Dungeon Raider System-Chapter 780: Spain Part 1
When the battle was finished the towsmen took over the care of the injured bandits, though after the dullahan had been slayed their behavior had changed to their original selves. The same happened to Alice who was remorseful for what she had done, though thankfully no one died despite the gruesome injuries she inflicted upon them.
Luna had the theory that since the people who were attacked by Alice were technically possessed by the same cryptid it healed their wounds to keep them as spare hosts, but Alice refused to believe it despite the evidence and preferred to believe that some part of her was able to resist the cryptid's influence and that was why they survived.
Uriel couldn't care any less about either option as the lives of those bandits weren't his responsibility and he only cared for his friends, though he still resented Nika for draining his flux energy on purpose just to be able to fight the cryptid herself.
"You will pay for this." Were the first words Uriel addressed to Nika when she opened her eyes after he shared some of his remaining flux with her.
"Geez, good morning to you too." Nika scoffed.
"I'm serious, you'll go three months without pay and you won't be able to drink while in service for an entire month." Uriel replied with a smile that could have been mistaken for an evil grimace, though Nika knew better and understood how deeply Uriel cared for her.
"But I'm always on duty." She pouted.
"Precisely." Uriel said, now truly showing his evil intent through his smile.
"Why didn't that thing finish the job!? At least in the grave I would be able to rest." Nika complained.
"Not really, dullahans are parasitic and they feed by forcing the host to wear them like an armor. It will keep draining their host for weeks, months, even years until it finds a better host." Luna explained.
That night they stayed at the house of the teen who told them about the devil's cross in the first place. He and his granfather showed their hospitality by offering them different dishes from their local cuisine.
Being a retired chef, the old man knew what he was doing in the kitchen. He was skillful enough to make the dishes at a lightning speed matched only by Luna's appetite who devoured everything and anything they placed in front of her.
"I didn't want to mention this but... shouldn't you watch your waistline a little?" Nika awkwardly asked prompting Uriel to almost spit his food in laughter.
"I'm... uhm... growing." Luna replied.
"I thought you said she was an adult." Alice blurted out.
"She is, but after meeting her mother in person she developed the delusion that she should be taller." Uriel answered failing to hold his laughter.
"It's not a delusion, genetics work that way. I come from a lineage of tall people, mother, father, grandparents up to the third generation they were all tall. Even grampa Atsa was taller than me and he had a hunched back. It's unlikely that I'm the exception, so I must still have some growth ahead of me." Luna explained.
"Yes, you have a lot of growth to do ahead and on the sides too." Uriel couldn't resist the urge to mock her.
"I have an idea..." Nika whispered something inaudible to Uriel causing a grin to crawl up to his face.
"Hey Luna, if you're fine with getting chubby and all, why don't you let me use my magazine's ability on you?"
"Magazine? What magazine?" Alice asked with curiosity.
"Trust me, you don't want to know." Nika shook her head.
"Uhm... no." Luna replied.
"Come on, it's scientific curiosity. It will also help you keep track of your growth." Uriel pointed out.
"I will let you do it, but only if you show me your chest." Luna replied.
"I'll show you my chest if you do the same." Uriel rebuked annoyed by Luna asking him to examine his body so blatantly.
"Deal." Much to Uriel's and everyone's surprise she agreed, but Uriel quickly went back on it claiming it was just a joke ending their conversation and starting a long awkward silence that became even more awkward when the kid's grandfather went to the table where everyone was eating and apologized.
"I'm sorry, we ran out of food. I knew hunters had an appetite, but I didn't know the extent."
"Luna, apologize to the man."
"I am not sorry, it was delicious."
"Don't worry about it, even if you hadn't saved our town, I love cooking for people who appreciate the food I make." The old man said with a gentle smile.
"Speaking of saving your town, do you mind preparing an incident report to send to the cryptid hunting agency?
I want the bounty on the creature we killed, but I'm not planing on turning in the horror level flux orb so I won't have any proof of what happened." Uriel not only didn't have any intention of turning the flux orb, he also was incapable of doing so since he already absorbed it to become stronger.
Most hunters didn't know they could potentially rank up by crushing flux orbs, but for Uriel things were different. He didn't need to crush them, all he needed to do was absorb them into his trait and they'll add to his flux orb count.
It had been so long since he killed a horror level cryptid that he lost track of how far along he was, though he knew he had to be about halfway to the 10 orbs required.
The next morning the old man had gone grocery shopping and not only prepared them a breakfast worthy of a king, but he also restocked their supplies and Uriel knew he had to have spent more than their monthly income, which left him a bad taste.
Despite being greedy to a fault, Uriel couldn't allow himself to be in debt to another person and he handed the man a stack of credit bills which the man refused to take until Uriel explained he would get over a hundred times that amount if he was to sell the flux orb he gained. It seemed like a generous act, but in reality it was the least he could do since the money came with strings attached.
"There's something I'd like to ask you." Uriel said probingly.
"Anything for our town's heroes!"
"I'd like you to take Alice in for the time being."
"What!? I'm not staying here! You know why I came into this journey and..." Alice was soon cut short by Uriel.
"You're no use for us with only one arm. You can't even fire your bow which means you will only be a hindrance to our group until you recover and since you're an ascended it could take a long while." Uriel said.
"But I'm a hunter, I can still fight or use my trait to give you an edge over the enemies." Alice insisted.
"That would only be true if you actually did anything during the fights. So far, you've proven yourself not to up to the level of this company. Consider this a paid vacation, but if you insist on disobeying me, then you may as well get fired for this." Uriel looked her in the eye to make his point.
This time, both her eyes cried painful tears and not just her 'past' eye which was forever set on the moment Scoundrel met his end.
Nika walked past Alice in silence and patted her on the back in a gesture meant to comfort her. Watching that, Luna attempted follow suit, but due to her short stature and lack of understanding of the meaning of the gesture, she instead patted her ass which, albeit awkward, served the purpose to comfort her even better than Nika's sympathy.
"Sometimes it feels nice to be appreciated." Uriel said as they walked out of the town with townsmen waving at them from all directions.
"Yeah, these guys are awfully nice to people who saved their lives." Nika replied.
"Where are we going now?" Luna asked.
"We don't have a set destination in mind, wherever we go we'll likely find dungeons and cryptids." Uriel shrugged.
"Hey, don't forget we're looking for a Mapple corp. branch." Nika scoffed.
"Whatever the case, if we want to get out of Spain we'll need to go north east."
"Can we go to the Vatican. They have many books I need to read." Luna said.
"Sure, I have always wanted to visit Rome."
"Hang on, there's no way I'm going to the Vatican again." Nika said.
"You've been there before!? You have to tell me what that's like." Uriel asked, but Nika refused to speak and went inside his shadow, which considering how unsettled she was by the mummies in his museum could only mean that whatever was in the Vatican made her even more uncomfortable than just mummies.
As soon as the town disappeared from sight, Luna stopped walking and scanned her surroundings. Then, without so much as a warning screamed to the top of her lungs at the same time she threw a round object at a distance.
"I choose you, Babieca!" The shadowy stead appeared from the seed of the black forest, but it's appearance was different from when she captured it. It didn't have the horse armor and the time period accurate gear. All it had was a saddle and horseshoes.
Without its garments, the horse looked nothing like a supernatural creature which somewhat disappointed Luna. She still took her time to examine the horse in detail and noticed a couple odd things.
The first thing was that when she channeled flux energy, the horse would absorb it and channel it outside in the form of a shadow mane and tail giving it back its elegant and ominous appearance. The next thing she noticed was that instead of teeth, the horse had sharp knives hinting that it was likely a carnivorous creature. fгeewebnovёl.com
Uriel would have loved to cut her investigation short, but he knew it was a useless endeavor and simply watched her closely in case he found something interesting, which was precisely the case when he noticed the oddity in the flux energy.
"Did you just share your flux energy with that thing?"
"It's not a thing, his name is Babieca." Luna replied.
"I know, I'm sorry, but how did you do that? Do you think I can do that with my Jaguar?" Uriel asked.
"There is only one way to find out." Luna looked at him with expectant eyes, but Uriel seemed annoyed.
"That's not very scientific of you."
"Experimentation is part of the scientific process." She stood her ground.
"Well, then I'll have to wait until I recharge my batteries because I'm running on fumes." Uriel replied, adding testing that to his ever growing to do list.
