Enchanting His Heart: His Little Fox-Chapter 55: Sacrificed One
Her entire body froze, the voice was faint, yet it coiled tightly around her heart, those few fleeting words etched onto her mind.
The voice was so familiar and profound.
... In the end, she really couldn’t hold on any longer, her eyes slowly closed, and in that last moment, she thought, he must survive.
Tang Si, you must survive.
When Song Yi was rescued from the fire scene, she was carried out by a firefighter, her long hair drifting with the movement, her eyes tightly shut, her delicate, charming face stained with blood, her body mottled and filthy.
Yet, there was a certain messy beauty to it, decadent and dark...
...
Song Yi woke up the next day, her eyes opening to a sea of white, the air filled with the smell of disinfectant and the beeping of machines.
She moved her hand, an IV drip stuck in it, her whole body felt as if it had fallen apart, especially her throat and lungs, which seemed to still carry the scent of burning.
Li Wen pushed the door open and saw Song Yi lying there with her eyes wide open, taking in everything.
"You finally woke up! You scared the hell out of me, you know that?" Li Wen walked over holding a thermos of hot water, "You’re really my ancestor."
"If I hadn’t seen you yesterday, the hospital would have informed your parents, and you wouldn’t have had a good day ahead."
"How is it? Do you feel any discomfort?" After his rant, he still couldn’t set aside his worry for her delicate condition.
"Help me sit up first." Song Yi didn’t pay attention to his nagging, she croaked out.
Upon hearing her own unpleasant voice, Song Yi furrowed her brows.
Actually, she wasn’t seriously injured in the fire yesterday, only exhausted to the point of collapse.
One can indeed be tired to death.
At the moment, she had recovered quite a bit, at least her complexion wasn’t deathly pale, showing some hints of color.
But her demeanor was clearly off, a sickly beauty, delicately charming, now looking even more pitiful in her frail state.
"Will my voice get better?" she asked.
Li Wen assured her, "Of course it will, drink some water."
"Why aren’t you asking if your face got burnt?" Li Wen said with a bit of sarcasm.
Song Yi didn’t take the water cup, instead, she touched her face immediately, "Am I disfigured?"
"I’m just kidding," Li Wen placed the water in Song Yi’s hand and took the porridge from the bedside, stirring it, "But you did miss out on a few business deals yesterday, the ones you set up appointments for."
"Those are trivial matters," Song Yi, relieved to know she wasn’t disfigured, breathed a sigh of relief and spoke softly.
Li Wen raised an eyebrow, with a look querying what would constitute a big deal to her.
Song Yi locked her eyes on her, rippling like water, bright and radiant, yet holding something deep and dark within.
"Oh, my lady, are you trying to eat me alive?" Li Wen, feeling unnerved under her gaze, couldn’t help speaking out.
The gaze was too eerie and profound.
Song Yi brushed her forehead with one hand, dropping her head suddenly, staring at the blanket, her voice muffled as she asked, "What happened yesterday? Were there any firefighter casualties?"
She was a bit afraid to face it, fearing bad news, afraid that he had died.
Just like when she was a child... someone had died for her, to this day she doesn’t know if they are alive or dead, too scared to confirm.
Li Wen’s actions paused, her tone became heavier, "I heard one died during the explosion."
"Crash—" The cup in her hand instantly fell onto the blanket, the white fabric instantly soaked and stained, spreading layer by layer like the footsteps of death approaching her, claiming her life.
Her heart felt like it was submerged in ice water, she held her breath, wanting to ask for more details but the words stuck harshly in her throat, she didn’t dare to ask a single word.
Li Wen saw the situation, assuming she had dropped it accidentally, hurriedly put down the porridge, preparing to lift her blanket, "Why so careless, you can’t even hold a cup steady."
But halfway through lifting it, she found it wouldn’t move, looking up, Song Yi was clutching tightly to a corner of the blanket...
