Dreaming of you-Chapter 56: Come Closer
While everyone stared at the door in intense curiosity, a group of people entered. Just one look at them and it was clear—they looked no less than gangsters or members of some mafia. Tattoos covered their bodies. They wore black suits with white shirts.
The man standing at the front of the group looked at the grooms and said,
" You got married but didn’t invite them? No, no, that’s not right at all. You forgot your friend at your own wedding? But what does it matter if you forgot? I remember."
He smiled as he spoke.
Jung-hee looked at the man, then at everyone else. From their expressions, it was obvious—no one was happy to see him. In fact, they looked quite irritated and annoyed.
Tae-hyun shouted in anger, "You’re still the same as before! No sense of decency or shame! Who comes to a wedding without an invitation?"
" I am yours friend. So I don’t need any invitation. "
" Friend? My ass. "
"Yeah. I used to slap your ass a lot when we was a kid. So you’re right about that."
Everyone burst into laughter. Tae-hyun felt embarrassed. His face turned red.
"Just go away and let us enjoy this moment." Dong-hyeon says.
"Hey, don’t be mad man. I didn’t come with empty-handed. You know, I brought you all a gift."
As soon as he said that, the people with him pointed guns at the stage. The crowd gasped in shock.
Jung-hee stood frozen, hand near her waist where her gun was hidden. She was torn—if she drew her weapon now, Dong-hyeon would demand answers. And if he found out her true identity and mission, then what? But if she didn’t act, there could be bloodshed. Caught between saving lives and preserving her mission, Jung-hee hesitated.
Suddenly, the men fired.
But instead of bullets, water sprayed out of their guns. They started soaking everyone with water, laughing. Dong-hyeon and his friends rushed at them and joined in, spraying water back. Jung-hee stood dumbfounded, trying to process what just happened.
As she was lost in thought, Dong-hyeon suddenly sprayed water directly on her face with a toy gun. The pressure made it hard for her to breathe or open her eyes. He laughed loudly.
Using her arms to block the spray, Jung-hee moved toward him. Dong-hyeon kept spraying water, but Jung-hee managed to snatch the gun from his hand. He froze in surprise.
Jung-hee gave a mischievous grin.
"Now, where are you gonna run, huh?"
She sprayed water on him, and Dong-hyeon ran off. Jung-hee chased him. Dong-hyeon quickly grabbed another water gun and turned to face her. Their eyes locked—not romantically, but like two warriors before battle.
They sprayed water at each other, fiercely. Soon, Jung-hee ran out of water. But she wasn’t one to give up. She grabbed some water balloons from behind her and started throwing them at Dong-hyeon, hitting him every time. She is enjoying the moment. Breathless, Dong-hyeon stopped.
Seizing the opportunity, Jung-hee rushed toward him to grab his gun—but slipped. Just as she was about to fall, Dong-hyeon caught her. She gripped his shoulders tightly as he held her with one arm. Their eyes met and held.
After a while, when Jung-hee didn’t move, Dong-hyeon said,
"Hey chubby, get up already. My arm’s going numb. I’ll drop you, seriously!"
Jung-hee quickly got up, shooting him a glare.
"Who are you calling chubby, huh? You’re the chubby one! You and your whole family are chubby! Rude!"
She turned to leave in a huff, but Dong-hyeon grabbed her hand and pulled her back. Her head bumped into his chest. She lets out a small cry of pain.
"Ouchhhh"
"Why are such tiny people always the angriest?"
"Oh really! you call me fat and expect me not to get mad? Unfortunately, I’m not standing your bullshit."
Dong-hyeon laughed loudly. Jung-hee glared at him and tried to get away.
"Let me go! Move aside! I’m leaving!"
"What if I say I won’t let you go?"
"What do you mean?" She frowns.
"I mean I’m not letting you go."
"I’m your fake girlfriend, not the real one. That doesn’t give you the right to act like this. Let me go, or I’ll leave right now."
"I know you won’t leave."
"You’re wrong."
"Okay, then—how about we get married here too? What do you say? Wouldn’t that be fun?"
"Not at all! Marry you? Have I completely lost my mind? I already have a boyfriend. When he comes back to the country, we’re getting married."
Dong-hyeon laughed. "Time to step out of your imaginary world, Darling."
Jung-hee was about to respond when her phone rang. Dong-hyeon immediately let go. She walked away to take the call. From a distance, Dong-hyeon watched her, a trace of suspicion and sadness in his eyes.
He returned to his friends, trying to enjoy himself, but his eyes kept going back to Jung-hee. Suddenly, he noticed her talking angrily and shouting on the phone. Then, she hung up and left.
Dong-hyeon quietly followed her.
Jung-hee went and sat by the pond near the church, dipping her feet in the water, staring blankly at the sky. Dong-hyeon sees her like this from a distance and starts to move forward. Dong-hyeon approached slowly. Just then, Jung-hee began to cry. Her quiet tears turned into loud sobs. Seeing her so broken made Dong-hyeon’s heart ache. He wanted to go to her—but something held him back. Dong-hyeon stands and watches her from a distance with his hands clenched into fists.
After a while, the wedding ceremony began. Jung-hee returned and sat beside Dong-hyeon.
"Am I late?"
"No, it just started," Dong-hyeon reassured her.
One by one, the weddings were completed. Each couple’s family spoke a few words. Finally, the dining program begins. Everyone eats and drinks, many dance, and various games are played.
Finally, when the ceremony is over, Dong-hyeon and Jung-hee say goodbye to everyone and come to the bike. They get on their bikes and start their journey. Jung-hee doesn’t say anything at this time. Dong-hyeon can sense that Jung-hee is upset. So instead of going home, she starts riding her bike on another road.
"Isn’t this the wrong way home?" Jung-hee asked.
"It is."
"Then where are we going?"
"Somewhere. Just sit quietly."
Jung-hee didn’t ask further. Set quietly.
After a while, Dong-hyeon stops the bike. Dong-hyeon stops the bike on the bank of a deserted river, where a soft breeze blows and the sun is slowly setting. The river water has spread a reddish glow all around. There is no one around—just the two of them, and the silent nature.
Jung-hee gets off the bike and continues to watch this beautiful scene. After a while, when the sun sets, Jung-hee closes her eyes. She takes a deep breath and lets it out. As she exhales, the invisible thing that had been heavy inside her for so long comes out. Jung-hee smiles and opens her eyes.
Dong-hyeon watched her quietly the whole time. As soon as she smiled, so did he. She turned to him and saw him holding a pair of shoes.
"When did you buy those?" She asks in surprise.
"I didn’t buy. I borrowed them from Do-yoon. He got them for his wife. They don’t need it so I take."
He flashed a big grin. Jung-hee laughed too. She put on the shoes. Dong-hyeon packed her old ones in a bag, and walked toward the bike.
"Let’s go to home."
"But why did we come here in the first place? Won’t you complete your work?" She asked while standing there.
"The reason we came—has been fulfilled. Let’s go now."
Dong-hyeon went and sat on the bike. Jung-hee realized then—it was for her that he had come here. She looked at him with a strange, affectionate gaze. When she didn’t move, Dong-hyeon motioned for her to come with a wave of his hand. Jung-hee smiled softly and ran toward him.
As she got on the bike, Jung-hee asked,
"So, who was that guy?"
"Which guy?" Dong-hyeon asked when he don’t understand which person Jung-hee mention.
"The one who showed up with a gun! And then caused all that chaos with the water?"
"Ohhh, him! He’s actually a friend of ours. We used to play sports together back in the day. But he hadn’t kept in touch for years. So, we were kind of upset with him. Guess he pulled that stunt just to make it up to us. He is the richest person in our group." Dong-hyeon said, laughing.
"More than you?"
"Yes, but you don’t have any chance. Because he is already married with one child."
After hearing his words, Jung-hee Punch him on the shoulder.
"Honestly speaking, I thought he’d brought a real gun and he is a mafia boss."
Dong-hyeon chuckled but didn’t respond. He was riding the bike when Jung-hee suddenly hugged him from behind. The sudden gesture startled him at first, but then a smile formed on his face. Both of them were smiling—genuine, peaceful smiles.
