Chapter 571: Chapter 571: Bullying the Weak and Fearing the Strong

Ever since his brother-in-law became the Lord Magistrate, Du Yingliang has been putting on airs. Now that he’s the Lord Magistrate’s brother-in-law, who wouldn’t try to curry favor with him, giving him a measure of respect?

Take this shop for instance, it has been at a standoff for nearly a month. It’s not that no one wanted to buy it, but knowing that he was intent on acquiring it, no one dared to make the purchase. Why is that? Isn’t it because they’re afraid of offending his brother-in-law?

As Du Yingliang thought about it, the New Year was fast approaching too, and that Liu should have known his place by now. It was time to take over the shop, but upon his arrival, he heard that someone else had already bought it.

The little runt standing in front of him was the buyer, flaunting his arrogance as if he were superior to all. Du Yingliang felt so angry that smoke seemed to be rising from his head, as he itched to slap the boy a couple of times to teach him a lesson.

"Little brother, the Lord Magistrate is my brother-in-law, and we’re close!" Du Yingliang gritted out through his teeth.

Liu Jin laughed: "Oh. And then?"

With an incredulous smile, Du Yingliang wondered which family lacked sense enough to send such an ignorant pup to do their business. Didn’t they have any competent people at home?

"You little rascal..."

Just as Du Yingliang started speaking, someone came running up, panting and calling out to him.

Recognizing the servant from his brother-in-law’s side, Du Yingliang thought his arrival was timely, perfect to identify this brat and teach him a lesson later.

"Uncle Du, I’ve finally found you," the servant gasped, leaning in to whisper a few words in Du Yingliang’s ear.

Instantly, Du Yingliang’s expression changed drastically. He swiftly turned to look at Liu Jin, who maintained his haughty demeanor. Suppressing his frustration, Du Yingliang turned and said, "Let’s go!"

So it was the County Magistrate’s people who were after the shop. Damn it, wasn’t the County Magistrate from a distinguished family? And yet he coveted such a small establishment?

Realizing that the shop might be coveted by Wen Congrui, Du Yingliang had no choice but to abandon his plans. After all, a Magistrate’s rank was significant, but still subordinate to that of the County Magistrate!

As Liu Jin watched Du Yingliang wisely take his leave, he snorted, bid farewell to Liu Ming, and hurried home.

Wufu was reviewing some designs.

"Miss, Liu Jin has returned!" Purple Jade came to report.

"Let him in," Wufu responded.

Liu Jin entered and knelt to pay his respects.

"In my presence, there’s no need for so much formality. Is everything managed?" Wufu glanced at him and asked.

"To respond to the miss, Ma Tiankuai has already gone to handle the relevant documents and deeds. I have come to report back. Ma Tiankuai mentioned that there are two estates in Long Town up for sale; one covers a thousand mu, and the other spans eight hundred. More so, one of them is a Hot Spring Manor. Both estates boast excellent yields. Ma Tiankuai inquired whether the miss would be interested to purchase them?" explained Liu Jin.

Two large estates, one of which even contained a hot spring?

Wufu’s interest was piqued: "What are their asking prices?"

"The one covering a thousand mu is asking for 1300 taels, and the Hot Spring Manor is priced at 1200 taels. The price difference for the smaller estate is due to it boasting a large Peach Grove with an exquisite landscape, combined with the hot spring; that’s why it’s higher," Liu Jin explained.

Realization struck Wufu: "Since he recommended them, now that the shop matter is settled, you should visit these two estates. If they are truly good, purchase them."

One cannot have too much land as it is an asset that does not depreciate or disappear. So, purchasing them wouldn’t be a loss, especially since the other shop could utilize the yields from the estates as well.

"Yes!" Liu Jin accepted the command, then detailed the encounter with Du Yingming at the Suixin Restaurant.

"Typical bully fearing the tough. Since he understood his place, there’s no need to bother with him. You go about your business," Wufu said, returning her focus to the designs.
