Duality of Shadows-Chapter 976: Unmatched Treasures
That demon led them to a remote region of the universe, far from any galaxy. There, an enormous black hole loomed, and, according to him, inside it was a place where people constantly tried their luck. However, in history, only seven had ever managed to leave. The last one, interestingly, was a human who founded the merchant clan a few centuries ago.
Meru said goodbye to the demon. He could now return, and they would probably never see each other again. Before parting, she altered his internal Yin rune and even provided some tips on how to better utilize that law. The demon, moved, almost kneeled in gratitude, but she stopped him, lifting him back up.
Soon, the whale saw Meru speaking with the demon and immediately understood what Ruri had truly emphasized to her daughter before they left. The demon looked at the whale seriously, bowed respectfully, and nodded shakily.
After that, they moved on. Alm and Bruno, noticing the proud smile on the little girl’s face, couldn’t help but feel happy about the success of her first mission as a missionary. That demon would now begin spreading the whale’s religion in that universe and would do everything to propagate it.
Once statues began to appear and people truly started to worship him, Bruno would be able to sense it, transmitting his rules to everyone.
"Let’s go," said the whale, motioning to Meru, and the two of them dove directly into the black hole.

Inside, they found a small, self-contained world, glowing brightly. Upon landing in a region that looked like a vast plain, they noticed a glowing point in the sky, resembling an orange sun.
"This is the final core of the law we need," Alm and Bruno concluded confidently.
This meant there had once been eight of these suns. So...
The ground began to tremble, and giant skeletons of all races and sizes emerged from the earth.
"It’s a trial. Those seven passed and conquered this," Meru murmured excitedly. "Dad, dad, can I train with them?"
The whale nodded, and Meru leapt off his shoulder. Drawing her short sword, she smiled and charged straight ahead. Before her lay an endless sea of skeletons, all looking terrifying and furious.
Meru didn’t use her tattoos—that would make it too easy. She simply wielded her short sword, attacking, jumping, slashing, and dodging nimbly. It was quite a sight: a small girl facing a raging army, all while smiling.
Bruno watched and sighed. Before, Meru only trained for fun when she had nothing else to do. Now, she seemed obsessed with training. Recently, on the ship, she spent all her time asking about laws, cultivation, and combat, eager to learn everything she could.
Meanwhile, Alm focused on a distant point. Two pairs of eyes were watching that "trial" intently. They belonged to the wills of the immortals mentioned by the system.
Meru fought until she was exhausted. Then, she activated her tattoos but didn’t use them to their full extent. She began practicing immortal-level Yin manipulation on the skeletons. They were all reanimated by it, becoming her subjects in a necromancy experiment using immortal laws.
A little girl managing to manipulate immortal-level Yin? Those two wills were utterly shocked upon realizing what she had done.
Meru made the most of the trial. Twelve hours later, she seemed to have a much deeper understanding of that immortal law. If given the opportunity to learn Yang in a similar way, she could easily merge the two and advance even further.
However, since she was a woman and Yin was naturally aligned with her, this would multiply her power several times. She might even be able to wield Rehvka’s Dao with ease now.
When she was done, she simply waved her hand and activated everything to the max. In an instant, all the skeletons turned to dust and vanished.
"What the hell?!" a startled voice echoed in the background.
Meru sighed and jumped back onto the whale’s shoulder without a care. Moments later, two figures appeared, clearly frightened. One of the wills was a male Chromaraic, while the other resembled a phoenix, but with multicolored, dazzling feathers.
"Let’s get this over with. I’ve already collected the seven cores you gave to the people of this universe; now I need this final one," the whale said bluntly.
The wills stared at him seriously before understanding. "A missionary... what does Heaven’s Will intend?" the Chromaraic asked.
The whale replied, "He said these laws would help master the primordial chaos item. After this, I’m going after that blade. That queen cannot get her hands on any more items."
"More items? She’s obtained one?!" the beast exclaimed, stunned.
"She already has a golden crown and now also the Void Beast Lance."
"Heavens... then she’s become invincible..." the Chromaraic muttered, clearly despairing at the whale’s words.
"What nonsense. My dad has two items too, and I have one, as does my uncle," Meru replied, puffing out her chest adorably.
The two stared at her in confusion as the whale gave a quick confirmation. The cauldron and the mirror were on their side. However, this didn’t lessen the problem of the queen possessing two items, as she had already been an incredibly tough enemy to face before.
The beast then asked, "...do you have a way to locate the items?"
"Caipora should be ready to do that soon. The blade, which served as the foundation for your eight laws, could help speed that up, right? It would be very useful," the whale said directly.
"Hmm... each of the eight laws can sense it in subtle ways. In the past, we tried to unite them by creating an artifact. If we had finished it, it would’ve been perfect for locating and maybe even controlling that item. Unfortunately, we didn’t have time to complete the project. Luckily, the queen never found out about it; that way, she didn’t come after us so quickly, and we managed to hide here," the Chromaraic muttered.
The whale’s eyes gleamed at this information. Meru understood too. Sohum had been working day and night, like a maniac, on artifact creation. The laws were the foundation of the rune seals he used in those artifacts. Using these laws, it shouldn’t be too hard for him.
"What was the point of letting people from the universe take the law cores?" Meru asked curiously.
"Despite everything, the laws are incomplete. In their complete form, the eight should be one. We tried to let fate find someone talented enough to use and complete them. This entire universe without Qi was designed for that. Since everyone only uses basic laws, whoever obtained our laws would end up focusing solely on them. Of course, it’s not worth much, since without Qi they live such short lives, but it was all we could do..."
The whale snorted. If that actually worked, it would be an unbelievable miracle. But, it was better to try something than to do nothing at all.
Meru listened and came to the same conclusion, absorbing this new and important lesson. They tried until the end, and even after death, they didn’t give up. Even if it was impossible, they played with everything they had.
"Alright. You guys don’t have any reason to stay here anymore, right? Can you hand over everything you researched about the artifact?" The whale spoke casually, clearly lost in thought. "By the way... is there anything left of you two besides these wills?"
"Yes, our bodies and souls were poisoned by an immortal basilisk. We reached this place and used our last bit of strength before dying. With our wills, we managed to seal what remained of our bodies. But... the poison was sealed along with them, so it’s unfortunately useless," the beast explained.
The Chromaraic added, "This was our final card. If the heroes discovered everything and invaded the universe, we planned to use the bodies and the poison inside them to infect and destroy everything. It would’ve been a glorious end, but it wasn’t necessary."
Meru felt the whale’s heart beating faster and turned to her father, smiling. He spoke quickly, "Excellent. Give everything to me. I’ll use every last bit of you to defeat the queen. That would be a truly glorious end, don’t you think?"
The two seemed confused but nodded in agreement. Their wills pulsed, and the ground split open, revealing the body of a Chromaraic and a beast nearly thirty meters long.
The whale’s eyes shone. These were treasures, two unmatched treasures. Not just because of the bodies but also because of the incredible amount of poison capable of killing even an immortal, combined with a massive quantity of Qi and Laws still intact within them.
Finally, the two wills nodded, and the last law descended from the sky, landing in front of the whale. The Chromaraic created a knowledge rune and sent it to him as well. Inside it were details about the artifact and their knowledge of the eight laws.
[Congratulations, Main Mission Completed.]
The message appeared, making Alm and Bruno sigh. They looked at the two wills, watching them disappear.
"Thank you for trying to finish what we couldn’t. I hope I’ve helped a little. That greedy woman... my entire race was exterminated by her... we weren’t even her enemies; we just tried to stay neutral all along..." The beast lamented, pain evident in its voice.
The Chromaraic turned to the whale. "If you can save my race and the mother race she captured and uses as slaves, please..."
"I already did. I destroyed everything, and all the Chromaraic are safe."
The whale replied, and the two were stunned. Then, they nodded in satisfaction before disappearing completely.
"Let’s head back. Your mom’s probably waiting. You’re turning eleven in a few days, right?" Alone, they spoke calmly to Meru, who smiled too, already missing her mother.
They accepted the return through the system. Quickly, they felt all the seals on their bodies being lifted. They stored the two bodies in their inventory and were soon covered in celestial runes, being transported far away.
