Demonic Skeleton God-Chapter 130: Flain vs Nafu
Chapter 130: Flain vs Nafu
Flain was walking through the center. On the right side of the fountain with the golden statue of the Emperor of Light, there was a board with papers pinned to it. That was what Flain was looking for.
Quests were divided into three categories: easy, average, and hard. Each quest contained a reward, an approximate penalty for failure, the number of people required, and the estimated time it would take.
Flain was surprised that the recommended Stage wasn’t listed. But he guessed that in the first year, everyone had roughly similar strength within their respective difficulty, so easy quests would be for rooms 100 to 60, average for 60 to 30, and hard from 30 to 1.
So Flain focused on the hard quests. The one with the lowest reward offered 30 Mana Crystals, and the one with the highest offered 350 Mana Crystals.
Flain focused on the one with the highest reward. In short, Flain was supposed to act as a bodyguard, guarding a dangerous prisoner with a group transporting him through the area of the Cursed Swamps, where they would be constantly attacked by monsters, and he would have to kill them on the move while collecting their corpses, which, when sold, would bring a nice bonus.
Completing the quest would take up to 3 months, and the estimated penalty for failure was 500 Mana Crystals, which was quite a big risk. Flain decided not to choose this one; although the reward was big, 3 months was far too long. He came to the academy to study, not to earn money—that was his second priority. freeweɓnøvel~com
So Flain searched the hard category for a good quest that had a good reward and could be completed quickly. One in particular immediately caught his eye.
The student must travel to the hill of the White Stream and kill lightning tigers there, then bring back their lightning mana cores. For each mana core, 10 mana crystals were paid. This was perfect. With Aran and Ivy, it should be fast enough, and on top of that, it would strengthen them because they would have something from which to absorb souls.
Anyway, Flain didn’t know how long it would take to collect a large number of cores, and the estimated time was half a day, which could be more or less for Flain. More because he wants a large number of cores, and less because he has two helpers with him.
Tomorrow he had an official duel and didn’t want to miss it, so he would accept the quest after it. He just hoped no one would steal it from him in the meantime.

Flain’s official duel started at 16:35, right after Steel Strength. Flain hurried to the back of the academy where several arenas were located. He walked up the important stairs and entered the one where his match was to take place.
It was a large arena with a floor made of brown stone, suitable for these kinds of duels. Above, there were many seats where students sat, watching the match either for fun or to make sure the student they had bet Mana Crystals on would win.
Flain stood on the opposite side of his opponent, who had a mace ready in his hands. Flain looked up. It seemed quite a lot of students had come to watch them because word had spread about his unofficial match with Cru.
Opposite him stood Nafu – a student of similar height, dressed in the academy’s standard uniform. In his hands, he held a large mace which he would use to fight. The air between them was tense, the spectators shouted their final words of encouragement, mana betting cards nervously played with behind backs.
At the top stood the referee. "The official duel between Eran Girflodor and Nafu Randamu may begin!" he shouted.
Nafu didn’t hesitate and rushed at Flain, and their weapons clashed. Flain felt a surge of shadow energy rushing at him from Nafu’s mace; before it landed, he timed a step to the side perfectly and raised his right sword. The blade slashed through the stream of black smoke, which shattered in a crack of energy, and Flain was surrounded by a dense veil of shadows.
Flain instantly knew what Nafu was trying to do, turned around, and just in time blocked Nafu’s mace that was flying toward his neck. Flain took the opportunity and slashed Nafu in the chest with his other sword, causing Nafu to withdraw from Flain.
"Those 45 Mana Crystals will be mine," Nafu growled, clearly surprised that Flain had seen through his intentions in advance.
Flain didn’t wait even a fraction of a second and immediately launched his first attack while Nafu’s attention was diverted. Flain leapt into the air and landed right next to Nafu, beginning a relentless barrage of slashes.
Nafu reflexively spun his mace, covering his chest and blocking, but the impacts were so strong that they jolted his arm. His whole body was wet with streaming blood, and the inside looked even worse.
"What do you think you can do here? Beat me? That would be the biggest smile of your life," Flain muttered with a smirk.
Nafu swung his mace – the blade sliced through the air, paced to an offensive rhythm, and met Flain’s swords exactly.
Nafu stepped one pace closer, his face tense. "I will win... no matter the cost."
Nafu focused a spell into the mace, and suddenly a thick wall of shadows spread out in front of him, covering the area between them in an instant.
Nafu took a deep breath and shouted, "Sheremanta!"
Flain looked at him like he was crazy. Was he losing it because he couldn’t win? Or was it meant to disrupt Flain’s focus? If so, it didn’t work, because Flain was always largely focused.
Nafu swung his mace aggressively, and suddenly shadowy apparitions emerged from the wall – black limbs that tried to grab Flain by the legs. One even succeeded and scratched Flain hard on the leg.

Flain sliced through the air with both blades at once, cutting the shadowy apparitions to dust, while his tail extended forward and the tip stabbed into the ground, giving him extra stability.
With one powerful push, he shot forward – his swords spinning like blade wheels.
The strike landed on Nafu’s shield, which he had just conjured from shadows, with such force that it caused a crack in the dark barrier. Nafu blinked as the dust cleared, and Flain was already standing above him, shattered pieces of the magical wall on his chest.
Flain laughed inwardly – it had been a long time since he had played around in battle with anyone, so after a while, it felt amazing...
