Destroy Me Gently:Ex-Enemy Becomes My Lover!-Chapter 142: Let’s break up
**KIERAN MORRISON**
I tried to meet his gaze, but he averted his head and took a step to stand beside William.
Fuck.
I wasn’t liking this.
The last thing I wanted was for us to have a fight. Why wasn’t he even saying a word to me?
"I don’t care what you think about me?" William was saying to Vince "We broke up anyway. It was fun while it lasted,"
Vince took another step. "William—"
"Don’t." William backed up. "You’ll look desperate chasing after someone who’s just a nuisance."
I looked at Oliver. He was staring at me with this expression that made my stomach hurt. Was this about the cigarette or he was just trying to be supportive towards his friend?
I was still unsure of how to react when William grabbed Ollie’s arm and they both head back inside the bar while Vince and I watched them like two sore losers.
Back inside the bar, Ollie joined Heath who was learning the act of mixing drinks from Sol.
"I want one," He said and grabbed a bottle from the counter. The one that was straight vodka. I watched in horror as he took a gulp.
"Ollie, don’t take that—" I moved fast, reaching for the bottle.
He shoved my hand away. Hard.
When he looked at me, his eyes were wet. "Stay away from me, Kieran!" He yelled and stumbled away from me.
Fuck.
What was wrong with him? He’d been okay just a few minutes ago, Sol and Heath cast me judgement looks like I’d done something crazy.
The music changed. Something upbeat. Ollie’s head snapped toward the speakers and then at Sol. "Can you raise the volume?"
He still wasn’t looking at me, now my whole body was pricking, I hated it when he ignored me, I wanted to drag him out of here and demand what was wrong, but an instinct told me that would only aggravate whatever situation this was.
"This is our song!" Ollie grabbed William’s hand.
His words were already slurring together. "Can we dance? It’s my party after all, I still want to enjoy it even if it’s already ruined,"
Ruined? Was he saying I ruined it? How?
They moved to the middle of the floor. Heath whooped and followed them, bringing more drinks. He pressed glasses into their hands.
I stood there watching Oliver drink more, my chest lurched each time he stumbled trying to dance. Watching William catch him when he almost fell.
Claude came to stand next to me. He didn’t say anything, his narrowed eyes were on Heath who seemed to be openly flirting with Sol who continued to mix different flavors for him.
Oliver was laughing too loud and leaning on William more and more, much to my frustration.
My fingers clenched into a fist, when
William’s hands went to Oliver’s waist. Oliver’s arms went around William’s neck. They were swaying together, faces close.
No, like hell I was going to let that happen. Ollie was getting too drunk, it was time to fucking stop.
I was across the room before I thought about it. My hand closed around Oliver’s arm and pulled him back.
"We’re leaving." I gritted, annoyance bubbling onto my chest.
"What?" Oliver tried to twist away. "Let go!"
"You’re drunk. Come on."
"Drunk? I’m fine!" He pulled harder against my grip. "And you don’t control everything I do!" He scream at me.
This was it.
I swept him off his feet and hurled him into my arms. He was cursing and kicking, his eyes were burning with something I hadn’t seen in a long time.
Tears.
Anger. 𝐟𝚛𝕖𝚎𝕨𝗲𝐛𝚗𝐨𝐯𝐞𝕝.𝐜𝗼𝗺
Disgust.
Somehow I managed to get him into the car and attached the seat belt even though he was saying that he didn’t want to return home with me.
"Why do you always do this?"
"Do what?"
"Control everything." His words were slurred but angry. "Why does it always have to be exactly how you want it? I’m so tired, Kieran."
My hands gripped the steering wheel tighter. "What are you talking about?"
"Why did you do it Kieran?"
"It was just tonight, I haven’t been smoking the other days..."
"Yeah, I don’t care. Do whatever you want with your life,"
I didn’t know what to say to that. We drove the rest of the way in silence.

Getting Oliver upstairs was hard. He kept insisting he could walk but his legs weren’t working right. Although, a part of me thought that he was purposely resisting because he didn’t want to enter our room.
When we got to my room, I pushed the door opened. I felt Oliver stiffened beside me.
All the presents were there. Wrapped boxes on the bed. Gift bags on the dresser. Everything I’d spent weeks planning.
"I’m sorry." I slowly turned him around to face me to meet his glass eyes. "Tonight wasn’t supposed to be like this. I ruined it, I’m sorry,"
He held my gaze for a few seconds and then he pushed away from me. He walked through the room slowly, looking at each present.
He picked up the signed comic book and tickets to the live action were right next to it.
I waited for him to smile. To look happy and give me anything that said I hadn’t completely ruined everything.
Instead he started crying.
"Oliver?" I moved toward him. "What’s wrong?"
He turned to face me. Tears were running down his face and then he inhaled, and his mouth formed the words that made my entire world freeze.
"Let’s break up."
His words didn’t register at first. He couldn’t mean it.
"What?" I could barely recognize my own voice.
"I said let’s break up." He spoke more firmly this time while staring at me, I could see his decision in those reflective eyes.
My body moved without thinking. I pulled him against me and held on tight. My palms cupped his face while he struggled to step away.
"You’re drunk. You don’t mean that. Let’s just get cleaned up and go to bed. In the morning we can..."I rambled out the words, my lungs burning like all the oxygen in the room had been drained away.
"How self-centered can you be?"
He pushed against my chest with both hands. I stumbled back, not from his strength, but the shock of it all, he wanted to break up, to leave me.
"Don’t you even want to know why?" His voice cracked with tears. "Or are you just going to decide for me that we’re not breaking up? Like you decide everything else?"
"I didn’t—"
"You paid someone to burn my house." He screamed, more tears tricking down his cheeks. "Didn’t you?"
Shock sizzled through me, how did he know that? My throat closed up and a panic I’d never felt before seized me with full force. The sadness in his gaze made my heart clench, but it was nothing compared to my desperation. "We’re not breaking up," My voice shook with with the icy fingers of fear crawling down my spine "Oliver, please. We can figure it out. Just don’t leave me—"
"You don’t get to decide that!"
He grabbed a pillow off the bed. Then yanked the spare blanket from my closet.
"What are you doing?" I followed after him as he headed towards the door.
"Sleeping somewhere else."
"Oliver, wait—"
"Leave me alone."
The door slammed.
I stood there staring at where he’d been. The presents were still on the bed, the tickets were still sitting there.
My legs gave out. I sat down hard on the floor, my vision all blurry and the heavy weight in my heart felt like it would crush me to death.
