Demonic Skeleton God-Chapter 110: Lion’s Endurance
Chapter 110: Lion’s Endurance
Flain joined Flor and Itai because he wanted to ask Flor something.
"That green ring I have on my hand strengthens poison-based attacks. So I wanted to ask if there’s a poison affinity and whether it’s taught at the academy," Flain asked.
"It is taught. If you want, I’ll show you where," Flor said with a smile.
"Hey Flain, that Third Eye teacher was really something. Even though I don’t focus on close combat, so senses aren’t as essential for me as for a warrior, I still found it interesting. I was thinking about what kind of magic you and I would choose, since necrotic isn’t forbidden here. I liked dark. Poison doesn’t sound bad either, but I’m leaning more toward dark," Itai chimed in.
"Poison affinity is the most advantageous for me since it’ll be much stronger than other types because of the ring. So my choice was clear," Flain explained.
For the next twenty minutes, they walked and talked. Flor showed him the poison affinity class. There was a symbol of a drop of poison by the door so that students could navigate easily.
Flain didn’t just talk to Flor and Itai, but also to other students with powerful parents, since having them all think well of him and building good relationships would be key for his future.
Many also asked Flain how he managed to get such a highly ranked room, and Flain would just grab his head and blame it on luck. He played the perfect average student with lucky jewelry.
The first official duels and bets were already underway at the academy. Mostly it was because students didn’t like each other, or a student with one number lower challenged the one above. But no one from the top ten rooms had fought yet, and still hadn’t, so official duels currently had nothing to do with Flain’s interests.
If someone strong were to fight, Flain would definitely go watch, since he needed to know what kind of people he’d be facing in the future to improve his position.
The student from room number 30 hadn’t challenged Flain yet, but even if he did, Flain would simply refuse.
Twenty minutes passed, and Flain was looking for a crowd of students to find his classroom. He managed to do so and entered one of the standard academy classrooms, once again sitting next to Flor and Itai.
When everyone was seated, a professor began to enter through the door. A tall, burly figure dressed in heavy leather resembling lion claws. He had silver-gray hair flowing like a spiderweb and deep sapphire eyes.
He stepped onto the platform and began to speak, his voice deep and gravelly. "Greetings. I am Makrim Grodon, the teacher of Lion’s Endurance, which I will be teaching you. It draws inspiration from the legends of the Ancient Lion Brothers, who managed to survive a three-month winter without food or sleep," he said, scanning all the students with narrowed eyes to make sure everyone was paying attention.
The classroom was completely silent — the man emitted a powerful and intimidating aura.
One student looked uncertainly at his neighbor. As children of nobility, they had seen many fascinating people, yet they still felt the adrenaline. This man was able to command immense respect from them with just a fraction of his presence.
Professor Makrim fell silent for a moment and ran his hand through his silver hair, which shimmered in the candlelight like a spiderweb frozen in morning frost. His deep voice once again broke the silence.
"Lion’s Endurance is based on three main pillars: breathing techniques, physical endurance, and resistance to extremes. First, we’ll go over a basic breathing pattern that will allow you to regenerate muscles and maintain full strength even through a ten-day storm..." he began.
"Now, I’ll show you the very basics. First are the breathing techniques," Makrim said.
He took a deep breath and moved his hand around as if gathering invisible air. "Inhale slowly through the nose into the stomach, feel the pressure on your diaphragm. Hold your breath for three seconds... exhale quickly through the mouth, but without tension in the throat," he explained.
The students clumsily mimicked his movements, some nervously placing their hands at the base of their ribs to follow the rhythm, others staring at the ceiling as if searching for air.
"The second phase is static holding. Lie down on the ground and slowly raise your legs to a 45° angle," he said.
Makrim motioned to a brave volunteer to demonstrate what he meant. The young man tried to hold the position – after ten seconds, Makrim helped adjust his posture with a hand.
"In this position, you feel pressure on the lower abdominal muscles and the hip joints. That’s exactly what we need – to build an unyielding body that won’t give in even after a month without sleep," Makrim instructed.
"The third pillar. We’ll do a small test. Each of you will apply ice water to your wrists," Makrim ordered a servant to pour a bowl of ice in front of the row of students.
The icy chill trickled down their arms – some flinched their shoulders, others gritted their teeth and clenched their hands to keep their skin calm, and some remained still, their bodies not trembling in the slightest.
The professor closely observed their expressions: "Do not move your hands, do not exhale involuntarily. Let the adrenaline reach your muscles directly," he commanded.
Flain did it as well and pretended to panic, but in truth, it didn’t affect him at all – he was a skeleton, temperature had no effect on him whatsoever.
Meanwhile, a quiet storm of whispers spread – some exchanged experiences at the edges of their desks, others tried to suppress the trembling in their upper bodies.
"Of course, these are only the basic techniques, and in the future we’ll learn much harsher and more devious ones. But for now, this will suffice," said Makrim.
Many students now liked him very much, even though he didn’t act much like a refined noble – which was precisely why some didn’t like him. The reason some admired him was that he had a naturally firm, commanding leadership presence that he made clear to everyone.
The end of Lion’s Endurance was slowly approaching...
