Chapter 105: 105:City of Creatures(3)

Raymond gulped, looking down at the ground. A guilty expression on his face, sweat pouring down his back as he kneeled.

"Raymond."

The cause for his current predicament sat on the couch in front of him, lazily lounging as she called him.

"Yes?"

"Why did you leave yesterday?"

Wasn’t this too much of an overreaction!

"I...just wanted to hurry up and go back, so we decided to start early. "

"I see. So you decided to leave me and Noelle alone?"

Ellen always called him childish, but wasn’t she the childish one for arguing with a sixteen year old when she was forty one?!

"I feel like you had a really bad thought about me."

Was she a beast? How come she even managed to read his mind when his face was completely still!

"I just don’t understand why you’re so angry. We just scouted out the area while looking for the lost pet."

"I know the two of you went shopping afterwards."

"!!!"

Raymond’s composure instantly broke as Ellen suddenly dropped a bombshell on him.

"How did you know that??"

"Is that important?"

"Yes."

"Well too bad. I won’t tell you."

Raymond mentally cursed her out.

She sighed,"You even used your modeling money. I was saving it you know? There’s this concert I’ve been wanting to go to..."

The way she referred to Raymond’s money as hers was so natural that even Raymond almost forgot it was his money.

He hastily tried to defend himself, "It was for a good cause! I managed to get Lin Qingyi to agree to help us."

"Mhm. I know. But to think, that you left me alone. With Noelle of all people. So you and Lin could go have fun all by yourselves."

The lab was naturally guarded by several figures, it was unknown whether there were any demon contractors but the likelihood was high. Thus, Raymond and Ellen wanted to recruit the others to help them.

As for calling instructor Sienna. That was like detonating a bomb in both of their faces. But also because Raymond didn’t want to deal with her angry.

If needed, then he would call her but it was unlikely the lab would have any serious defenses.

Raymond already managed to get Lin Qingyi to agree to help by promising to spar with her.

But that wasn’t what Ellen was concerned about.

"How much money did you spend?"

"..."

Seeing him silent, Ellen repeated herself again. Stressing every word this time.

"How. Much. Did. You. Spend."

"Around four thousand."

It wasn’t his fault that he had spent so much! Nearly everything in Mirovia City was unbelievably expensive since it catered to mostly travelers. Before Raymond even realized it, he had already spent most of his savings.

He also did feel a little bit bad, he had said he would try to help her get those tickets before. Which seemed unlikely now.

"Those tickets cost a minimum of eight thousand each..."

Ellen put her head in her hands, despair taking over her as she realized there was no way to get those tickets now.

"Can’t you ask Rayez?"

"You think I haven’t?"

That damn stingy guy. Ellen didn’t need to reply for Raymond to realize what had happened.

***

Today, the four of them were exploring the outskirts of the underground again.

Raymond and Lin Qingyi both lead the way, mainly because the other two kept arguing again and again over the tiniest things imaginable.

It got to the point he really wanted to just shout at them to shut up. But Ellen would probably make him kneel again and he wasn’t about to deal with that.

"Should we ask to swap teammates?"

"Who’s going to willingly swap?"

Their mission was truly a horrible one, if not for Raymond knowing tracking magic. They would probably have never been able to complete it.

They continued moving through the dark cavern. Raymond’s flashlight spell the only thing illuminating their way as he kept following the rough direction his tracking spell lead to.

He couldn’t make it too obvious after all. But it was already their third day so they had to start making some actual progress.

"Stop."

He held up a hand, Ellen and Noelle pausing their argument as they recognized his signal to stay quiet.

Raising his staff, an invisible pulse of mana flew through the air. Bouncing off the walls continuously as it traveled further down.

Raymond closed his eyes, using the returning waves of mana to visualize an image in his head.

"...forty something people. Standing in a circle. They’re cheering. Lots of shouting and stomping."

"An underground fighting ring. Literally."

None of them were surprised.

Mirovia City was the City of Creatures. It wasn’t just a gimmick, they were quite literally built into the city.

Naturally, it had fighting rings. With so many wild beasts around, even if they were domesticated. Plenty still had aggressive tendencies.

But the ones aboveground were too kid-friendly. Fights would be stopped if one side was too injured. With dozens of safety mechanisms for both the animals and the spectators that forced them to hold back their power. Limiting what they could use.

These underground fighting rings however, had none of that. They were pure all out brawls with no strings holding them back. It was either kill or be killed. Spectator deaths were about as common as the death of the creature’s fighting.

"Finally, let’s bust this place down and be done with it already."

Since Raymond’s tracking spell pointed in this direction. The lost pet was almost certainly here.

"Wait. Let’s scout out the place first. What if there’s something unexpected?"

Raymond reached into his dimensional storage, pulling out several cloaks for them to wear.

Noelle couldn’t help but think of how convenient a shadow like Raymond was. Now she really wanted a servant like him as well.

Unfortunately, Raymond’s existence also caused a lot of dissatisfaction with many calling it modern day slavery. So maybe she would have to hold off on that for now.

Making sure the hood covered his striking white hair, Raymond casually morphed his staff into its glove form. It was simply more convenient to hide, and carrying a staff around made it obvious he was a mage.

The others also all hid their weapons one way or another.

Walking through the now smaller cavern, the sounds of cheering soon entered their ears. Despite there not being that many people, their stomps and cheers made it seem like there were hundreds.

A man also dressed in a black cloak abruptly dropped from the ceiling. Landing in front of them with a small thud. Silver talons on each of his fingers and strangely, his shoes as well.

A purple bat hugged his shoulder, Raymond would have found it cute if it weren’t for the few drops of blood still on it.

"Halt. Who are you and why are you here?"

"We’re here to watch of course."

His eyes narrowed slightly in suspicion.

"Show me your identification, and don’t try to lie. Spurp here has poison that will make you wish you were dead."

Ellen let out a small cough. Spurp was an unexpectedly cute name for such a deadly creature.

Except they had bigger problems, all of them were students in the academy. Showing this guy their identification was basically admitting they weren’t here to watch.

Besides, the Grace Family and the Asteria Family were unfortunately famous for not tolerating any illegal activity within the cities they held control over.

Seeing the two names would be enough for him to realize such a thing.

Raymond sighed, this guy in front of them wasn’t emitting a strong aura. Seemingly at the E- rank. With only one level difference, it shouldn’t be difficult for them to beat him.

He suddenly extended his gloved hand. Forming a finger gun with his index and middle finger.

Pointed right at his forehead, he cast his spell immediately.

’Tranquilizer Shot.’

The three behind him immediately sprung into action as well.

The cloaked man tried to dodge, jumping back slightly. Raymond’s spell immediately making him and Spurp drowsy, his movements becoming sluggish already.

Gritting his teeth, the cloaked man stuck his index finger into his thigh. Drawing blood as the adrenaline pushed his grogginess away. As for Spurp, the small thing immediately fell asleep.

Several golden projectiles shone as they aimed for his heart, head and calf all at the same time. Noelle summoning her suit of armor with a flash as she rushed at him.

The masked man held his arm in an x, letting out a grunt as her armoured gauntlet hit him and sent him flying backwards.

Crashing into the wall, Lin Qingyi followed it up with a swift chop to the chest. Her fingers flying as she accurately jabbed him several times over.

Seeing this sight, Raymond couldn’t help but feel bad for the cloaked man.

He didn’t even need to step in. The three were already plenty enough as they mercilessly beat him.

He winced, watching as Noelle landed another uppercut right into his stomach. Making him cough out blood.

"I think that’s enough now guys..."

Either they didn’t hear him, or they pretended not to. Because they continued anyways.

Lin Qingyi hit him with a palm strike. Further pushing him into the wall. Cracks spider-webbing from the person shaped hole in the cavern wall.

"Guys?"

BAM!

POW!

"Ellen? You too?!"
