Chapter 813: To See Ones Arrogance

Asmodeus couldn’t help but watch nervously, his muscles tense and heart racing the moment the two massive abilities clashed. The explosive force was so great that it destroyed both the training field and half the forest from which they viewed the battle.

His lips curved into a broad smile, even though the expenses to repair this would likely come from his private wine collection.

’They’ve both honed themselves so much in my absence.’

Although there was something that irritated him a little.

He’d asked the women not to injure each other, but that last attack clearly carried both women’s desire to kill the other. It was a fatal blow. No matter how generous

Asmodeus was with his wives.

Punishment was in order.

Not because he was drunk on power and authority, but because their children were watching this fight and the moment the two attacked with such a visible intent. It was clear the children would also grasp its meaning.

Nyxielle and Lith both clung to him as they watched the fight.

Meanwhile, Sylwen buried their face in Gretel’s long dress, unable to watch entirely.

He considered rushing into the middle and interrupting the fight, but a soft hand pressed down on his palm.

"It’s okay, Darling," Serena spoke with a calming tone. "Believe in them, I know it seems bad, but there is hardly any blood."

"I know, but—?!"

Before he could finish, Serena sealed his mouth with a faint peck, her sweet breath soothing the violent rage inside him like a mystical force. "The reason they’re clashing so intensely is all my fault. I have been too confident in my powers and didn’t face the other women properly."

"What do you mean?"

Asmodeus stopped dealing with the women and their arguments from the moment Serena descended before taking Lumeria. He lacked the information about the subtle events or words spoken at the regular meetings between his wives.

"In the past, I was too arrogant, wanting to become the most important woman, and forced them to seal their emotions to get along. It worked well when my powers greatly surpassed theirs, but as the women grew stronger, I stagnated.

So, of course, the naive magic I used back then would come undone.

My hold over their intense emotions of anger, irritation, and bitterness weakened."

He listened to Serena’s confession without interrupting her once, no matter how much he wished to shout, the churning pressure in his chest growing to a boiling point. It was like he’d swallowed a searing iron ball.

"Why would you do that to your fellow wives?" Finally, squeezing out a question with the calmest voice possible, he stared into Serena’s captivating eyes.

"At the time you were stretched to the limits, several of us became pregnant while others still waited for such a wonderful blessing." Serena started with a strong, passionate tone. "But with all the hormones, how could more than ten women accept the situation of sharing a man so easily, especially when they weren’t pregnant?!"

’Ah...’

Somehow, Asmodeus couldn’t deny that.

He thought back to the times in the elven forest, before reaching the demon empire and struggling in the Beast Empire, too.

’Even as far back as Baltimore... there should have been signs of trouble.’

That’s when he took the time to realise the truth, and each time their emotions came close to erupting like a volcano, Serena would take action.

She used whatever means necessary to calm the women...

All for Asmodeus’s sake.

Though he couldn’t help but realise it was also for Serena’s sake at the same time. He chose to ignore that small point and focused on the good she’d done, rather than how selfish and manipulative it was.

"I understand."

Asmodeus surely couldn’t punish them if this were the reason their emotions and complaints hadn’t surfaced until now.

He thought back to the intense loneliness and lack of confidence Ciela showed in the palace. The way she begged for physical intimacy as if she didn’t know how else to connect with him.

’It isn’t just Serena, I too have a large part in this problem.’

Despite satisfying their sexual urges and desires, there were other aspects they hadn’t considered in the past few years.

’What a fool I’ve been...’

Nevertheless, recently he could say he’d realised this, and since meeting Nerim, his actions and the way he interacted with his waives had changed.

But the underlying issue which drove them this far was him, not the two women showing their earnest emotions.

So even though he could sense their dwindling energies and see through the smog as the two fought with simple magic.

He didn’t stop them.

’This is a chance for them to break through their difficult walls, and when it’s over, I can only apologise and offer them whatever reimbursement they desire.’

"Thanks, Serena."

His mind returned to the soft hand squeezing his shoulder.

"Darling?"

He placed his hand over hers and smiled back at her. No longer seething with rage, he found the pressure in his chest dissipated naturally, as if a joke.

"I should have given you more support as my Empress."

He couldn’t help but feel his stomach drop as her eyes enlarged while full of tears.

How much pressure and burden had he placed on these delicate shoulders, desperate to hold his empire steady?

’What a foolish man.’

"From now on, I will accept all of your emotions, whether they be beautiful or ugly. There’s no need to vilify yourself to make me happy, Serena."

"A-Aren’t you mad?"

"Why would I be?

You’ve all done and endured so much having such a foolish spouse like me."

Asmodeus gripped her hand, squeezing gently, before yanking her into his lap, letting her fall into his lap after Nyxielle ran off to play with Seris and Lith.

Serena curled up without a word, resting her head on his chest.

The resounding thud of his three hearts beating in her ears like a thunderclap.

At the same time, Asmodeus watched the massive plume of smoke and debris with a smile. He saw the intense desires of his wife, who kept fighting with him, avoiding intimacy and causing him great worry.

’I thought she was going to flee...’

However, thanks to Ciela’s selfish desire to remain close to him, he also caught a glimpse into Vinea’s mind, a tiny little peek at her true emotions.

The truth was that she was crazy about him, but jealous of his other wives.

He would have to heal those feelings slowly over time, in ways that would help Vinea realise how important her existence was to him.

Ciela, on the other hand, impressed him in another way.

Her determination, use of strength, and, despite being significantly weaker.. For her to push through an almost mortal wound. Then snatch victory, only to modestly choose the route that led to peace with Vinea.

"It looks like they’ve finished." He muttered.

"Eh?" 𝓯𝙧𝙚𝒆𝙬𝙚𝒃𝙣𝙤𝒗𝓮𝓵.𝙘𝙤𝙢

The smoke gradually cleared, revealing two figures standing close together.

Serena fluttered her lashes as she opened her sleepy eyes.

However, once both women were clearly visible, her jaw dropped. The two women were covered in blood, pale and barely standing. If not for the fact that Asmodeus remained calm, Serena might’ve panicked, thinking the pair had died.

"Sorry, honey, but I have to go to them."

Asmodeus lifted Serena before placing her down beside him.

He hopped to his feet, and with a simple tap on the ground, his body shot forward, propelled by immense force.

Ciela and Vinea’s bright eyes focused on him the moment he rushed at them, their bodies tattered and full of wounds. The pair recoiled ever so slightly the moment he stood a few inches away from them both.

Eagerly awaiting his first words.

The moment he saw both women’s shoulders quiver upon his appearance, Asmodeus’s chest ached as if someone had grabbed his heart and twisted it.

He spread his arms as wide as possible and wore the warmest smile.

"Forgive me, I have been so blind and didn’t see how much you were both suffering."

Asmodeus didn’t speak further; he just let out his honest feelings in this moment. Though he could blame himself further, he felt that he could wait.

The two beautiful women blinked several times, their lips parting and closing.

He could feel their desire to speak, shout or even scream and yet nothing happened.

A moment passed.

The moment that felt like an eternity.

"See, I told you he’s a fool." Ciela’s voice came first, with a slight chuckle while shaking.

"Mhm, we should’ve just told him from the start, huh?"

He alternated between their faces, unsure how they might react, but this wasn’t necessary as the two women flew towards him.

Ciela clung to his right arm and opened her mouth wide and bit him. She bit so hard, her teeth sank into his flesh, breaking the surface. Vinea, on the other hand, clung to his chest and muttered "Idiot... fool... bastard... pervert...." over and over under her breath.

Asmodeus could only bitterly smile at Velvet, who watched the three of them.

"Yes, yes, it’s all my fault. I am the one who made you all suffer."

With this duel, he felt things shift.

The stagnation inside the palace, his other wives now watching Ciela and Vinea’s intense emotions, which each one of them had kept hidden under the surface until this moment.

Soon, he would face the consequences of his arrogance.

But as their husband, and the master of a harem, it was something he should’ve been doing from the start, without relying on Serena’s abilities.

It was time to take responsibility.
