Chapter 37: Divine Magic

The world seemed to slow down for Logan, not because he was moving fast but because he could already see his death.

A hand seemingly appeared and gripped Logan’s head before throwing him to the center of the ruined platform.

It jumped and landed on him. Its fist fell like freight trains on Logan with enough force to crack and break his bones but not enough to kill him.

Crossing his hands, Logan tried to protect his head but the possessed noble held his left arm.

It stood over Logan and placed its foot on his chest to push him down.

With a twisted grin, it rotated his arm.

The limb let out popping noises as it deformed. The noble pulled with force and ripped his arm off his body.

Logan screamed in pure agony as he started to writhe in pain.

The people outside the barrier started slamming against it.

Most cast spells but all their attempts only succeeded in causing a nuisance.

Turning to the barrier, the noble got off Logan and walked to it.

It lightly touched it with its hand before letting out a shrill laugh.

Thrusting its hand through the barrier, it grabbed and pulled one of the closer students.

It held the hand of the frightened young lady, and she slammed her other hand against its chest to no avail.

She even cast spells yet nothing worked.

Kneeling the girl down to face those outside the barrier, the noble held her head firmly and cleanly ripped it off her shoulders with no hesitation or struggle whatsoever.

It licked the blood that ran down its forearm before it threw the head through the barrier.

It waved its hand and the barrier became completely grey and opaque.

Turning back to Logan, it could see him standing with his eyes slightly quivering.

It vanished, and at the same time, the space around Logan darkened.

Moving peculiarly, Logan swerved his body to avoid the attack.

The noble appeared and grabbed thin air. It had almost missed.

Almost.

Mid-flight, its arms turned around as its body snaked to prevent Logan from running.

With a firm grip on him, he threw him back to where he was before.

"Have you ever broken a nose before?" Deep joy filled it.

"No? Well, there’s a first time for everything." It giggled before raising its fist and slamming it on Logan’s face and shattering his nose.

Cracks resounded in the dead silent platform, the only thing moving was the noble’s falling fists and the river of blood surrounding Logan.

The latter was beyond recognition, his eyes losing light.

"No. You don’t die yet." It burst out with the same grey energy and Logan was healed in an instant with even his missing arm growing back.

His finger twitched and space flickered.

The tachi he was very well familiar with appeared in his hand.

Gripping the hilt, he activated the enchantments.

A Dark Shot fired off and pierced the head of the noble.

The plan was to move to a more advantageous position while he was temporarily incapacitated.

But alas, most plans fail.

The noble’s head healed as soon as he hole appeared.

It pulled the blade from Logan’s hand and stabbed it into his stomach.

Feeling the rush of mana fill him, Logan still found himself unable to use the D-rank mana he had filled himself with before the failed attack.

The noble kept on breaking his body and healing him. It was having fun.

’Why should I die? I’ve done nothing wrong but try to survive?’ Logan’s eyes slightly glowed white.

’Simple. I shouldn’t. I don’t deserve it.’ The glow strengthened and became quite obvious.

"We’ve had fun but we aren’t willing to find out why your eyes are glowing." The noble remarked as it pulled out Logan’s sword and aimed it at his head.

The one it was talking to didn’t hear him- no, he was unable to.

’Die. They all should die.’ Memories of all the suffering he has had to endure flashed through his mind filling him with deep rage.

His eyes focused on the blade above his head and he vanished.

The noble’s hand outstretched and caught Logan’s leg mid-air.

"You pushed us away but you aren’t going anywhere." It threw Logan to the ground and drove the blade through his chest.

Yet the one it stabbed smiled so deeply that it was unsettling.

A white spark flashed across his body and he vanished.

This time, however, the noble was unable to catch him so Logan now stood opposite it with a blade in his chest

Then they clashed.

Dashing far faster than it had in the battle, the noble reached for Logan.

Logan whose eyes were concentrated yet distant at the same time stared at it, his movements were slow until they became too fast.

Coated in white lightning, Logan and the noble were running about the platform at matching speed.

Giving chase was the noble while Logan avoided all attacks.

More grey energy flared out of the noble’s body as it attempted to catch up to Logan.

The latter kept on dodging with expert precision.

His hair slowly turned black as he outmaneuvered the noble.

Red streaks appeared on his now black hair and Logan clicked his finger.

A massive fireball appeared aimed at the noble.

Yellow streaks appeared and Logan waved his hand causing wind blades to appear.

Then orange, blue, brown, and finally silver.

By this time, Logan had spells of all six main elements hovering around him, all without casting.

He was flying in the air much to the fear of the noble.

Something was telling it that if it let Logan finish what he was doing, it would be its end.

Squatting for an instant, it shot off into the air and aimed for Logan.

The latter looked at the impending threat that moved at breakneck speeds and let out a slight smile.

Dread washed over the noble but it shook it off.

Arms made of earth erupted from the platform and held the limbs of the noble in place.

It would only hold him for a fraction of a second yet that was all Logan needed.

In that brief moment, he vanished and appeared on the ground.

The spells he had cast started fusing into something different, something primordial.

They fused in an instant to form a small white sphere that radiated power in the C-rank!

The sphere moved and vanished but the noble dodged causing it to only brush lightly against his arm. Yet that was enough.

White cracks started to spread throughout its body.

It cut off its limbs yet that didn’t stop their advance.

Looking at Logan in pure horror, the noble placed curses on him before it shattered into nothing but specks of white light.

Logan collapsed on the ground lodging the blade even deeper.

White returned to his multicolored hair until there were no traces of it.

Now, Logan laid in a pool of his blood, dead.
