Echoes of the Wild: Tales of a Beast Tamer-Chapter 24: First Fight (3)
Chapter 24 - First Fight (3)
(Chris's PoV)
The Golden Lion lunged at my pet as soon as both were out.
It's a stupid move.
The golden Lion may be powerful enough to even kill my fox but when it comes to agility, the lion is slower than the fox. It looks like John forgot about that fact or did he think that my pet was weak and that she couldn't escape the attack?
"Jump away and use Ice Bullet to attack your previous position", I spoke to Snow using our telepathic connection.
Once I gave my command, Snow followed without questioning back. It's good to know that she understands the situation. If not, I can forget about her and actively look for another pet before the exams or else I can forget about ever getting into a good academy.
Yeah, if that were the case, it would be bad as I need to reach the next rank in order to do so without any backlash.
Sure, some people can bond with more than one at this rank but there is no device to verify such a thing.
Since there is no device that determines whether I can bond with another, I can only do it after I rank up to be on the safe side but that would take weeks and I don't have much time to bond with another pet.
Yeah, the academy exams would be held soon and if I show with a pet that was not properly trained then that would be the end of my career as a Beast Tamer. I would be taking a step back here and that means I would struggle more in the future.
So having a good first pet is quite important to anyone.
---
The ice bullets had hit the target.
Roar!
The lion seemed pissed.
"Snow, use Ice bullets at the lion's body now and then move from your spot", I gave my fox the next command mentally.
Using the mouth to relay commands is a stupid thing. Doing so, you already lost the match, unless you are way above the opponent.
The lion got hit from the ice bullets, which made it stop in that place due to the pain caused by the cold. To make use of that time, I ordered Snow to hit again but this time the body before moving.
Roar!
Another Hit.
The battle continued but slowly, the lion slowed to a point where fighting anymore was useless. This is not a life and death match nor an official match where the match ends when the opponent dies or surrenders.
Mrs. Hale appeared as promised and stopped the match.
"Chris Argent Wins", Mrs. Hale announced and once she announced the result, I stepped off from the stage.
"Next, ....".
---
The next match was held after my match, and after that another until everyone had a match with another opponent.
Once the matches were over, Mrs. Hale gave a speech on to remember what they did during their match and find the reason why they won or lost.
If the reason behind their loss or win, is the opponent then there is a lot of improvement is needed for themselves. After giving the advice she didn't say anything more.
I thought that she would tell us our pros and cons but she left that for us to evaluate and find them.
Though I would love to hear about them, there is nothing that I can do about that. As Mrs. Hale said, the school is a place to learn about things that we don't know, but that doesn't mean that they are going to spoonfeed us.
Spoon-feeding us might be the greatest disservice that they could do to us.
All they had to do was show us the path and destination, whether we would take the path to reach the destination or fail and all that would depend on us, the ones who make the decision.
Since there was nothing else to do after the matches were over, I returned home.
---
When I returned there was no one in the house. After eating the lunch prepared by my mother beforehand, I returned to my room.
There is something that I need to do immediately and that is to evaluate why I won against John.
If I had won by luck, then I need to change something that can help improve myself. Luck may be part of one's strength, depending only on luck too much would end us in bad positions.
So, I don't intend to rely on luck too much. Sure, I would love to have luck on my side but I may face someone with higher luck one day and if I keep depending on my luck, I would certainly end up in a ditch and no one would know about that.
So, let's examine my match with John.
See what made him lose and me win. At the same time, let's see what mistakes I made and I should try to expel them from my life.
Repeating a mistake twice is a taboo and I shouldn't make that.
I hope this match helped me in that matter.

I also should attend other matches before the exam for the academies start. I can learn a lot through these and I can do way better than I would.
Though the matches would do good, there is no way that I can go fight every day, that would only cause problems in the long term.
I think I should take two days gap before returning to school to test how much Snow improved. Today she already fought a match. So, she would need rest and I can't make her train her today.
For the next two days, I should concentrate on improving the fighting style of Snow.
Now, let's see what mistakes both of us made and try to come up with a plan to erase those mistakes and at the same time improve ourselves.
Yeah, in a battle it was not just the pet but also the tamer who plays an equal role. Even if one fails in their work, the match is done for.
