Scene change.
"Hey, hey!"
"Mr. Ishimoto?!"
"Whatโs wrong with you!?"
"Clear the way!"
When the photographer Ishimoto Junpei suddenly widened his eyes, tensed up, grabbed his chest, and collapsed, everyone around was startled.
Mouri Kogoro, still a bit groggy from waking up from the sleeping pillโs effect, snapped to attention and rushed forward to check.
Ishimoto Junpei lay on the ground with wide-open eyes, his face twisted in agony, clutching his chest painfully.
After checking, Mouri shook his head.
"Heโs dead."
"...How could this be?"
Everyone was in disbelief.
"Cardiac arrest? Did he have a history of heart disease?" Mouri looked toward Director Mizukawa Masaki.
The latter was puzzled, waving his hands helplessly.
"I donโt know... Weโre all from Nichi-Nichi TV, but today was actually my first time meeting Mr. Ishimoto."
"Maybe Miss Nishitani knows?"
"Whereโs Miss Nishitani?"
"She hasnโt been seen since just now."
Everyone looked around but couldnโt find the female reporter, Nishitani Kasumi.
Assuming sheโd gone to the restroom or found a place to relax, no one worriedโuntil Mouri suddenly noticed something odd around Ishimotoโs waist.
He walked over and lifted his shirt, only to find a gun holstered there.
A bad feeling hit him immediately.
"This isnโt right!"
"Find Nishitani Kasumi quickly!"
When using the Death Note to control the actions of the person whose name is written, it cannot cause the death of a third party; otherwise, the named person will die of cardiac arrest.
In other words, controlling the named person to randomly shoot or run over by car any passerby, or crash a fully loaded plane to kill othersโnone of these are possible.
So, what about writing someone elseโs name on the Death Note through the controlled person?
Hayashi Yoshiki had written in Ishimoto Junpeiโs controlled actions:
[Go to the public lounge on the fourth floor of the airship, walk to the last table, and use the black pen nearby to write the name of the mastermind behind this airship hijacking on the paper.]
Thenโhe failed.
Looking at Ishimoto Junpeiโs actions alone, it was just writing a name.
Yet it still triggered the Death Noteโs judgment of a third-party death.
Though disappointing, it was understandable.
Next came the second subject, Nishitani Kasumi.
[Go to the public lounge on the fourth floor, walk to the last table, use chopsticks and milk as ink to write the mastermindโs name on the paper.]
[Then clean up all traces from the table.]
[Wait for the paper to dry, then bring it to the upper level of the airship and place it in the sky observation deck.]
Under normal conditions, milk can be used as a simple invisible ink.
Milk-written letters are not clearly visible at all, but when later heated, the proteins denature, revealing the writing.
Controlling Nishitani Kasumiโs actions did not cause Fujioka Takamichiโs death, so the result was successful.
Hayashi Yoshiki obtained this page of the Death Note on the sky observation deck.
โAfterwards, all that remained was to write detailed death methods and pre-death behavior control, then use a lighter to reveal the name.
Bang!
...
The last bullet flew out. When Fujioka tried to pull the trigger again but found the gun was empty and jammed, panic spread across his face.
What the hell!?
Unbelieving, Fujioka hurriedly removed the magazine, took out a new one from his pocket, and reloaded.
He aimed at Hayashi Yoshiki again, but when Hayashi Yoshiki calmly approached, Fujiokaโs movements suddenly froze.
Fujiokaโs eyes were fixed tightly on the notebook in Hayashi Yoshikiโs hand.
On the opened pageโlike it was torn out then reinsertedโthe center showed the charred words "Fujioka Takamichi."
What sent chills down his spine was the several paragraphs written below.
Exactly the same...
Everything was the sameโ
From the moment Fujioka appeared before him, his reactions and the fact that no matter how he fired, he couldnโt hit him, all matched exactly what was written!
And what followed:
[After changing magazines, pulling the trigger again causes the handgun to explode, injuring the arm. In panic, fall and roll off the airship into the sea.]
Reading this, Fujioka felt a strange tension crawling up his spine, making his finger on the trigger stiffen involuntarily.
Hayashi Yoshiki watched him mockingly:
"What, afraid to shoot now?"
Fujiokaโs pupils shrank.
"Donโt be ridiculous! This nonsense..."
With a roar as if trying to swallow all emotions, he put all his fury into pulling the trigger.
Bang!
In that split second of amplified perception, Fujioka didnโt see bullets flying but the gun exploding, its body shattering, gunpowder bursting, and his finger tearing.
Startled by the sudden change, he screamed and fell backward. His feet slipped and, caught by the strong high-altitude wind, he tumbled off the airship.
Until he fell from the sky, Hayashi Yoshiki calmly watched.
"Farewell, Mr. Fujioka."
Ringtone ringing~
Suddenly, Hayashi Yoshikiโs phone rang.
He answered.
"Hello, Uncle Mouri?"
"Ah... I was about to tell Officer Nakamori that Fujioka Takamichi just fell off the airship right in front of me. Please have the police dispatch boats for a search immediately."
"Details later when we meet. Iโm currently on the surface of the airship."
"Alright, donโt worry. Iโm safe and heading back now."
Hayashi Yoshiki hung up and put away his phone.
Mouri Kogoro called againโNishitani Kasumi had been caught and had confessed the mastermindโs identity, including Fujioka among them.
When they headed to the medical room where Fujioka was initially isolated, they found he had long since disappeared.
Hayashi Yoshiki tore the page with Fujioka Takamichiโs name from the notebook and then let go.
All the paper scraps were immediately swept up and scattered by the wind.
Actually, Hayashi Yoshiki was quite curious to test if writing a name after the personโs death and then revealing the writing with heat could still make the Death Note work...
If successful, it would be very useful.
He decided to wait and try next time.
