Chapter 88: The first year of the Academy may begin
"Each student must attend at least 3 teachings from professors daily. You may attend lectures for free and can have up to 10 per day. You can also purchase a private lecture from a professor; each professor sets their own price. There are ? types of lectures. The first type of lecture is Magic. At our academy, we offer lectures for nearly every type of affinity, so you should be able to find one for your highest."
"The second type of lecture is Steel Strength, which focuses on training the body beyond your body’s Stage. It also includes weapon training and strategic thinking in combat. The third type of lecture is Third Eye, which focuses on enhancing the senses beyond your body’s Stage. The fourth type is Mind Range, which focuses on increasing intelligence, memory, and logical thinking beyond the Stage of your brain, contributing to faster learning of spells and techniques."
"The fifth type is Lion’s Endurance—breathing exercises, endurance training beyond your body’s Stage, which helps increase resistance to poisons – noble defense against poisoning and fatigue. The sixth and final type of lecture is Iron Will, which focuses on strengthening mental resilience, including self-denial, fasting, battling through pain, and visualization of victory."
"And if you’re wondering why you can’t feel Magic Energy in the Academy, it’s because of the devices attached to your uniforms. This is mainly so that betting on official matches is unambiguous, and to prevent weaker students from constantly losing Mana Crystals. Mana Crystals can also be used to purchase Spells and Techniques in the store," Gown finished.
Most of it made sense to Flain; the quests were very similar to those in the Adventurers’ Guild. They had quests there as well, but Itai didn’t take them because he preferred killing monsters in dungeons.
The types of lectures sounded quite strange and unusual, but Flain figured it must be well-designed if it was taught in the Noble Academy. He planned to try each type of lecture and then decide what was worth spending his time on, although he doubted Iron Will would affect him much since he was confident in his endurance. He had literally trained in his basement nonstop for half a year.
Gown Wigrem seemed to be very powerful, especially since he was the Headmaster of the Academy. Flain wondered what Stage he had. There was a chance he might be able to detect him, since the illusion from the Necklace of Deception was far from perfect.
Flor told Flain that he already had a plan to protect him even if the Empire of Light found out he was an undeath and not the son of a baron at all. Flain was curious how he planned to do that, but guessed Flor always had a solution for everything.
"The first year of the Academy may begin," Gown declared. His tone rose slightly but was still incredibly cold.
After a moment, applause echoed through the hall, and Gown vanished from the podium. Once he was gone, the hall filled with whispers from the students, who began to leave.
Itai and Flor came over to Flain.
"Heh, I really don’t like that headmaster," said Itai nervously, getting goosebumps from him.
"Who is he?" Flain asked Flor.
"The Headmaster of the Noble Academy and also one of the 4 Dukes of the Empire of Light, Gown Wigrem. Probably the least known among the Dukes because he hasn’t created a family yet and doesn’t seem to be planning to. He also doesn’t accept any invitations to parties from other nobles. But we absolutely can’t underestimate him."
"He managed to become the strongest among the strongest, and 5000 years ago, when the Academy was attacked by a horde of Lava Golems, he slaughtered 10,000 of them within moments without a single drop of lava touching his suit. He has an innate ability called Demon Eye of Time, which allows him to predict time and manipulate it slightly—which is extremely powerful on its own," Flor finished.
"And why didn’t he send students or professors to fight those lava golems?" asked Itai.
"That’s simple. Lava golems are incredibly powerful, and even the weakest among them are around Stage 5. No student, no matter how hard they tried, could defeat them and they would’ve just died for nothing. He didn’t send professors because they’re necessary, and if one of them died, a replacement would have to be found and trained."
"Another reason is that lava golems destroy their surroundings heavily, and if they reached the Academy, it would be seriously damaged. That’s why he killed them so quickly. But of course, this is just speculation—we have no confirmation," concluded Flor.
"By the way, where is my room? I’d like to check if it’s suitable," said Flain.
"Probably Gown didn’t mention it because we’re supposed to find out ourselves, but in a bit there will be a competition for rooms. Maybe it sounds strange to you, why rooms would be competed over, but what room you get actually has a significant impact. Each room has a different mana density—the closer to the center of the Academy, the lower the density. So you’ll grow stronger faster. Even though it’s not that massive, the difference between the room with the highest and the lowest density is huge. I don’t know exactly how the competition will be, because it changes every year," explained Flor.
Flain was thinking. Until now, he hadn’t known that mana density even existed. freeweɓnovel~cѳm
"Is mana density different everywhere? Or is it only different in the Academy rooms?" he asked Flor.
"Mana density is different everywhere. That’s why cities are built in specific places where mana density is high. In the Imperial City and its surroundings, the mana density is the highest in the Empire of Light, so almost all nobles have their mansions built near the Imperial City," said Flor.
Flain wondered whether mana density affected how much EXP one could gain. He had already wanted to ask the system if Mana Crystals had any influence on gaining EXP, so now was a good time. If mana density didn’t have an effect, he wouldn’t need to bother getting a good room and he wouldn’t have to worry about where he can train effectively—but he’d miss out on a good bonus. If Mana Crystals had no effect either, that would be even worse...
