Dungeon Raider System-Chapter 967: Like father, like son
Chapter 967: Like father, like son
"Did you not hear a thing I said? Security here is too much. Not even a goddess like Dana would be able to breach their security and even if she did..." Jon kept on a rant to discourage Uriel from attempting to steal the treasures stores in the British museum, yet he still facilitated a luxurious car which was reinforced with alloy and was properly insulated from the outside world. The last part being especially important since the curse that afflicted Uriel was still active.
"Did you say something?" Uriel asked honestly as he was too distracted looking outside the window, though Jon took it as him being annoying on purpose.
"Why do I even bother, you may carry my blood but you don’t see me as a father." He sighed.
"That’s not true," Uriel said before producing the Swiss army knife he had treasured for the longest time. "I may not have my childhood memories, but I have this."
"What is this thing?" Jon looked puzzled for a second, then became pale when after inspecting the knife he remembered it. Uriel was born out of what was meant to be a night one stand, but when Dana became pregnant they decided to stay together. However, although she was incredibly fun to be around, she lacked any knowledge about modern society or common sense.
The fact that she wasn’t just a normal person should have become obvious to Jon when he saw her struggle to use the washing machine or when she learned what a mobile phone was, but despite living in modern society Jon also didn’t know how to use a washing machine and he thought little of her lack of knowledge. After all, her ignorance could have been explained by her living in the countryside all her life as she claimed.
It was only when Uriel was around five years old that Jon realized there was more to it than ignorance, when Dana casually gifted a knife to a child that age, her own son at that. No mother in modern society would do something as irresponsible as that and understandably, that knife marked the biggest fight they ever had.
"I can’t believe you still have it, your mother said it was for your own protection." Jon said after catching up with his own thoughts.
"It helped... a lot," Uriel smiled fidgeting with the knife that saved his life on countless occasions, though not only as a weapon but also as a tool which was precisely the cause for Uriel’s confidence. "I’m not saying this will be easy, but this small knife has killed cryptids beyond my rank, performed surgery and deactivated complex dungeon traps."
"That may be the case, but you have to be insane if you want to break into what could be considered the world’s largest vault of treasures with just that!" Jon rebuked. He was as amazed as he was concerned by Uriel’s confidence, but now that Uriel was back to being immortal there was nothing that could make him step down. After all, it wasn’t his own safety what worried him, but that of his friends that at that precise moment were reuniting near the megacity of New Texas to make the final preparations before their grand entrance.
"Don’t worry about that, I have everything under control," Uriel said dismissively as he went back to stare outside the window, then continued in a whisper. "there’s no need for you to come if you’re scared."
"You’re right, there’s no need. I won’t be convinced by your provocations." Jon scoffed, still thinking Uriel was taunting him which was not the case.
"Good." Uriel said and shortly after they arrived at the doors of the British museum.
Most of the modern buildings were renovated after the arrival be it because they were destroyed or because stronger materials were developed, though that was not the case for the British museum. It was a secret to the general population, but it was one of the very few buildings that also used orichalcum which turned it into a nightmare to raid even for a god, just like Jon said.
However, Uriel’s line of thought was that although gods were incredibly powerful and had authority over concepts that could unleash chaos and destruction with but a word, the truth of the matter was that they were more limited than humans at least in the physical world. Just like with cryptids, barriers would keep them at bay, they could be easily exorcised after being identified and there were many ways to deal with each one individually. Humans, on the other hand, while not as powerful, were capable of crossing through some of the sacred barriers unscathed and were also much more difficult to spot which made stealth far easier than it would be for a god.
"So, what’s the plan?" A resigned Jon asked once they reached the museum.
"To walk in, hopefully before the black clouds form." Uriel who had been keeping an eye on the stormy weather common in the area jumped off the car and casually walked to the entrance. freёwebnoѵel.com
"Halt, we’re not allowing visitors at this hour." Said one of the two holy rank hunters standing guard on the entrance.
"Don’t worry, I’ll take care of this," Jon said with a smirk while placing a hand on Uriel’s shoulder. "hey there, fellas!"
"Isn’t this Jon Hunter!? What brings such a celebrity to this place?" One of the hunters sarcastically said.
"Same old, just wanted to take a quick peek."
"That won’t be possible, the museum is closed."
"Come one, it’ll be quick." Jon insisted.
"That’s what she said!" Laughed the man. Judging from the way they conversed it was obvious they not only knew each other but were on good terms, which made sense to Uriel as holy rank hunters were not common at all and Jon was the most renowned one. He was even declared a champion of humanity, a title bestowed to very few people in the past and only after practically saving the world.
Time passed as Jon chatted with the guards using his charm and persuasion powers to convince them. He used veiled threats and even bribery, but although they were slowly giving in, it was unfortunately too slow for Uriel as he could see in real time how the already familiar black clouds started forming above his head in the sky.
"You gave it a shot, now it’s my turn," Uriel pressed Jon’s shoulder with perhaps a bit too much force as the holy rank hunter let out a yelp, which Uriel obviously ignored before addressing the guards and showing ’Bastard’. "I came here to sell this artifact, if it’s not possible just let me know."
"This is... this is...," One of the guards stuttered in shock, then shifted his expression back to a poker face. "I don’t know what this is."
"You’re such an idiot," His partner laughed after which he informed. "you can sell artifacts here, but they need to be appraised in advance. The good old times when the British museum could afford to buy everything are sadly behind us."
"You really don’t know what this is... this sword has Zeus’ power stored in it." Uriel casually lifted the sword in the air and a lightning bolt struck it right on time. Just that would have been enough to convince anyone about the artifact’s worth, but the fact that the lightning was infused with divine flux energy made the point even clearer. Being holy rank hunters they knew that a single strike from that would be enough to seriously injure them, if not kill them in one shot.
"Hold on, are you the dragon rider? The guy everyone’s talking about!?" Instead of replying to the excitement, Uriel just shrugged.
"I was so annoyed I missed it, I even thought it could have been a mass illusion or something."
"Good grief! What good is it working for a museum when you can’t even learn a thing. It’s called mass delusion!" The guards bickered for a few more seconds then both turned to Uriel at the same time.
"Hey, lad, there’s several bets going around about the identity of the dragon rider. We may consider letting you in if you answer us one little thing. We obviously now know that your trait is not electricity, after all you just showed us how the sword words. So, what was that dragon?"
"Just answer us that and we’ll let you pass." The other guard added.
Uriel pondered for a few seconds thinking on what to answer, but then he realized that his entrance had been granted from the moment he caught a lightning with the sword. If not for the artifact’s value, by the fact that both guards stepped to the side instead of brandishing their weapons on the spot. They were scared and there was no need to even give them an answer, however, Uriel decided to reply honestly before walking inside.
"That was not my trait, but don’t think much of it. It just happened to be more convenient than a zeppelin due to circumstances."
