Demonic Skeleton God-Chapter 81: Transparent Wings
Chapter 81: Transparent Wings
Flain’s purple jealous flames in his eye sockets lit up; he had done it. He finally connected the last dot and had just finished his first spell.
Dimension X suddenly disappeared around him, and he appeared in his basement.
[Please name your spell.]
Flain thought for a moment about what would suit his spell. "Transparent Wings," said Flain.
[You have created the spell: Transparent Wings.]
Flain immediately went to level it up to level 10 to have it in the best version he could currently achieve. Leveling up Stage 1 skills cost Flain only a negligible amount anyway.
[Transparent Wings lvl: 1 -> level 10]
"Transparent Wings," said Flain with a smirk.
Ghosty, who was observing Flain from the wall, was pulled toward Flain by an extreme force. Ghosty flew toward Flain and passed through his entire body, ending up on his back.
There, he formed into majestic large bony transparent wings. Yes, this was the spell Flain had created. Flain wanted a flying spell because it would give him a great advantage for escape, and he could also quickly and unnoticed bypass someone by flying high into the air and over them.
When Flain was creating Transparent Wings, he ran into the problem that it would cost an extreme amount of mana for Flain, who was not a mage, so he came up with the idea that Ghosty could become his wings.
But it was easier said than done. Flain spent most of his time refining this part, and it was the hardest section. But in the end, he managed it. Since Ghosty cannot be seen by anyone except Flain, the wings also would not be visible to anyone else but Flain.
Flain might not look cool to others with them, but this brought another advantage — that Flain could have them constantly activated and could quickly fly away. That is, if he would not need Ghosty for something else.
However, it also brought a major drawback due to the spell being only Stage 1. For Flain, the flying speed was very slow, about 4 times slower than Flain’s running. But Flain could fly above the clouds where no one would see him, so he could still escape from enemies who were faster than his flight.
"Hey Flain, what the hell is this?! What happened to me and why can’t I move?!" came the angry voice from the wings.
"You’ll get used to it," Flain snapped back.
Flain allowed Ghosty to speak, but if he annoyed him, he could just as easily silence him — another function he had added into his spell.
The bony wings began to flap, and Flain floated in the air, flew around the basement a little, and then landed. As he expected, it was very slow for him, but he still had a smile on his face. It was a great feeling to have created something like this, but it still didn’t even come close to the feeling when Flain got stronger.
"Will you explain it to me?" Ghosty asked again.
"At the moment, you are my wings whether you like it or not. Don’t bother me or I’ll even disable your ability to speak," said Flain.
Ghosty wisely stayed silent; at the moment, he felt like some kind of slave, which he didn’t like at all.
Flain pulled out his Night Communicator and called Itai. "It’s time," he said when Itai accepted the call.
Flain was excited — finally, after more than half a year, he could leave the city and block it off. It was an amazing feeling of freedom.
Flain waited outside for Itai, and he arrived together with Flor. "I came to see you off," said Flor with a smile.
Flor knew that Itai and Flain were leaving for some time. Flain had told him long ago that he planned to do it once he finished that spell.
"So, you’ve finished that spell? Show me," exclaimed Flor.
Flain felt a bit paranoid, but he shook it off. He spread his bony wings and flew into the air.
Mortals passing by stared at Flain, but then quickly looked away. They thought Flain was a mage of the Empire, and if he didn’t like their gaze, he could kill them with impunity.
Itai looked at Flain in awe. He had never seen anyone fly before. His admiration for Flain grew even more.
"So it’s a flying spell? Flying spells are very rare, they cost a lot of mana even if they’re only Stage 1, and for you it’s even more since you’re not a mage. How long can you maintain it?" Flor asked.
"Well, it doesn’t use any mana. It uses something else. You see, I didn’t tell you everything, and that thing is Ghosty. Ghosty is an invisible spirit whom I am the master of. Ghosty’s owner becomes whoever buys the villa, but Ghosty releases an aura onto his owner that decays their organs."
"But I’m a skeleton, so I have no organs. Ghosty can’t move more than one kilometer away from me, so I basically gained an invisible spy. Anyway, I used him as the wings for my spell, so it doesn’t consume any mana." Flain decided to tell him about Ghosty.
Flain had told Itai about Ghosty a long time ago. Itai was quite surprised by this and didn’t like the fact that some ghost could observe him without him noticing.
"Hmm, we’re starting, so now we have an invisible spy on our side. Good to see," said Flor with a smile.
"Anyway, take this with you," said Flor and tossed a small coin to Itai.
"When you have this on you, I’ll be able to roughly track your position, and if you get lost and I need you, I’ll be able to guide you back to the Empire of Light," said Flor.
In Flain’s world, such things were used by assassins. The assassin had a special gun that shot tiny particles which had built-in tracking and a camera. When the victim was alone, the assassin could learn this without having to constantly watch the victim and risk exposure.
Anyway, this is a magical world, so Flor tracks their location by the mana it emits. He had previously absorbed a bit of the mana it gave off into his brain, so he could track their location from anywhere.
"Take care," said Flor, waving to them as they left...
