Chapter 263: Battery

Inna got desperate when she saw Javir’s body fallen on the ground.

"Drott! Come here!" Her choked voice came to the ears of the mechanic who ran to that room and gasped once he saw Javir’s state.

"Go take some medicine or something!" He shouted at her, going next to his body and lifting it.

She knew that she wouldn’t have strength enough to bear the dead weight of the body of their partner, so she let it on Drott’s charge and ran to another room to get some bandages and all the medicine available for them in that place.

The mechanic dragged Javir to a mattress that was laid in that room, taking off his shirt and spotting that two shots got him. One in the shoulder and another on his right arm. He got lucky that he wasn’t shot at his trunk. No one there was a healer, so they would have a hard time treating him.

"I think that the Ridires got him! These wounds aren’t made from the bullet of a gun other than a Helheim!"

Once she heard that, Inna’s hands trembled so much that she let some of the things she had on them fall on the ground. She clumsily took all of it back and rushed to the room where both her partners were.

"What do we do? The wounds aren’t in fatal spots, but these holes are too wide and are bleeding a lot! We also don’t know for how long he needed to endure running on the streets while hurt. He might be nearly dying from blood loss!" She crouched beside the mattress. Tears of despair ran down her cheeks nonstop.

"Look, we can guess a lot of things now, but there is anything we can do if the worst-case scenario is really happening now?" Drott looked at her, his eyes glazed. He was losing his patience with Inna. In the end, he was even more anxious than her, which made him lose his cool.

"No... we can’t do anything... but--"

"Then, that’s it! There is no point in keep rambling and doing rounds on the same problem!" He yelled.

Inna breathed in and out sometimes, slapping lightly her cheeks and trying to regain her composure. She nodded at Drott as if thanking him for getting her back to reality again. She noticed that the man was trembling so much that he couldn’t handle anything that she brought to treat Javir, so she took the lead while coordinating him to help.

They needed to spend one hour and a half treating him until they could decrease the bleeding, clean the wound, make stitches on it, then put the bandages with a special ointment to prevent infections. During that time, they were praying for Odin to keep their friend safe and to maintain the Ridires away from their hiding place.

Once they finished, both sat on the ground and laid their backs at the same time against the wall. Drott got his pistol back during the procedure and kept looking to the doors from time to time. He wanted to be sure that no one was lurking around the house.

"This guy is a stubborn one..." He commented laughing while wiping the tears on the corners of his eyes.

"Why is that?" She knew more or less the reason why he said it, but she still wanted him to say it out loud.

"He surely encountered the Ridires, right? He got shot on his right arm and shoulder afterward. He was walking in this heavy rain since the morning while searching for the items I needed to fix the computer, so he was more exhausted than the enemies. However, even so, he could still outwit them and get here, all the while losing a lot of blood and carrying that heavy back."

As he narrated, Inna nodded her head, glancing at her friend resting on top of the mattress.

"I guess he is always pushing himself like this because he thinks that he is the one that is doing fewer things here. I program and you fix and craft things, he just steals from time to time. For him, it might be the most easier thing among our duties." Inna could see very well through the thick barrier that Javir put around his heart. She knew the old habit of him to try to play the adult.

She and Drott became silent for some time. Drott tried to sort out some of the items that the robber brought for them and, just as he thought, the guy stole everything he demanded.

’Well, one thing he couldn’t catch, however. Anyway, it was an impossible thing, I just put it there to provoke him... I am such an idiot.’ He narrowed his eyes to the bag.

"Man... I shouldn’t have put this item here. He probably kept out there for more time trying to search it."

Inna was aware of what item he was talking about. Anyhow, she wouldn’t blame the guy for that. Without that item, their lives were torture when trying to work with that computer.

"Stop underestimating me, you idiot. Why do you think I kept my hand closed so tightly all this while?" Javir spoke in a hoarse voice all of a sudden, making his partners get alerted.

He raised his left arm, which he kept closed in a fist through all the procedure. When he opened it, a blue sphere in the same size as a marble appeared in their sights, making their jaw drop.

"I would never keep the most precious thing in the backpack, scumbag. A robber knows how to keep their treasures."

Inna and Drott glanced at each other, first in disbelief, replaced by joy and excitement afterward.

"Man, are you kidding with me!? You should have had fainted later after you arrived and told me beforehand! You cunning robber!" Drott jumped towards his hand, taking the blue sphere just as if it could break any time.

Inna, instead, jumped on Javir, hugging his neck and making him moan in pain.

"You dumbass! Never do this shit again with us, understood!? You nearly killed us from fear!" She scolded while she started to cry again with happiness.

"We finally will get out of this mess! No more poor gadgets, fake computers, or complex energy generators! That’s the real deal, the true Indigo Energy Battery! It’s just a little amount gathered in this sphere made of the fusion of different metals, but it’s enough to keep our computer working at max capacity!" Drott spoke.

Javir raised his upper body while hearing his explanation. It hurt like hell, but he could do it even with Inna on top of him.

The girl tried to scold him and push him back to his laid position, but he brushed her off.

"No, we don’t have time to keep slacking, even though I am injured. I know that this thing will help us with our objectives and give us a better time when working, but it’s both a blessing and a curse. I needed to trigger the Ridires’ anger to get this thing with me since I stole from them, so we will need to leave this place as soon as possible. They will invade each house of this slug until they find us. The place is probably all sieged, which will be troublesome for us to escape but not impossible."

Both Inna and Drott understood the situation. They nodded their heads to Javir, looking at him with serious eyes this time.

Then, the trio started to search rapidly all over the place, looking for important things that they needed to take with them. The majority was now just trash, but they filled three backpacks with tools and sheets to bring with them on that escape.

They managed to destroy every proof that could make the Ridires follow their trail, also as putting a timer bomb on the house that would explode in 5 minutes. They needed to vanish everything, so they could be assured that they would get some spare time in the future.

Since that wasn’t the first time they needed to change their hiding place, they could do it efficiently. In less than fifteen minutes they were already running under the rain through the slugs. The two others were following Javir since he had most of the knowledge about the streets and could get the most hidden and useful shortcuts.

"Hey, Javir, where are we going now? To another slug?" Inna asked.

While running, the young robber denied with his head.

"No. This time, we will need to outwit them completely. No space for mistakes anymore. The Ridires already know that we belong to the South region, they may know even our faces and names because of the submission of the people who live here. Stay in the same place forever under our conditions is dangerous."

"Then, what will we do?" Drott got next to him.

"We are going to another region of the district! It’s time to vanish for the time being."
