Dungeon of Niflheim-Chapter 884: Foolish husband like foolish wife
"Though the idea still stings I'm genuinely glad that your date with Khione went well Frost." Said Shivali after sharing a moment with his son in law.
"Me too, she's a wonderful woman, I'm grateful to have her in my life." Frost agreed with him, looking fondly on the previous night's activities.
'I'm so glad she said yes.' He remembered that moment of hesitation, when she paused and revealed not just confusion but also fear in her expression. His heart literally lurched to a sudden stop, dread filling every pore as he felt a stabbing pain. He had confessed, opened his heart up to Khione but at the last hurdle she threw an unexpected wrench in the works, nearly destroying his joy, his hope for a happy life with her by his side. Thankfully her hesitation was minor and brief, not a moment later she confessed in turn and their lips met, cementing their relationship. A beautiful, magical moment that he'd ever forget.
Shivali quietly watched Frost drift through his nostalgia finding himself also looking back on that night. Though he missed the final leg of their date he still saw her enamoured expression that grew more and more pronounced as the date progressed. He knew his daughter had fallen for Frost's charms and for the most part he couldn't be happier. Another worry lifted from his shoulders; Frost was appearing more and more angelic the longer he was here.
Suspiciously however Frost felt a strange tug pulling him out of his reflections, a nagging feeling that he was missing something important. He blinked his eyes a few times, glanced at Shivali and searched for the origin of his suspicions.
"….How did you know our date went well Uncle?" He and Khione returned very early in the morning and for his part he went straight to his bedroom, his first contact with another person being the royal guardsmen who awoke him from his rest. He assumed Khione's situation wasn't all that different and given her personality he didn't believe she would have confided in her father about their date in fact she'd likely do her best to keep him in the dark, details wise permanently….so how did he know?
"Urgh." Hearing Frost's query or rather his accusation Shivali choked on his own spit, his heart sinking as the floor beneath him vanished. Just like his wife he ended up dobbing himself in, careless and foolish.
His reaction of course gave strong weight to Frost's suspicions.
"…..You spied on us didn't you?" This time his words were spoken in a much firmer tone and his demeanour shifted, an air of superiority and judgement as though he had gained possession of a smoking gun.
How often could a mortal ever gain the upper hand against a God especially one as old and as powerful as the mighty Primordial Ice King.
The man who not so long ago sat comfortably in his office chair, staring down at him as if he was a mere bug and using just a fraction of his innate strength to crush him underfoot. At that moment Frost was powerless and in pain, now however he had the upper hand and Shivali knew it.
He squirmed anxiously in his seat finding his son in law's piercing glare quite unbearable and rather unbecoming given his station. Deep down however he was actually a little pleased, grateful that despite his identity Frost didn't shy away from breaking his balls. He didn't really want another yes man or a coward in his family. Too many sycophants in one's circle was never a good thing. 𝗳𝐫𝚎𝗲𝚠𝚎𝗯𝕟𝐨𝘃𝚎𝗹.𝗰𝗼𝗺
"Define spied." Shivali attempted to wriggle out from the pinning he had found himself in, showing an ingratiating smile towards his young son in law.
"Really you're gonna try and play it coy and innocent." Did this man not know the meaning of the word shame. He was a damn God for goodness sake, a being who'd been alive for millions of years.
"Doesn't hurt to try." Unphased by his rebuttal Shivali shrugged his shoulders that smile still plastered on his lips.
"I wonder if you'd still be able to be this playful if was your daughter sitting here instead of me."
"Ugh! …..point taken." The old God thought of his youngest daughter and her penchant for violence and untenable tantrums.
'Fuck!' He suddenly realised the shitstorm that could very well be heading his way the moment Khione caught on to his little invasion of privacy.
Frost now had more than just an air of superiority over him, he had blackmail, juicy blackmail and he knew it.
"…..You don't seem all that bothered by my actions, personally speaking?" Through Shivali's eyes Frost was strangely calm, he was more than willing to stick a knife in his gut but there was no anger or betrayal in his gaze nor in his expressions, a stark contrast compared to what he believed his youngest would show when she learned of his actions.
In response to his question Frost smiled, cupped his chin and tilted his head slightly "….Honestly I never expected to be able to go anywhere in this realm without some level of oversight." Niflheim was a world created solely by Shivali, its source of origin stemmed from his essence. There was nowhere within that his eyes and ears could not reach; all he needed to do was actively engage his senses. But that wasn't what Frost was hinting at, it was more the fact that he didn't think Shivali would ever allow his youngest child to go about without any sort of protection even within his own realm. Just like how he would arrange ronsos to quietly protect Nanna and Loki whenever they left the Dungeon.
"….How very understanding of you." It was an answer he wasn't expecting from someone so young and passionate. Heralding wisdom that was far beyond his meagre years.
"Khione will certainly react differently I can assure you of that but unlike her I understand that need to fiercely protect those under your care." Frost didn't fault him in the slightest, agreeing for the most part about having what he suspected as guards tailing them throughout the entire day and evening.

"…It wasn't actually for protection was it?" Shivali became weirdly silent when he spoke of protection leading him to suspect less honourable intentions.
"Hehehe you're gonna laugh when I tell you." The old man's laugh was awkward and nervous sweat dripped down his forehead.
"Try me." Gone was the sense of understanding and in its stead was a dark malevolence.
Under that imposing gaze of his Shivali divulged everything, claiming that he was only hooking up with a caravan that had already left the station, that unlike his wives and children he only intermittently watched the recording, perusing whenever he was able to get away from his Kingly duties.
He sang like a canary and his sense of fear and trepidation exploded as he gave voice to his actions. By pleading to Frost and seeing the intimidating glints that flashed in his eyes he was able to somewhat understand the true ramifications of his impeding judgement.
'I'm so fucking dead!' Ignoring the fact that her mothers started this whole charade and that her siblings watched the whole thing in earnest with snacks and drinks in hand he was anything but innocent. Khione would have no hesitation in dropping the hammer on his head. She feared her mother, could be more forgiving to her siblings after a few bouts of violence but him oh it wouldn't be so easy. She'd make him bleed, slow and painfully, dragging out the torture as long as possible. Despite not being the ringmaster for this operation he'd be the one biting the biggest bullet.
His only hope for leniency was the young man sitting across from him now with his arms tightly folded. Their positions completely reversing from when Frost first walked through those doors.
"You can forget it; there's no way I'm getting on her bad side after all the work I've put in. You're on your own uncle….the most I can do is play devil's advocate after she's beaten you to death." His smile was frightening even in the eyes of a Primordial.
"Haaaaaaa." Shivali's visibly deflated, his massive stature shrinking as he leaned back in his chair and let out the biggest sigh of his life. His future looked bleak. Not only would his baby girl see him as an enemy she was likely going to leave before they had a chance to patch things up. That alone was enough to fill him with dread even before he started to imagine the kinds of punishments she would unleash. Khione was rather creative when it came to her grudges, always knowing exactly where to stick the knife to ensure maximum damage.
Seeing him so defeated Frost couldn't help but feel a modicum of sympathy, he didn't start the operation, but he didn't put a stop to it either. Shivali had ended up seeing Khione at her most vulnerable, when she wasn't the confident and powerful Raging Valkyrie but merely a girl swooning over her first crush thus the betrayal had cut deep and so would her wrath.
If he was going to be of any help at all for this damned father in law of his then he needed to know everything he'd seen, every possible point in which Khione would feel utterly betrayed by his actions only then could they establish some kind of framework for his defence.
"Tell me exactly what you saw, don't leave out any details." Frost leaned forward and practically ordered the noble Primordial Ice King causing him to release another deep sigh before starting the tale proper knowing that his fate was genuinely in Frost's hands.
