Douluo: My Teacher Is Supreme Pontiff-Chapter 246: Tournament Rules
The next day, Li Chang’an walked out of the Hong Chamber of Commerce with light steps, a faint smile lingering at the corner of his lips.
At the same time, the Hong Chamber of Commerce placed an order for a luxurious and sturdy new bed and invited the best carpenter in the city to carry out modifications.
As he strolled down the street, whistling, Li Chang’an recalled the joys of the previous day. The backlash would fade, but the pleasure was everlasting.
When Bai Xue learned that Li Chang’an had been restraining himself for a whole month, conserving his strength for her sake, she had been moved to tears. She had sworn to repay him by dedicating herself fully to his comfort in the future.
Thus, the entire day yesterday, Bai Xue had been the one taking the initiative—trying everything, in every possible way. In fact, their passion was so intense the bed collapsed midway, forcing Li Chang’an to pull her into the garden for a round of "swinging."
Yes... a very innocent swing.
Sometimes, Li Chang’an thought, a little white lie was necessary. If he had told Bai Xue he had simply been out playing around all month, yesterday’s joy might never have happened. 𝚏𝕣𝕖𝚎𝚠𝚎𝚋𝚗𝐨𝐯𝕖𝕝.𝕔𝐨𝕞
But indulgence aside, it was time to return to Shrek Academy and face two pressing issues: who to take with him when he left, and how to handle the impending "Romantic field."
Shrek Academy – Grand Conference Hall
The hall, usually reserved for teachers’ meetings, was unusually crowded today. Not only were the instructors seated in the front row—Flander, Zhao Wuji, Liu Erlong, Li Chang’an, and even Yu Xiaogang—but a dozen students had also gathered.
Among them were the Shrek Seven Devils, Meng Yiran, and other outstanding seniors like Jiang Zhu and Huang Yuan. (Tai Long had already withdrawn from the academy to follow the Strength Clan, so he naturally wasn’t present.)
Ning Rongrong had rushed back right after attending her sect’s renaming ceremony yesterday, just to make it in time for this meeting. After all, today’s topic concerned not only the rules of the grand tournament but also the "changes" Li Chang’an had hinted at.
Sitting in his chair, Li Chang’an felt a headache creeping in as he caught the subtle glances directed his way. Beside him sat Liu Erlong, while down below, Xiao Wu, Zhu Zhuqing, Ning Rongrong, and Meng Yiran all occasionally stole tender looks at him.
The relationships were tangled beyond measure. Xiao Wu and Zhu Zhuqing were his acknowledged girlfriends, while Ning Rongrong, Meng Yiran, and even Liu Erlong could be counted as his hidden ones. Yet none of them knew about the others.
If that wasn’t a Romantic field waiting to erupt, he didn’t know what was. For now, though, at least the powder keg hadn’t exploded.
Flander cleared his throat. "Ahem. Quiet, everyone. The meeting is about to begin."
The room fell silent. His eyes swept over the gathered students, a mixture of pride and melancholy on his face. These were his students, his pride... but with Li Chang’an soon leaving—and taking a few with him—the path ahead for Shrek would be bittersweet.
"Children," Flander began warmly, "all of you are the most outstanding students of Shrek Academy. Your average soul power has already surpassed level thirty-five, and some of you are even above level forty. That makes me proud."
He paused, then added, "But before I explain the rules of the tournament, I have another announcement. Teacher Li Changsheng—our Li Teacher—will no longer serve as a formal instructor at Shrek. Instead, he will remain as our Honorary Dean."
Gasps rippled through the hall.
"Yes," Flander continued, "because of certain personal matters, Dean Li will be forming his own team for this tournament. He will also be taking with him a few of our students. You all already know who those people are, so I won’t name them."
That last line, meant as a way of softening the blow, had the opposite effect. In the audience, four young women simultaneously flushed with embarrassment.
Flander, oblivious to the storm of emotions he’d stirred, smiled mischievously. "Still, whether it’s us or Dean Li’s team that takes the championship, it will all bring glory to Shrek. For that reason, both of our teams will wear uniforms designed together under the Shrek banner!"
Li Chang’an nearly choked on his own breath.
’This sly old fox! Didn’t even tell me beforehand!’
He managed to swallow his irritation, reminding himself that after all, he was going to walk away with four of their best.
Flander shifted into a more formal tone. "Now, let me explain the official rules of the All-Continent Advanced spirit Master Academy Tournament."
He shot a sharp glare at Ma Hongjun, who had been grinning foolishly at Jiang Zhu. The chubby boy quickly sat straighter, though not before sneaking another glance at the gentle beauty across from him.
Ignoring the antics below, Flander continued:
"The tournament is hosted jointly by the royal families of both the Heaven Dou and Star Luo Empires, and co-organized by Spirit Hall. It is the grandest Spirit master competition on the continent, second only to Spirit Hall’s own elite selection trials."
"There are a few rules that must be followed absolutely. First, all participating students must be under twenty-five years of age, and each match must field exactly seven participants. Second, the tournament is intended as a friendly exchange. While injuries may happen, participants must avoid crippling or killing. Any academy whose student kills another competitor will not only bear full consequences but will also be permanently expelled from the tournament."
"These are the hard rules. Beyond them are standard regulations to ensure fairness. For example: during matches, no external medicines or food items may be used unless they are created on-site by your team’s food-type or healing-type spirit master. This ensures that if you want mid-battle recovery, you must allocate a team slot for a support-type spirit master."
"This prevents teams from cheating by stockpiling elixirs in advance. In addition, no external weapons unrelated to martial souls may be used. Tang San, that means your hidden weapons will not be permitted during the tournament. Keep that in mind, or risk disqualification."
Flander’s gaze lingered on Tang San until the boy nodded solemnly.
"These are the core rules. Now, as for the preliminary rounds..."
He went on to explain that the preliminaries would be divided into regions, with their Heaven Dou Empire’s matches centered in Heaven Dou City. The details had been slightly adjusted this year—changes influenced in part by Li Chang’an’s behind-the-scenes efforts.
Overall, the new rules were more humane, more balanced, and designed to ensure fairness. But at the end of the day, like always, the results would still depend on a mixture of strength... and luck.
