Demonic Skeleton God-Chapter 101: Wave of Calm
Chapter 101: Wave of Calm
Flain stood there blankly for a moment before the light returned to his eyes and he shook his head.
"What just happened?" he mumbled drowsily.
Then reality hit him, and he stepped back in fear, looking around for the book and the chest, but there was nothing anywhere. Flain sighed in relief and thought that maybe he had imagined it, or it had been a hallucination from exhaustion.
Flain returned to mining, but suddenly he noticed something was different. Something in his mind had changed — something that shouldn’t have been there.
Flain focused on that feeling, and suddenly the same book appeared in front of him, except now it seemed to be made of light blue aura.
Flain flinched again and stepped back, although it wasn’t as scary now since he was slowly getting used to these paranormal things.
Flain approached it because he wanted to see if it was dangerous, since it wasn’t really doing anything — just levitating in front of him. Flain got closer and tried to grab it, but his hand passed through the book.
Flain began to examine the book and found out that he could flip through its pages whenever he wanted. He also discovered he could read from it without ever having learned how to read, and without even knowing what writing was.
Flain quickly returned to mining afterward because he didn’t want to get caught by a guard not working. He didn’t know what that thing was, but it seemed harmless and mysterious, and Flain found it quite interesting.
Flain began experimenting with the book. He could summon and dismiss it whenever he wanted, and no one else could see it — only he could read it at any time.
Flain immersed himself in the book and read it constantly. What was written inside was beyond human comprehension and very difficult to explain.
It took Flain a long time to really begin to understand it. You could say it changed his life and greatly increased his intelligence.
But he still didn’t understand most of the book’s concepts, and it was so complex that he probably wouldn’t understand it even in a lifetime. And since trying to understand those concepts gave him unbearable headaches, he promised himself he would study it further later.
After studying the book, he learned one interesting ability: he could calm all beings, including himself, within a 50-meter radius and erase their thoughts so that no negative ones remained. Flain could use this once per week.
---
Until now, Flain had pushed that ability to the back of his mind, thinking it wouldn’t be useful.
[You have discovered within yourself a forgotten skill: Wave of Calm.]
"Wave of Calm!" Shouted Flain in anger.
In front of Flain, the same translucent book appeared from which he had studied in his native world.
Then, from Flain’s feet, an enormous pale blue misty wave spread out, reaching up to 50 meters. What Flain felt couldn’t be described in any other way — it was as if he were in heaven.
He felt like he had just received the best massage; an incredible peace flowed through his body, and his mind was completely clear. It was as if he had been reborn into heaven. But it didn’t numb him — he was still fully aware.
A faint smile appeared on Flain’s face as he looked at the illusion of his mother.
Flain walked carefreely through the silhouette of his mother and continued onward.
Flain kept walking without concern, but then he felt something. He heard his own bones crack, then the whisper of his own organs, begging for mercy. As if he were not a skeleton, but flesh and blood—naked and vulnerable.
Flain knew that if he believed those sounds, his journey would end. But of course, Flain didn’t believe them—how could organs whisper? Only a madman would believe such a thing.
Flain kept walking carefreely. Behind him, he noticed a shift in the intensity of the hallucinations — fire suddenly erupted at the front of the corridor and tore through his real mental space.
The pain of his mental nerves turned into pure destruction of perception — his brain should’ve been paralyzed, yet Flain walked forward calmly, as if nothing was happening, as if he were just on a morning stroll.
He continued onward. He sensed how the flames of hallucination weakened — their power had no effect on his skeleton, which was no longer bound to life.
He peacefully walked the last five meters and saw at the end of the corridor a dim arc of light. Flain felt through its frequency that this was the completion point of the 9th floor — unknown, without echo, just a silent point through which one could pass. Flain placed his hands on the cold stone of the arch’s frame.
A loud rumble sounded from the ground, and long spiral stairs rose from it, leading to the final 10th floor.
The 9th floor would have been very difficult, and Flain probably would have failed several times had it not been for Wave of Calm.
Now only the final 10th floor remained, and Flain expected much from it. He wasn’t even slightly stressed — only calm and focus flowed through his mind.
Flain also realized that Wave of Calm is a very useful skill in battle, because when only calm and focus remain in his mind, there’s no room for anything else — meaning his mind would be completely concentrated. The only big drawback is that it can only be used once per week.
Anyway, Flain felt that the effect of Wave of Calm was fading, so he estimated its duration to be a maximum of 3 minutes.
When Flain has some EXP saved up, it would be worth investing it into Wave of Calm for a longer effect. He thought he should check the description to better understand it.
