Echoes of the Wild: Tales of a Beast Tamer-Chapter 30: Academy Exams (2)
Chapter 30 - Academy Exams (2)
(Third PoV)
"Headmaster, I believe that this year's students are diligent and many awakened good talents", one of the teachers spoke.
The others nodded and supported the teacher.
What the teacher said was true. There were many good talents this year among the students.
The province that they belong to is called Province 6, not because they were sixth powerful but because this was the sixth region formed by humans to recover the lost land.
Even though they were named sixth, they were actually tenth in power. There are only fifteen provinces and that means, though they were in the first half to be settled, they are in the second half when compared to power.
There are many reasons for that.
Lack of resources and lack of talents.
For example, if there was no one who awakened a good talent, then how can they improve themselves?
To improve one needs resources. The unavailability of proper resources would lead to slow improvement of the tamers, even if they have good talents.
If a tamer has Frost talent but there are no Frost Beasts nearby to tame or resources that the pet frost beast usually eats are not available, how can they improve?
Though the alliance may provide the beast that was required, they don't give out the free food that the beast needs. So, the growth is lower than it should have been.
Even if there are talents or resources in the province, not having the correct resources for the talents would hinder the growth. So, no matter how rich the province was, in terms of power, it may end up even in the last
"Hmm", the headmaster nodded, "Let's see how well they would do?"
Hearing those words, the teachers turned silent and started to watch the performance of their students, which as teachers of the school, is a privilege they enjoy.

(Chris's PoV)
Hmm, the secret realm, is just like outside, at least from what I heard.
I have never left the city since I was born but I heard about how it is outside from my family members who go outside every once in a while.
If a beast tamer doesn't go into the wild, they can't get the resources that they want to grow. They would forever remain what they were at the beginning.
Of course, if they have rich parents, without leaving the safety of the home, they can improve but that would be a paperweight, worth nothing.
This 𝓬ontent is taken from freeweɓnovel.cѳm.
Once they face any danger, they would die within moments. Of course, those rich parents would have given them defence artefacts but when facing a powerful enemy that you can't fight and can only passively defend, how long can those artefacts survive?
Even if the powerful parents want to go and save their kids, they can't save what is already dead. So, even if there is reinforcement that would arrive soon, surviving till then wouldn't be easy, especially if those reinforcements were tied up somewhere far away.
So, in my opinion, one should train themselves and their pets regularly, not just improve them just by eating excellent food.
The strength gained in that manner would of be no use as that person wouldn't know how to use that in a dangerous situation as they never would have experienced such a situation before and not have learned how to control that power.
Improving like that is just a disaster in waiting.
---
Anyway, whether others would do or so, has nothing to do with me. Since my family was weak and poor compared to many other beast families, for me such an option was never there. So, I need to take the difficult route, improvement through training and fight more than just by feeding.
"Snow", I summoned my pet.
Kyu! Kyu!
Snow was excited to see the secret realm.
Though the city has trees, and open areas where I usually train with Snow, they are the true wilds. Beasts belong to the wild. Even if they were tamed from birth, it was written into their bloodline where they truly belonged.
The secret realm mimics the vast wild outside the city. So, the happy noises from Snow.
"Snow, I know that you are happy but remember, here there would be enemies everywhere unlike in the city where order is maintained", I controlled her enthusiasm.
If she believes that the secret realm is as safe as the city, then that would be troublesome.
In the city, there are guards who oversee that no law is broken or check if wild beasts have broken into the city. If any such scenario occurs, they would respond and peace would be brought back quickly. So, the city is safe most of the time.
I never faced any dangers as I never left the city but my family made sure to know the dangers that I could face but for Snow that was different. She was just born a month ago, and has no idea about the dangers that we may encounter here.
All this month was used to improve her and myself through training and fighting my classmates in the school. So, there was never time to speak with Snow on these matters, mostly because she would just sleep other than when eating or fighting.
Even though that was the case, I should have made sure that Snow knew about the world a bit more. My mistake.
The good thing was that the secret realm was a controlled realm and there would be no beasts beyond Bronze Rank. If any appeared, they would be cleared as this realm was specially allocated for academy exams.
Of course, the chances of that happening are also very low as there would be many students who come every year. They would almost clear out all the beasts in the secret realm. The alliance has to introduce some beast eggs and newborn beasts into the realm, so that there would be enough next year.
At least that was what I heard from the teachers in the school. Whether it was true or not, since most wouldn't have reached bronze rank, the officials should have removed most of bronze rank monsters.
So, I am a bit safe here. If it was in the wild, I would be in a dangerous situation from the beginning. So, its best to rectify the mistake now itself.
"Snow, listen to me. There are...."
