Delayed Passion: Miss Lynch's Unrequited Love-Chapter 90: It’s Not the First Time
"..."
Thea Lynch was held tightly from behind by him, unable to open the door, her whole body felt as if it were locked in a vise, unable to move.
"Isn’t that your assistant at the door?" she asked, puzzled as to why they couldn’t open the door.
Ian Preston didn’t give her an answer, but the person outside soon gave her an answer.
"Thea Lynch!"
It was Sean Bell’s voice. Thea’s mouth twitched hard, what on earth were these two brothers up to.
Were they taking turns to come over and brainwash her in the middle of the night?
"It’s Sean Bell."
Someone was already at the door, there was no reason not to open it. Although she had many issues with Sean Bell, he is, after all, her fifth brother, so she couldn’t really shut him out.
It wasn’t like he was an outsider.
She explained to Ian, but he remained unmoved, as if he was specifically targeting Sean Bell.
What was going on...
The doorbell automatically hung up, followed by a persistent knocking. Sean Bell never had any sense of "morality" to begin with, completely disregarding the time and place while knocking, caring little whether he was disturbing the neighbors or interrupting her rest.
Every knock was with great force.
Thea was already close to the door, the knocking resounding in her ears, causing her ears to ache.
Sean Bell was the type who would never give up until he achieved his goal, if she didn’t open the door today, he would probably keep knocking.
"He won’t leave."
"You don’t have to pay him any mind."
"..."
After a few minutes of stalemate, Ian pulled her back, "Go wash up and rest."
Thea curled her lips, pointing at the door, "With such a commotion, how can I rest?"
Ian checked the time, giving her a solution, "You go rest, I’ll take him away."
This was a good idea.
Thea really didn’t have the energy to deal with Sean Bell any longer.
"I’ll come pick you up on Saturday, and we’ll go back to the estate together."
Thea needed to go back to deliver a painting, "Alright."
Before leaving, Ian hesitated a moment, and then said good night to her. Thea paused for a moment, then nodded after a while, "Good night, third brother."
——
Outside the door, Sean Bell was still knocking.
Suddenly, the door was opened from the inside, and Sean Bell froze for a moment, his hand still hanging in mid-air, unable to retract it in time, "Why are you so..."
Before he could finish his sentence, he looked up and met Ian Preston’s slightly cold gaze.
"Third brother?" No matter how composed Sean Bell was, seeing Ian here surprised him.
Mainly because it took so long to get the door open...
Sean Bell raised an eyebrow, his gaze sweeping past him noting he didn’t see Thea’s figure.
"How long have you been here, third brother?"
He hadn’t noticed Ian’s car downstairs earlier, otherwise, he wouldn’t have been so surprised.
Ian came out from inside, not giving him an opportunity to enter, directly closing the door. Seeing this, the smile in Sean Bell’s eyes grew stronger.
"Are you so worried about me, third brother? I wasn’t about to barge in."
"Let’s talk outside," Ian disregarded his teasing, heading towards the elevator.
Seeing this, Sean Bell didn’t linger, obediently followed him and pressed the elevator button.
——
In the car, the assistant closed the back seat doors and stepped aside with the driver to wait.
In the back seat, the two sat on either end.
Seeing Ian take out a cigarette, Sean Bell naturally took on the task of lighting it for him.
"Did you also come because of that issue, third brother? Your news is faster than mine."
Sean had just found out that evening, otherwise, he wouldn’t have just come now.
"But by the way, third brother, you should really have a good talk with Aunt, it’s one thing for her to go find Thea, but she also pulls my mom into it. You know my mom’s health conditions."
"Isn’t Aunt getting too idle at home lately with nothing to do? Spending all day thinking about that trivial matter. If it doesn’t work out, third brother, find something for Aunt to do."
"If you’re too busy, I’ll handle it."
"Oh right," after a pause, Sean Bell said with a bit of schadenfreude, "I heard from my mom that this time Thea didn’t let Aunt mess around, even my mom could see Aunt was angry."
He had just seen the message from his mother that evening; he had been busy with a case all day and only had time now.
"I was planning to talk to you about it later, third brother, didn’t expect you’d be here so early."
It’s natural; there are Ian’s people all over Stratus.
Even the nominal owner, Silas Cheney, is like Ian’s mobile surveillance camera.
Presumably, he came right over as soon as he got the news.
"Tomorrow I’ll go back and communicate properly with Mother, it won’t happen again."
There are not many people who can make Ian make promises, making Sean Bell feel secretly delighted. Usually, it was him saying such things.
Ian brushed off the cigarette ash, his expression inscrutable.
He was also thinking about how to handle this matter.
It seemed like what Thea said was true; this hurdle would always be there, impossible to get past.
His mother wasn’t a forgiving person; otherwise, she wouldn’t have held a grudge against the Lynch parents even now, even going so far as to take it out on Thea, a junior.
This issue, both he and Father and even Grandfather, had earnestly persuaded them about a long time ago.
To put it bluntly, the Lynch parents had been gone for years, there was truly no need for this.
But his mother was overly stubborn, as if trapped in her own world, unable to hear a word of contrary opinions.
Especially when it came to matters about the Lynch parents.
"What did Aunt hear them talk about?" Ian asked, turning to Sean Bell.
Though the two brothers usually didn’t see eye to eye, they were united at this moment, both standing on Thea’s side, wanting to solve the issue properly.
Sean Bell didn’t hold back, reporting truthfully:
"Initially, there was overhearing, but later Aunt sent my mom away. When she came back, my mom said Aunt’s face didn’t look great. Upon asking, Aunt just said Thea was getting more and more unruly, but did not specify."
He asked several times, and his mother just said that in the cafe, Thea did indeed have a bit of back talk with Aunt. As for what happened afterward, his mother truly hadn’t heard.
After chatting, Sean Bell, too lazy to drive back himself, took Ian’s ride and let his assistant drive his car away.
Both of them were heading to the estate tonight, Ian didn’t head down with him either.
Upon arrival, Sean Bell was the first to get out of the car, just as his fingers touched the car door, he let out a sudden gasp, turning back to look at Ian.
The latter furrowed his brows, dissatisfied with his sudden reaction.
"Don’t take it lightly, third brother." Sean Bell smiled, casually saying, "If I’m not mistaken, it’s not the first time Aunt has acted like this."
"..."
Ian’s gaze grew instantly dark, "What do you know."
He always knew Sean Bell and Thea had some unspeakable secrets, but never dug deep into it.
Mainly because Sean Bell was hard to crack open.
Not to mention Thea.
"That’s quite a lot." Sean Bell played it coyly, "Which part does third brother want to hear?"
