Chapter 75: Earth Has Leveled Up

Chris held the hilt with both hands as the glowing blue blade sank deep into the boss’s brain.

He did not stop there and drew on the very last burning drops of the Berserker potion flowing through his veins and activated his newest skill.

[Limit Breaker.]

"Gahhhhh!" Chris roared, his voice echoing over the ruined district.

His entire body erupted in blinding blue light.

The aura burned so bright it looked like a dying star was resting right on his shoulders.

He pulled the heavy Ruin Knight sword downward with every single ounce of strength he had left, slicing the giant eye straight from the top to the bottom in one devastating motion.

A huge wave of condensed blue mana exploded outward from the blade.

The energy wave tore through the air, travelling past the monster and slicing deep, smoking gouges into the concrete buildings standing far behind the beast.

The giant pupil tore apart into two separate pieces.

The Kaiju let out a weak, gurgling noise before its newly formed legs buckled under its own heavy weight, and its body collapsed, hitting the street with an impact that felt like a localised earthquake.

The shockwave shook the broken pavement and threw a massive cloud of dust high into the air.

Chris let go of the sword.

His energy was entirely spent, his muscles screaming in pain as his vision darkened.

He started falling backwards toward the unforgiving roads far below.

Before he could hit the ground, a rope of white web caught him securely around the chest. Julien landed softly on the street beside him, using his clawed spider legs to lower the exhausted blonde tank safely to the broken road.

The surviving hunters slowly crawled out from behind the piles of rubble.

They stared at the dead monster, their mouths hanging open, and then they looked at the strange duo sitting in the middle of the street.

They were totally dumbfounded.

A hunter with a broken arm pointed a shaking finger at them.

"Hey, blonde guy," the man stammered, his eyes wide.

"What rank are you exactly?"

Another hunter took a nervous step back from Julien’s terrifying, multi-eyed form.

"And why is your friend suddenly a bug?"

Chris sat on the ground, breathing hard, and just shrugged his heavy shoulders.

Julien did the same, his chitinous skin clicking together as he moved.

They were too tired to explain the complex mechanics of merchant contracts and high-tier potions to a group of strangers.

Glowing text suddenly filled Julien’s fragmented vision, blocking out the street.

[Congratulations.]

[Host has helped defeat a Red Gate boss.]

[Earth has levelled up.]

[Tier 3 Inventor unlocked.] 𝐟𝐫𝕖𝗲𝘄𝚎𝗯𝕟𝐨𝕧𝐞𝚕.𝕔𝕠𝐦

Julien froze in place.

His multiple dark eyes widened in pure shock.

What did that mean?

A planet does not just level up.

Did the tutorial phase end?

Did the system just expand its rules across the entire globe because they killed this specific monster?

He turned his mutated head to his blonde friend to ask him what the glowing text meant and opened his monstrous mouth to speak.

"Krrk chk skree hiss," Julien said.

His new spider vocal cords only produced a weird gibberish.

The human words were entirely lost in translation.

Chris looked up at the terrifying spider hybrid standing over him, raising an eyebrow.

"Are you cursing me?" Chris asked, wiping a streak of dust from his sweaty forehead.

"Chris!" a familiar voice called out from behind them.

Alice and Kiara were running down the street, navigating carefully through the chunks of broken buildings and destroyed cars.

Alice rushed directly to Chris’s side, her pale face full of intense worry.

"Are you guys okay?" she asked, kneeling and looking over his bruised armor to check for fatal wounds.

"Yeah," Chris groaned, slowly pushing himself up to his feet with Alice’s help.

"We made it."

A few of the other hunters walked up to the fallen monster.

They started stabbing the thick grey legs with their swords and spears, letting out their fear and frustration on the dead carcass.

Kiara stood a few feet back, watching them with a deep frown.

She pushed her crooked, broken glasses up her nose, her face looking unusually pale.

"Wasn’t it too simple?" Kiara voiced out, her tone uneasy as she looked at the dead Kaiju.

Chris let out a tired, breathless laugh.

"Sorry for not dying, Kiara."

"That is not what I mean," she insisted, shaking her head fast.

"This is a Red Gate boss. We only have a very few elite hunters in the upper districts who can even defeat them. High-tier guilds usually take days of planning to clear a threat like this. I know Julien’s premium potions work wonders, and you are equipped with a really good sword now, but something just feels wrong. It went down too fast."

Julien heard her.

The logic clicked in his mind.

He turned his head toward the dead monster and walked slowly toward the ruined face, his clawed feet clicking against the pavement.

He stopped right in front of the huge, sliced pupil and stared at the dead tissue for a long minute, waiting for the system to offer a loot drop prompt.

Nothing happened.

Suddenly, the severed half of the pupil twitched.

It rolled backwards in its socket and looked directly at him.

Julien did not hesitate for a fraction of a second.

He opened his jaws and spat a thick volley of glowing green acid directly onto the severed eye.

The corrosive liquid burned hot, making the dead flesh melt and decay into a bubbling puddle of grey sludge.

"What is it?" one of the hunters asked, taking a nervous step back from the smoking puddle.

Julien could not answer them.

His new spider senses were screaming.

A freezing chill ran down his unnatural spine, making his antennae twitch wildly.

His passive skills were warning him of a threat far worse than the one lying dead on the ground.

Shreeeeik.

A ear splitting sound echoed through the district again.

But this time, the noise did not come from the dead beast on the ground.

Every single hunter on the street froze in place.

The casual relief vanished from the air as they all slowly looked up at the red sky.

Huge shadows blocked out the remaining light.

Three colossal figures dropped from the swirling portal high above.

They were the same size as the boss they had just killed.

But these monsters did not need time to adapt or slide on the ground.

They landed neatly on the cracked street, the impact shaking the entire block and throwing everyone off balance.

Their legs were already fully formed and ready for a fight.

Every face in the district turned white.

Three giant eyes snapped open, locking their deadly gaze on the exhausted survivors.

Julien looked at the timer in his system.
