Demonic Skeleton God-Chapter 73: Voice in the Head
Chapter 73: Voice in the Head
Ghosty flew after them, examined them thoroughly, and then returned to Flain.
"Well, Itai is all wrapped up in bandages and can barely walk, and Zheren’s armor is just a bit damaged," said Ghosty.
’Maybe they were attacked by some really strong monster in a dungeon, and some adventurers saved them. But then why does Zheren have only slightly damaged armor? If he had fought something stronger than himself, his armor would be way more destroyed,’ Flain thought.
’Or maybe Itai was alone and some maniac attacked him, and Zheren managed to save him at the last second. Either way, I think a trap is the least likely scenario,’ Flain concluded.
Itai, with Zheren at his side, came down to the basement where Flain was. Aran became alert, ready to strike for his king at a moment’s notice.
"Where were you?" Flain asked.
Itai then explained in detail what had happened to him—about Flor, his family, and the things he had learned from him.
"Hmm, interesting," Flain murmured. freēwēbηovel.c૦m
"Anyway, be careful with Flor. It’s suspicious that he’s being so friendly with you, especially since he grew up as a noble’s child. Sure, you have an A talent and he might be doing it to maintain a good relationship with you, but there are worse possibilities. In any case, try to get as close to him as you can," Flain said.
"Honestly, I’m not sure whether I should escape from the Empire of Light or stay here. But for now, we’re staying—I’ve decided," Flain announced.
"When you say we’re staying... what does that actually mean? Do we have a plan, or are we just waiting?"
Flain turned to him. "It means we’re going to continue growing. For now, they’re leaving us alone. The Overseer doesn’t seem to care about that book of his, since he still hasn’t confronted you. You also need to figure out if Flor wants to use you for something.
"I kinda like that. I’m fine with this routine. But what if they find out you’re..." Itai started, but Flain cut him off.
"Undeath? Immortal? An enemy of the Empire?" Flain finished for him. "There’s no way for them to find out—unless you mess something up," he said.
"I won’t let you down," Itai said, and they headed into the Dungeon—he had a routine to reestablish.
----
Another month passed. Itai and Zheren continued with their routine, gained wealth, and kept getting stronger.
Flor and Itai had become very good friends, spending time together regularly. Even Flor’s brothers had stopped attacking Itai. Other than how overly friendly Flor was, Itai hadn’t noticed anything suspicious—except for one detail.
Flor avoided having Zheren over at his home. Every time Itai went to visit Flor, he would ask him to come alone, without Zheren. Most of the time, he made excuses like Zheren’s size giving off a strong presence, which could provoke Hikaru into attacking him again.
Honestly, Flain didn’t buy that excuse. Giving off a strong presence comes from magical energy, and Zheren still emits it constantly since he’s nowhere near Stage 6.
Flor didn’t come across to Itai as the kind of person who would be jealous of Zheren for always being with him. Moreover, he didn’t act hostile toward him at all.
Flain had made great progress in the creation of his spell, estimating it would be completed within a month. At first, the spell would be useless, but later it would become very useful.
Also, the Overseer had already confronted Itai about forgetting to return the book. Itai, however, said he had lost it, which she didn’t believe. That worsened their relationship significantly, but for that book, it was worth it. From what Itai had told him, Flain doubted the Overseer was the type of person who would kill him or do anything bad to him over it.
Since Itai’s undead army constantly trained in the villa, they had grown much stronger. In fact, two new Stage 2 zombies had evolved. Flain remembered those two—they were the generals who guarded the gate of dungeon 31. Back then, they were no obstacle to him because they were Advanced Stage 1 and Flain was Mid Stage 2, so he easily defeated them.
The first one evolved into the same kind of zombie as Steward—muscular with two heads—but the second evolved into a different type. He had a tall, slender body, and instead of arms, he had two long blades fused with his forearms. He looked quite powerful. Still, both were only Early Stage 2.
Flain had a total of 956,000 EXP and 499 Evolution Shards and was just waiting for the last one. Whether an Evolution Shard drops from a monster is completely random, so Flain could be unlucky, and none of the monsters those two killed would drop one, meaning he’d have to wait until the next day to evolve and reach Stage 3.
’This body doesn’t belong to you.’ a strange voice echoed in his head.
"Shut up, it’s mine," Flain muttered.
"My king, is there something I can do for you?" said Aran, noticing Flain had muttered something.
"No, keep training," Flain replied.
Over the past month, it had randomly started happening that a strange voice echoed in his mind, always saying that his body didn’t belong to him. Honestly, Flain was getting annoyed by it. It always said something like "Get out of my body," or "Why are you controlling my body?" And whenever Flain tried to communicate with it, it never responded.
Flain had absolutely no idea why this was happening. He doubted he was going insane. Sure, he had a human mind, but he saw no reason why or how he would go insane.
Moreover, the claim that the body didn’t belong to him had no connection to him whatsoever. If, for example, the dead voices of people he had killed were begging him not to kill them, he might consider the possibility of going mad—but even then, he wouldn’t understand why. He had no remorse for killing them—they meant literally nothing to him; they were just walking EXP.

"It’s about time," Flain muttered, and his purple eyes glowed with excitement...
