Chapter 194: Goodbye

Celine slowly opened her eyes, her lids feeling a bit heavy. She winced as sunlight streamed in through the windows, making her squint. Though her eyes still felt weighted, her vision started to clear, and she took in the room around her.

A dull ache ran along her whole body along with a sweet tingle in her skin, an after effect of all the lovemaking, had her suddenly bolt up in bed as realization dawned on her, and she immediately swung her head to her side, to her utter disappointment to find the space beside her empty.

She wrapped the sheets around her body and quickly got out of bed, she ran over to the bathroom, swinging it open to find it completely empty.

Her heart sank further as tears welled up in her eyes. Still, she bolted out of the bathroom, ready to leave the suite despite being wrapped in nothing but sheets.

He had left... Just like five years ago, he left.

She wasn’t certain if he’d been gone for too long or if he’d just left, but she hoped she could get to stop him. She wanted to clearly ask him if he truly didn’t love her. He had rejected her, but he never straightforwardly said he didn’t feel anything for her at all, when her heart, her mind, her instincts all told her he did.

However, Celine had just taken a few steps towards the door when she suddenly halted, her heart heavily beating in dread, she gazed listlessly ahead of her for some time before she slowly turned around, like giant pearls, her tears dropped onto the clear floors.

Her gaze locked onto the file sitting on the side table by the bed – the same one Tristan had handed her the night before.

Celine slowly walked, dragging her feet that felt as heavy as lead towards the side table. She stopped before it, then picked up the file, with trembling hands she opened it and felt her breath hitch, catching in her throat along with a sob that rose up.

A pen fell from inside the file, and a drop of her tears fell directly on the part that had a bold heading of; Divorce agreement.

Her shoulders slumped in defeat. She had tried her best not to fall asleep so she wouldn’t mistake everything that happened for a passing dream, but now in this moment, it had really become like a passing dream.

She had just asked for a single night, a single wedding night to feel like his bride, and he had made her feel like a woman in the most wonderful way possible. But now it was time to wake up from a momentary dream. Five years ago, she had felt bad when she woke up and found him gone, but now she felt painfully heartbroken.

The pain formed a lump that clogged her throat tightly, restricting her ability to breathe. Celine let herself cry it out, she wallowed in the pain, curling her knees to herself, she buried her face between her palms and sobbed bitterly.

She didn’t know how long she cried for, but by the time she pulled her palms away from her face, her face and eyes had turned red. She gazed at the file lying beside her feet for a few seconds before reaching over her hand to pick it up. She reached over to pick up the pen as well. She had, after all, given her word, after this... She would never attempt to see him again.

She opened the file, holding the pen tightly, her hands hovered over the part she was supposed to affix her signature, she hesitated.

More tears clouded her vision, but a determined look crossed her face and, bracing herself, she lowered her hand and placed a bold signature on the papers.

’Goodbye Tristan... After today, I’ll do everything I can to erase you completely, out of my memories... Out of my mind... Out of my heart’

.....

Neville city, at the Grayson group company building, inside the largest conference room where all the company’s investors were all gathered.

"Congratulations Mr Tristan Grayson, with eighty five percent shares, you have now regained full leadership of the Grayson Corp once again." A man shook hands with Tristan, congratulating him on gaining back Grayson Corp as his own once again.

Tristan nodded, flashing a polite half-smile as he shook the man’s hand.

A few more of the newest investors also came forward to congratulate him. Soon, the meeting was over and everyone dispersed from the conference room.

Just as Tristan turned to leave the conference room, an older man blocked his path. His grandfather, who’d attended the meeting due to his remaining shares in the company, gave him a disapproving look.

The man was obviously terribly displeased about the fact that they now lost Grayson Corp back to Tristan’s hands.

"Do you have anything to say, grandfather?" Tristan raised an eyebrow, puzzled, as the old man just stood there silently, his face twisted in anger.

"You! You rascal! How could you trick an old man like that? You tricked Grayson Corp out of my hands!" He complained. 𝒇𝓻𝓮𝓮𝙬𝙚𝒃𝒏𝓸𝙫𝒆𝙡.𝓬𝓸𝒎

"Yes, just like you and Grandma tricked it out of mine back then." Tristan replied aloofly, not denying the older man’s obvious accusation.

"But we were just doing it for your own good." The older man argued, "You pathetically aloof punk!"

Kaleb barely stifled a laugh at the old man’s furious outburst, hastily covering his mouth. It was the first time he’d seen someone dare to speak to Tristan like that, especially to his face.

The old man continued, "I was...I mean your grandmother was trying to trick you into getting married and having children, but you’re just as stubborn as your father!"

Hearing that, Tristan’s face suddenly darkened, he looked visibly enraged, "Don’t." He gritted angrily, "Don’t compare me to that man." Saying that, he made to walk past his grandfather, but before he could get to the door, the old man spoke up,

"Do you think I don’t know about that woman?"

Tristan stopped dead in his tracks. The anger on his face dissolved, replaced by a fleeting look of pain that shadowed his hazel eyes for a moment. He didn’t turn around, keeping his back to the old man.
