whether the alliance survives or not, but it also hates the supreme and the cult.

While James and the survivors started fighting the "Supreme", the shadow waited for a while.

Only when it saw a chance did it attack from behind. It didn’t make any flashy moves, as that could attract unwanted attention to it and at the moment, it can’t do so. It just used a Debuff Skill, but something that could bring him down. freёweɓnovel_com
