Chapter 113: Attack?

It could have been a coincidence that three bikes were currently riding right behind her but she soon realized it wasn’t when they would take every turn she did.

They were really following her. This wasn’t good!

Thinking about her destination, Celine knew that she would soon approach somewhere deserted if she aimed to go home, with these people tailing her out of nowhere, she wasn’t feeling at ease to drive down that path, so she swerved the car to the other lane, heading back to the direction of the company. If she returned to the industrial district, it would be a lot safer than in this deserted part of town. 𝚏𝕣𝐞𝗲𝐰𝕖𝐛𝐧𝕠𝕧𝚎𝚕.𝐜𝚘𝗺

With the tight security around the company, whatever intentions these people had for following her, they would have no choice but to retreat, but Celine hadn’t been able to even drive far enough yet when the bikes suddenly rode over the middle lane, tires screeching as they came to a stop in front of her car. The car lurched to a halt, her seatbelt biting into her chest.

Celine’s eyes narrowed. What did they want from her?

She reached for her bag, digging her hand in to retrieve her phone to call the cops, the faster she acted, the easier it would be to maintain the situation. But her phone refused to respond, was it dead?

She tried to turn it on but it showed a red bar, the battery icon flashing for a moment before the screen went blank again.

"Damn it!" She breathed. The men had already reached her, circling her car like predators.

Ahead, the road stretched empty flanked by warehouses and chain-link fences. There were no streetlights here, no cameras, just shadows and the growl of engines closing in as they roared their bikes all around her car.

They had her boxed in.

The first blow came against her rear bumper, a violent jolt that rocked the car as one of the bikes crashed against her car deliberately.

Then one of them hit against the driver’s side door causing a heavy thud that spider-webbed the window in a slow crack. They were hitting the car from all directions, looking like shadows in helmets and dark clothing, their intentions were and somewhat terrifying. If they were attacking her with such force, it was clear they wanted to hurt her.

They also seemed to want to frighten her out of the car, and she had no idea what waited for her once she stepped outside.

Her breath came in short, sharp bursts. Fear coiled in her stomach, but beneath it, something else stirred. Something cold and focused, she hadn’t spent those two years training brutally for nothing. She hadn’t endured the humiliation of her own career shattering, fans openly assaulting her without learning to fight for herself.

The driver’s side window suddenly shattered and a gloved hand shot in reaching for the lock.

"Did you think you could run from us? Hahaha!" She heard a belting laughter from the man trying to unlock her door.

She instantly grabbed the small canister of pepper spray she kept clipped beneath the dashboard, shoved her door open with all her weight, which immediately collided against the man on the other side square in the chest.

He stumbled back, and she shot out of the car, the pepper spray oozed out a silver blur in the dim light as she aimed for his face. The man released a scream, clawing at his helmet, and she brought her knee up hard into his midsection.

A gurgle of pain sounded in his throat and he went down, clutching his groin, rolling in pain.

"This bitch!" One man yelled behind his helmet, "So you wanna put up a fight, you won’t make this easy huh?"

Celine was on high alert as two of them circled her calculatively, evidently wary since they’d noticed her take one of them down.

One grabbed her from behind, an arm like iron tightened around her throat, her breathing was cut off momentarily but she quickly dropped her weight, twisted her body and drove her elbow into his ribs she felt it crack all the way to her shoulder. His grip immediately loosened and she spun around slamming her fist into his chin, and felt his jaw give way with a sickening pop. He crumpled to the floor like a loose sack.

The third man was larger, and slower because he was careful, evidently seeing how she had moved against his people just now.

’Why didn’t the boss tell us we would be dealing with a tough one? She only said to get a fragile, helpless woman.’

He didn’t immediately rush towards Celine, watching her moves.

Those useless bastards, they were so easily taken down by a woman! No matter how strong she was, he didn’t believe he couldn’t over power her. Women were much weaker than men for a reason, so she had some skills, he would wipe off her arrogance soon enough.

"Someone sent you, will you tell me who it is or do I have to beat it out of you?" She was panting as she asked this question, but she kept her eyes steadily on him, one mistake and she could be taken down.

Having enemies was so tiring precisely because of sneak attacks like these. She couldn’t pinpoint who would send a bunch of goons after her in the dead of the night.

The man grinned, "My job is to hit you hard enough to cripple you. What can a mere woman like you do to hurt me? You took a few self defense classes and you think you can actually take me on?" He roared out with laughter.

"Fine, you asked for this..."

She saw something swing from the corner of her eye before she could move, though she saw it coming there had not been enough time for her trained reflexes to take over.

The pipe had already connected with a sharp force on the back of her head. A jarring blow that sent white light exploding behind her eyes. She felt her knees buckle, the world seemed to tilt and sounds were becoming distant as if she was underwater.

Celine grabbed her head, as if that would stop the sharp buzzing currently blowing up in her brain. She swayed then steadied herself.

She had not noticed when one of the men had gotten off the floor, grabbed something from his bike and swung it at her head.

"Loser, that woman took you down."

"I wasn’t really taken out, I did that to fool her so I can get her from behind."

"She’s just a woman, if you were strong enough you wouldn’t have had to hit her from behind you useless scrap of junk!"

"Sorry boss."

"Shove your apology up your damn ass, just get her already. See if Eddy is still alive, if he can’t move just leave him there. The woman is all we need to finish this assignment."

Their words and arguments were distant, like far away echoes that drifted near and far.

Somewhere in her mind she saw Leo’s face and then Leah too, if she was taken by these men... what would happen to her children. It was her responsibility to protect them and keep them safe, but before that she would have to protect herself only then could she be there for them.

Celine bit back the pain and waited patiently for one of them to approach her, the moment he grabbed her arm, she moved, sending a kick to the back of his knee, when his knees connected with the pavement she grabbed the back of his head slamming it down to the floor, he went limp immediately.

"Fuck it, I’ve had enough of this shit!" She heard from the last man before her hair was suddenly gripped and yanked out of nowhere. "I should teach you a goddamn..."

His remaining words slurred when her elbow connected with his jaw, She spun him around, hooked her arm, and flipped him over her shoulder, he crashed to the ground on his back with a sickening crack. She didn’t stop there, stomping her heel on his face that led his neck to twist, rendering him unconscious.

Three bodies lay around her, when she noticed all three of them were unmoving, only then did she allow herself to breathe in relief.

It fight was over, but so was she. There was a wet trail at the back of her neck, when she touched it, she felt a thick warm liquid...

Blood!

Darkness suddenly crept in at the edges of her vision, it felt warm and inviting. She tried to push against it, to stay upright, but her body wouldn’t obey. She thought she heard the screeching sound of a car zooming to a stop somewhere around her but she wasn’t sure anymore. There were sounds of voices in the background somewhere.

Had the men gotten up? Would they take her now? From her children...

She tried to remain upright, to fight back but she was falling, the cold looking near and far.

But then, suddenly, arms strong and familiar seemed to grab her.

"Celine..." A voice so familiar, yet it was so far away, so far away she could barely hear it. The darkness completely bathed her in and everything turned black.
