Dumped A Scumbag At The Altar For A One Night Stand With A Billionaire-Chapter 131: You’re In Love With Her
A long silence stretched for a while before his voice, thick and hoarse suddenly broke through. "Do you think the key to happiness is marriage?"
Those words hit Eve and she knew why he said them, the opinions he had in his mind.
"Marriage made her miserable, marriage broke her apart. It ruined her, tell me, what sort of happiness did she get from it?" He added, his words heavier as he mentioned the suffering their mother had gone through.
Genevieve fell silent, she was rendered speechless by his words unable to argue with anything else.
Yes it was true, marriage ruined their mother, and maybe at some point In her life, she almost carried the same belief as her brother did until time taught her.
Companionship, it wasn’t about marriage...it was about having someone else by your side, someone who will be with you even if the whole world crumbles, someone who sees you deeper than anyone else in the world, it was about learning to love again, learning to let go of the past, move on from the pain, build a family in the future and learn the smallest joys in life.
"What happened between Mom and Dad..." Eve began but he cut her off.
"What that man did is unforgivable." The words ground out through his gritted teeth, "And I would kill him with my own hands if he wasn’t already dead."
"Tristan..."
"Stop it, Eve." He cut her off again, his tone harsher than he had ever spoken to her before, "Making stupid plans with grandma to force me into marriage won’t fix my past, it won’t erase the fact that I will never be able to love anyone anymore. Do you see what that so called love did to that man... what it did to Mom?"
Eve lowered her head guiltily, she couldn’t deny the truth of the past, but it couldn’t define their future. That past had shattered her brother, and his broken pieces were still somewhere inside him scattered all around never to be picked up again.
The reason Eve did this was because she imagined what her brother’s future would be like, he would always be alone running away from caring about anyone else, always hurting yet ruling the world with an iron fist, he would stand tall and dominant growing even more successful, but his heart would be empty, she didn’t want to see him live such a life.
Another option had showed itself to her, he would have someone by his side, a loving woman who would care deeply about him, who would make him learn to love again and that love he felt for her would thaw the ice around his heart, she pictured him with a little family of his own, children that would teach him how to give his attention and care again, he would learn to smile wholeheartedly again, learn to laugh with joy like a normal man again, not a broken person running away. That future seemed much better
But Tristan was a closed off wall, he would never break to the very thing he had completely shut his heart to, unless...
Eve’s eyes suddenly widened.
Weeks ago, the anniversary event of Grayson Corp had been held, but she had suffered from a terrible migraine that evening and she had been unable to attend that event, some of the household staff who’d been there came back with pictures and showed them to her.
Eve got to see a peculiar picture of her brother dancing with a woman, it wasn’t clear enough for her to see who the woman was, but she had seen something different on her brother and the way he held that woman that night.
"What if it was her?" Eve suddenly said, looking her brother straight in the eye. He frowned in confusion and she added, "The woman you danced with that night at the anniversary party. What if she was the one you were forced to marry?"
He stiffened, realization surfacing in his eyes as he now seemed to know who she was talking about.
Eve studied his facial expression, trying to take in every emotion that danced across his eyes.
She couldn’t make out all those emotions, but one of them was clear, he didn’t hate it.
If one mentioned his marriage to Erica there was clear reluctance in his gaze, but this woman...
Who was this woman exactly?
Eve found herself becoming curious now, perhaps there was someone specific who would heal Tristan’s pain.
He said nothing, looking away with coldness returning to his eyes but Eve didn’t want to give up. 𝙛𝓻𝒆𝒆𝒘𝙚𝓫𝙣𝙤𝒗𝙚𝓵.𝙘𝙤𝙢
"Would you want to marry her Tristan? Would you feel differently if it was her?"
"It’s doesn’t matter who it is." He uttered frigidly.
"But your eyes tell me that it does." Eve insisted, "Do you care about this woman, do you see yourself living with her, having a family with her, do you see yourself living every single day of your life with her? If even one of your answer to these questions is yes, then that means somewhere inside, you know you’re in love with her!"
Immediately her voice fell, a sharp silence embraced them both.
His hand clenched and unclenched, his eyes darting restlessly, his lips moved but he couldn’t say a word...not a single word, and that was when she knew, she might have hit the nail on the head.
It was no longer just a suspicion, it might actually be true. Tristan, was in love with someone, but he didn’t even know it yet. Or maybe he did, but he tried to convince himself that he didn’t.
"Tristan..." She reached out towards him and he took a step back, the look in his eyes at this moment was extremely complicated. Without saying anything, he strode out of the room, leaving her standing there with shock in her eyes.
She hadn’t said the words, and it had only been the tiniest suspicion but she hadn’t expected it to be true.
This woman... whoever she was, if Tristan truly did love her then it meant...she couldn’t allow him to marry Erica.
Eve was unaware that someone was standing outside the room, hidden behind a pillar, having overheard her entire conversation with her brother.
Erica looked in Eve’s direction with a vengeful look of hatred swirling in her eyes.
Whoever tried to get in her way to marrying Tristan, she would make sure to tear them out of her way, even If she had to send them off to hell.
