Divine Convenience Store-Chapter 576: Twin-Frost Resonance Rings
"This is a pair of high earth-grade artifacts, Shopkeeper." Yu Qingyan introduced while staring directly into his eyes. There was a subtle hint of shyness and determination in them, as though what she was about to say next might change the current status quo.
"They are called the [Twin-Frost Resonance Rings]. They dropped from the Floor 3 Boss. A pair of ice spirits that fought in perfect unison. Their effect... is unique."
She held one out to him, the cool metal gleaming under the soft lounge lights. "When worn by two individuals, they create an invisible resonant link. Regardless of distance, it allows the sharing of spiritual energy to accelerate recovery. More importantly, it grants a sensory connection when the pair is close to each other. It... it is an artifact meant for partners who trust each other implicitly."
Lin Mo looked at the ring, then at Yu Qingyan. He wasn’t dense. The implication was as clear as the ring’s crystal setting. A pair of rings. Partners. Trust.
She was making a move. A subtle yet slightly bold, romantic gambit disguised as a loot report.
Lin Mo could see the vulnerability in her eyes, the fear of rejection warring with her desire to be closer to him.
If he refused it, he would hurt her. If he accepted it as a romantic gesture, he would be complicating his already precarious balancing act with the other women.
So, he did what he did best. He reframed it.
"Sensory connection and shared energy recovery?" Lin Mo’s eyes lit up with half professional excitement and half appreciation as he took the ring. He examined the inscriptions etched into the ring. "Miss Yu, this is brilliant. This is going to be a great artifact for partners. In the chaos of an Anchor or a Tower, voice commands can be drowned out. A secure, silent line of communication is invaluable. And the ability to top up a partner’s reserves? That could be the difference between life and death in a boss fight."
"Indeed... That’s why..." Yu Qingyan’s voice trailed there as she suddenly found herself stumped. She couldn’t find the words to say that she wanted him to take the pair and wear it with her. It felt too forward and too presumptuous even for a Golden Core cultivator who could stare down a Sect Master.
"That’s why you brought it to me," Lin Mo finished for her in a gentle tone, bridging the gap she couldn’t cross. He reached out and plucked the second ring from her palm. "Because you understand that as the core of this network, my safety and coordination with my Distributors are paramount. You are securing your investment, Miss Yu. A wise move."
He didn’t wait for her to correct him. He slid the ring onto his right index finger.
It was a perfect fit.
The moment the cool metal settled against his skin, a soft sound resonated in the air. The emerald gem on the ring flashed once.
Lin Mo gasped softly. It wasn’t a sound of pain, but of sudden, expanding awareness.
Then, he watched her put on the other ring. And as soon as that happened, both of their eyes widened. They sensed the connection between each other. It’s like the distance between them had suddenly disappeared.
Yu Qingyan blushed and Lin Mo couldn’t help but lower his head as well.
If he could compare the sensation to something he was familiar with, it wasn’t like the Aetheric Link that he experienced with Liu Xiaoyu or the intrusive psychic probing of the Dreilling. It was a subtle thread of warm presence at the back of his mind.
He could sense the steady, powerful rhythm of her Golden Core, the calm flow of her verdant spiritual energy, and a faint, fluttering sensation that he suspected mirrored her own heartbeat.
"Oh," Lin Mo murmured, looking at his hand. "Resonance... indeed. It is remarkably clear. I can sense your location and your status instantly. No latency."
Yu Qingyan stared at the ring on his finger, her cheeks flushing a delightful shade of pink that contrasted beautifully with her green robes.
"It... it works," She whispered. The disappointment of his business-like interpretation was washed away by the reality of the bond. He was wearing it. He was connected to her. That was enough for now.
But as she looked at the ring on his finger, and the genuine appreciation in his eyes, a different kind of satisfaction settled in.
He hadn’t rejected her. He had accepted the bond. He had framed it as business, yes, but he was wearing the ring. He had accepted her as his partner.
"With this, Shopkeeper, I will know if you are in danger. And you will know where I am, no matter how deep into the North I travel."
"Ideally, neither of us will be in danger," Lin Mo said with a smile, admiring the craftsmanship. "But redundancy is a pillar of convenience. Thank you, Miss Yu."
"Don’t mention it, Shopkeeper."
Lin Mo nodded, "Anyhow. You truly reached Floor 4. That’s more than impressive. Maybe in the future, I’ll also climb that tower."
"Impressive. Not exactly. I had your store’s... convenience," She touched the spatial ring where her Celestial Duel Gear and other items were stored. "And the insights from the Secret Realm. Speaking of which..."
She hesitated, a faint blush returning to her cheeks. She reached into her robe and pulled out the [Wayfinder’s Compass]. The emerald artifact pulsed gently on the table between them.
"I feel this should be used for something that benefits the store directly. Should I bring this to you when its monthly ability becomes available again?"
Lin Mo looked at the compass. It was a powerful tool, capable of locating anything from resources to opportunities. He could use it to find the next opportunity that could wait for them, or perhaps the location of a hidden legacy.
But he pushed it back towards her.
"Keep it, Qingyan," He said softly, dropping the formal ’Miss Yu’ for her given name. "It chose you. It’s bound to you. Use it to guide your path. If our paths align, and I believe they always will, then the store benefits regardless. Besides, I have my own ways of finding things."
Yu Qingyan stared at him, her eyes searching his face. The trust he placed in her was absolute. It was intoxicating. 𝘧𝓇ℯ𝑒𝓌𝑒𝑏𝓃𝘰𝘷𝘦𝘭.𝒸ℴ𝓂
"You really are... peculiar," She whispered. "Any other sect master would demand this to be used for the sect’s benefit."
"I told you. I’m a shopkeeper. I invest in people, not just things," Lin Mo shrugged, masking his slight embarrassment with a sip of coffee. "And my investment in you has already paid off tenfold. A Golden Core distributor in the North? That’s a billboard money can’t buy."
"Is that all I am? A billboard?" She teased, though her eyes held a glimmer of challenge.
"A very effective, very beautiful billboard," Lin Mo retorted without missing a beat, causing her to flush red again.
"You... you have become bold, Shopkeeper. Did the tribulation burn away your shyness?"
"Maybe. Or maybe I’m just tired of dancing around the obvious."
With that remark, the romantic tension that Yu Qingyan thought had already dispersed once again returned.
The lounge was quiet, save for the muffled noise downstairs. It was a dangerous, comfortable silence.
"Ahem," Lin Mo cleared his throat, deciding to tactically retreat before he said something that would get him into trouble with the other women. "Speaking of tours... I believe I promised you a look at the facilities. The lounge is just the waiting room. The real magic happens behind those doors."
He stood up, offering his hand again. Yu Qingyan took it while hiding a smile.
He led her down the hallway. "To the left are the Premium Cultivation Rooms. You already know about them from Miss Chu, I assume? Time acceleration, simulated environments, and direct system guidance. It’s where I spent the last few nights when I prepared for my breakthrough."
"Yueying couldn’t stop talking about it," Yu Qingyan admitted. "She said it was like... cheating. But she also said it was grueling."
"Growth is never painless. But here, we make the pain efficient," Lin Mo opened the door to an empty room, letting her peek inside the white void. "You have priority access now. If you want to stabilize your Golden Core or push for the mid-stage, this is the place."
"I might take you up on that. I feel like I gained a lot from the tower."
"And finally," Lin Mo led her to the end of the hall, where a set of double doors carved from warm, aromatic cedar stood. "The newest addition. The reason everyone downstairs is so excited."
He pushed the doors open, revealing the entrance to the private suites of the [Celestial Hot Spring]. Right. There was a door connected to the inner hall of the hot spring on the second floor of the store proper. It was so that the Golden Patron could immediately move there instead of lining up with the other patrons.
Obviously, they still needed to get an armband first. The staff stationed there would walk them through it.
But since the store was already closing, no one was around when they stepped into the corridor.
