Demon CEO's Hidden Love: Mr Grayson Stole Me From My Abusive Husband-Chapter 342: The Truth Always Resurfaces
William snatched the pictures off the table and carefully tucked them into his duffel bags.
"Try and hide it all you want, but the truth always resurfaces. You really had the whole family fooled, acting all prim and proper." Maverick cocked a grin. "Is that why none of the arranged marriages worked out? I wonder what uncle Edward would say if he knew of his son’s screwed up taste."
William gritted his teeth, "I’m already leaving. We’re leaving this country together. Don’t bother me anymore, and I won’t do anything to you." His last sentence sounded threatening.
Maverick raised a brow, "And what could you possibly do to me?"
No hesitation in his voice, he said. "I can screw Anna over, the same way you did Zelda."
His cousin clenched his jaw. "Is that supposed to be funny? I didn’t screw Zelda over-"
"You and Thane were entrusted by aunt Cressida to watch over her daughter. Yet, you got her kicked out of the family by grandfather, isn’t that the textbook example of screwing the fuck up?"
It was rare to hear William swear.
Maverick got up and grabbed William by the collar, "Watch your tone, I can still ruin your faction of the family."
He grabbed onto his wrist, "Likewise. Don’t think I’m oblivious to Anna’s indulgence."
"You’re crazy-"
"It’s the truth. And I wonder how grandfather would react if he knew his granddaughter was a druggie." William narrowed his eyes at Maverick’s hand, quietly yet imposingly telling him to fuck off.
His cousin got the message, loud and clear. This wasn’t a blackmailing situation, it was a fucking compromise.
To protect Anna, and his family’s reputation, he was going to keep his mouth shut about William’s actual lover.
The waiter at the club.
He sighed, releasing him. "I understand." He raised his hands in defeat, "It seems I underestimated you dear cousin." his smile did not reach his eyes.
William slung the strap of his bag on his shoulder, then said before leaving, "Much more than you even realize."
***********
Justin hissed at the moldy stains on the wall in the one bedroom-no, this hellhole couldn’t pass for that. He had promised himself never to come back to this place, he’d start a new life mooching off Sadie and her wealthy boyfriend.
But he was shit at life, and found himself back at square one.
"Took you long enough! I was starting to think you wouldn’t come back." Justin hissed, as he watched Jen walk through the front door.
She dropped a brown paper bag next to the sparse supplies sitting on the table.
He got off the bed, making a squeak, then marched through the hollow floorboard. His eyes peeked into the paper bag, at the bundles of cash inside.
"Is that all?"
She nodded. "My life savings, and the money from selling the old stuff left behind at my apartment."
With everything going on with Ethan online, she figured she could slip into her old apartment and snatch up the money she had kept.
Her last resort if things ever got unbearable.
"Is this seriously all of it?" He looked genuinely stunned and concerned.
She muttered under her breath, "The larger sum was spent bailing you out of prison."
"This isn’t going to last us long, I give it a week at best, if we’re being frugal." Justin asserted.
"A month." She inserted, her eyes stern.
He hissed, "I don’t need this bullshit! I only contacted you because I wanted to get to Ethan Halton."
She flinched at the name, but managed to cover up her shock. "And I told you, I’ll make the meeting happen, but not until you tell me the leverage you have on him."
Jen found it strange when she got a sudden call a while back from a number demanding an audience with Ethan. She wouldn’t have given the caller the time day had he not claimed to have leverage over Ethan.
Justin snorted, "I don’t get it. You’re his secretary, aren’t you? I remember you from that meeting with him. Your card was my only way to contact him once the job was done."
She picked up the paper bag and knelt down by the bed. She peeled open a floorboard, revealing a wooden box. She reached into her blouse, pulled out the key and unlocked the box. 𝗳𝚛𝗲𝕖𝕨𝕖𝗯𝚗𝚘𝕧𝕖𝗹.𝗰𝗼𝕞
Tucking the money neatly into the box, she said, "I’m surprised you kept my card over all that time."
He scoffed, "I keep contacts that benefit me. I would’ve called Luther, but he’s in a shittier state than me." He turned around, facing her. "That damned bastard, after working me like a dog, he had the nerve to go into hiding without compensating me."
"You’re truly shameless. You worked as a lackey for Luther, the same person who kept your sister in a slave contract." She pointed out, heavily disgusted with him.
It wasn’t until seeing him in prison, that Jen remembered him. He stood out because he was the youngest hire Luther had for her boss, Ethan.
At the time, Jen didn’t know what Ethan needed these hires for, she only knew that Luther pimped them out, and was heavily compensated by her boss, Ethan.
They never had a direct contact link to Ethan, all orders and discussions went through her. She figured, it was a way to make sure nothing was traced back to Ethan.
He was ruthless, but he wasn’t completely reckless.
"I don’t need you acting as the morals police. You bailed me out of prison because you had ulterior motives, am I right?" He flattened the lines on his forehead.
She closed the box and locked it with the key. "I’ll get you the meeting you want with Ethan, I swear it. But first," she got off her knees. "You have to let me know the leverage you’re planning on using against him."
He sneered. "I’ll show Ethan myself-"
She shook her head. "Ethan isn’t a man of many words. If your leverage isn’t as lethal as you think," her tone dropped, "He won’t hesitate to deal with you...permanently."
