Chapter 27 - The Evolution (2)

After having a heavy dinner for the night, I took Snow into my room and locked it.

Disturbances during evolution are not good and may cause damage to the beasts. This is why in the wilds, it is not easy to find high-ranking beasts that don't have clans or packs.

If there was no one to protect them at such a crucial stage, other beasts might take advantage of that fact and attack them. An evolving beast would be more nutritious to a beast than a beast that was of the same rank as them.

Higher-rank beast meat is something that lower-rank beast drool over for but getting that is not an easy thing. They can't defeat a high-ranking one, especially as ranks move up.

At lower ranks, that may be possible a bit but as they climb up, the differences between one rank and the next rank increase by a lot.

So, they could only look for any leftovers from a high-ranking beast after killing and feasting another high-ranking beast. Even if that were the case, the competition would be very high. Every low-ranking beast would be on the lookout for such a thing.

No beast could let go of such a chance to improve themselves. After all, in the wild, it's kill or be killed.

This is also one of the reasons why beasts bend their knee to humans to become their pets.

High-ranking tamers would have high-ranking beasts and that means they could defeat high-ranking beasts in the wild. So, there is a chance for them to taste good food without much effort.

Even if that wasn't possible, high-ranking beasts are intelligent. They understand that human parents provide resources that they earn for their children or they could trade from others as long as they have the money.

So, it is a good deal for them to become pets of such tamers.

---

Even though we are not in the wild, it doesn't mean that there won't be any disturbances. I informed my family that I would evolve Snow and they shouldn't disturb us but no one can predict the future.

So locking the door was a precaution.

"Snow, let's start your evolution to Bronze Rank", I said.

Kyu!

She responded that she was ready and so I started to use my second talent.

One should remember that I have two talents. First was a Beast Fusion, where I can fuse with my pet beasts. Though I have such powerful talent, the grade was only C. The improvement that I would get wouldn't be too high.

So, unless I am in danger, it's best to let Snow fight on her own than to fuse with me.

The second was Beast Evolution, which is the greatest asset in my possession. With the help of this talent, while ranking up the beasts, I don't need the materials that others use. I can just supply my energy as an alternative and it would work similarly.

I never checked that out but from what the talent description said that should be the case unless I am looking for some greater evolutionary path for my pet. In that case, I might need some materials, which I can't afford them.

So, I would go with what I have. There is no need to worry about such things. Okay, let's start the process. I wasted too much time already.

[Beast Evolution]

As soon as I used my talent, a deep blue energy emerged from me and went towards Snow, and then entered its body.

The energy didn't move in a straight line. No, he moved around a little before finding its target. Once the energy entered Snow, I felt the connection between us getting stronger and also felt that the evolution had started.

Kyu!

Kyu!

Snow started to make small noises but as time went on, they were a bit louder but not as loud as I thought that they would be. They were weaker than what I expected after reading the books.

I was there when my elder sister evolved her pet and the cries it gave out kept the family awake during half the night. Only then it had fallen asleep.

Snow too cried for an hour or so, trashing too but not as wild as I thought would. Soon it fell asleep.

Through our connection, I knew that nothing bad had happened to Snow and it was now passively upgrading. So, I shouldn't disturb it.

Since it fell asleep, I too went to bed.

Early the next morning, I was woken by something cold. I woke up to see Snow licking my face.

"Hey buddy, you are alright", I spoke as soon as I saw that Snow appeared to be okay, though instead of lazily sleeping, it woke even me up.

I took a good look at it again to see if something changed and it did. It has now two tails, instead of the one that it used to have.

I immediately checked its status.

--

Name: Snow

Species: Two-tailed Frost Fox

Rank: Bronze, Level 1

Talent: Dream State (Mutation)

Skills: Crystalline Body(Mutation); Frost Bullet; Frost Fall;

--

[A/N: Sorry I have written Ice Bullet as Snow's skill sometimes but it was Frost Bullet.]

The species changed from One-tailed to Two-tailed Frost Fox. It also got a new skill, Frost Fall for reaching Bronze Rank.

It is an attacking skill, where Frost Bullets can be unleashed upon a group of enemies at the same time. Well, it is actually frozen rain that falls from up above but from that height, the speed would be more damaging as a Frost Bullet, if not more.

With such changes in Snow's status, my status changed too. Even without seeing, I could feel the change but to see how far I progressed, let's check out my new status.

"Status"

Name: Christopher Argent

Age: 18

Talent: Beast Fusion (C); Beast Evolution (SSS);

Rank: Iron, Level 9

Pets: Snow (Frost Fox);

Skills: Dream State;

--

I reached Iron level 9 but that is where my luck ends. I didn't get a new skill from Snow this time around.

When someone bonds with a pet, they would get a skill for sure and when the pet upgrades, the tamer could get that new skill as well but that is not guaranteed to happen.

I could only wait for a new pet to bond in order to get a new skill now.
