Delayed Passion: Miss Lynch's Unrequited Love-Chapter 40: Calling Reinforcements
Thea Lynch threatened Ian Preston, and Ian Preston threatened her back. Both had strong personalities, so neither was backing down.
In the end, they had no choice but to reach a consensus, and Thea Lynch spent a week recuperating at home.
By the second week, she could walk, but she had to be careful not to stand for too long.
On her first day back at the company, Thea Lynch was busy handling the pile of work that had accumulated, so busy that she even squeezed time out of her lunch break.
In the evening, several teams from the R&D department held a late-night meeting together, and Thea Lynch was so sleepy she kept nodding off, barely paying attention to the meeting content. 𝚏𝐫𝚎𝗲𝕨𝐞𝐛𝕟𝚘𝐯𝚎𝗹.𝕔𝐨𝗺
Someone said something, and Foreman Chandler nudged her arm with his elbow.
"Hmm?" Thea Lynch asked drowsily, not quite awake, "What’s going on?"
Foreman Chandler cleared his throat and signaled with his eyes for her to look ahead.
Following his gaze, Thea Lynch met the eyes of a team leader from the second R&D department.
Her brows furrowed slightly, unsure of what was happening. Foreman Chandler leaned forward and whispered to her, "That jerk wants to borrow people from us."
Currently, the first R&D department has two teams working together on the Valiant project, which makes Thea Lynch the boss of the first department. Therefore, borrowing people naturally requires her approval.
"Borrow people?" Thea Lynch smiled at the team leader across from her, looking very approachable. "Is the second department short-handed?"
"That’s right, Foreman Lynch. It’s normal that you didn’t know since you weren’t here for a few days. We took on a major project from above, and it’s urgent. The third department directly transferred a team to help."
The significance of the "above" goes without saying.
The project doesn’t compare in monetary value to the Valiant project, but in terms of importance, the Valiant project is much less significant.
"Damn, that’s not the attitude of someone asking for help." Foreman Chandler muttered, "Our first department already has the fewest people."
Thea Lynch wasn’t angry, "Oh, really? Then how many do you want to borrow?"
"The big shots in the first department are untouchable, but if you could spare two or three assistants to help, that would be great."
As soon as he finished speaking, Foreman Chandler slammed the table in anger, "Connor Warren, have some respect, will you? We don’t have anyone to spare. Bullying us, huh?"
"Foreman Chandler, that’s too much. Aren’t we discussing this properly with Foreman Lynch? This project is urgent, and we have no other choice. Can’t keep the higher-ups waiting too long. Besides, we’re only asking for one or two people. What’s with the temper?"
"Easy for you to say. Can’t you guys work overtime yourselves if you’re short-staffed? You have to trouble others?"
"Hey, hey, hey, what’s with that?"
The people across the table were all seasoned veterans, not easily outmaneuvered by Foreman Chandler.
Thea Lynch raised her hand to pat Foreman Chandler, signaling him to sit down.
Foreman Chandler wanted to curse a couple more times, but his arm was patted again, and Thea Lynch said two words: "Let me."
"..." Hesitantly, Foreman Chandler sat back down.
Thea Lynch crossed her legs, slightly turned her body, remaining seated in her spot the entire time without moving an inch. Her expression was as calm as ever, showing no signs of anger.
The conference room was silent, and everyone looked at her, waiting for her to speak.
"Borrowing people is easy." Thea Lynch’s eyes held a smile, looking gentle, "We’re all part of the same company, of course, we can lend people. Don’t mention anything else; since you rarely ask for something, even if it’s borrowing me and Foreman Chandler, I have to agree."
Upon hearing this, the team leader across the table breathed a sigh of relief, "I knew Foreman Lynch would be reasonable."
Looks like this girl wasn’t as difficult to deal with as rumored, quite easy to "push around."
"However, Foreman Warren, you know we have fewer people in the first department. This time we’re lending you people to help you complete this project. But afterward, we also need to catch up on progress. Don’t you think it would be fair for you to come and help us too?"
"Of course, of course, once ours is done, I’ll lend you a couple of assistants!"
Foreman Chandler didn’t expect Thea Lynch to agree, and both sides reached an agreement like this. Across the table, Connor Warren wore a smug look directed at him.
Foreman Chandler was so angry he gritted his teeth and got up to curse.
"I’m afraid that’s not possible."
Suddenly, a firm voice came from beside him.
Foreman Chandler and Foreman Warren both froze.
Foreman Warren frowned, "Foreman Lynch wants to go back on her word?"
Thea Lynch gently shook her head, "No, I never go back on what I’ve agreed to. I always see it through. But the problem is, with how busy the first department is, your small assistants might not be of much help."
"What do you mean?"
"I mean, in return, it would be troublesome if Foreman Warren and a few others could come over to the first department later."
Foreman Warren’s face showed difficulty as he tried to dissuade her, "No way, we have other projects at that time, and we can’t be of much help with the Valiant project either."
"No, I didn’t say you should get involved in the project. What I’m saying is..." She raised her eyebrows, pointing her pen at Foreman Warren and the others across the table, "You all need to come over and be assistants for the first department."
Everyone: "!!!"
Foreman Chandler was stunned in place. He didn’t need to look up to know the expression on Connor Warren and the others’ faces.
Let alone the fact Connor Warren and his team hadn’t reacted, even he was shocked.
Today, only the two team leaders from the first department were present. If a conflict broke out later, Foreman Lynch, being a girl, couldn’t handle it. Ugh, but even he couldn’t fight back!
Frustrated, Foreman Chandler reached into his pocket, closed his eyes in annoyance, and cursed. Finished, came to the meeting without even bringing a phone, couldn’t even call for backup!
"This..." Seeing the situation turning sour, Foreman Chandler tried to salvage the situation.
Connor Warren slapped the table and stood up, not giving him a chance to speak, "Foreman Lynch, don’t push too far. We were discussing the borrowing matter properly, but what’s with your first department’s attitude? If you don’t want to lend, don’t lend, but why insult us!"
"Foreman Warren, Foreman Warren! Calm down!" Other team leaders pretended to persuade Foreman Warren, with some even stepping in to physically restrain him.
Seeing Thea Lynch unmoved, Foreman Chandler confronted Connor Warren, "Connor Warren, who are you pointing at? A big man yelling at a girl, huh? Weren’t you the one badmouthing us first? Now you’re playing the victim, huh!"
Foreman Chandler argued back while signaling Thea Lynch to leave first. Then he turned and continued to charge into the fray.
The atmosphere was tense.
Thea Lynch was both amused and helpless.
"Foreman Chandler." She reluctantly called out again. Foreman Chandler finally stopped, looking at her in confusion.
Thea Lynch raised her hand, signaling him to remain calm. Then she looked up at the people standing across the table, smiling, "Foreman Warren, that’s quite the posture. What, want to fight?"
She spread her hands, "Sure, I’m sitting right here, not budging."
"..."
"Not going to fight?" Thea Lynch asked.
Knowing someone was holding him back, Connor Warren gritted his teeth, "Let go of me, I’m..."
Before he could finish, with a "pa" sound, Thea Lynch slammed her pen down on the table heavily. Ink splattered across the table, scattered files, and the wall, creating a long ink wash painting.
Everyone fell silent instantly.
