Chapter 46: Composed

The crowd went feral as, the duels continued one after another. It was like seeing a dazzling shower of brilliant elements playing into the air.

Soon enough, it was Calix’s turn. Vian and Adrian had already won their match... without any difficulty obviously.

Stepping onto the stage, he exhaled lightly watching as his opponent came up on the ring. The boy had blind hair and green eyes with an arrogant smirk placed on his face.

’Ah, just my luck...an arrogant young master.’ Calix thought, as he saw the smile on the boy’s face.

Ring.

The match started, however both stood there as no one moved.

"Common, hood boy. This magnanimous one will give you a chance to strike first." Sticking his finger out the blonde said.

Calix raised an amused brow, after all it wasn’t everyday he see’s someone like him here. He tilted his head slightly, as if he was watching a curious creature.

"Are you sure?" He said lightly from beneath his hood.

"Huh? Are you...are you questioning me?" With a cold tone, the blonde’s eyes sharpened as he said that.

"You think I need to be sure for fighting the likes of you?" Shouting, he flicked his hand towards Calix as water compressed and shot towards Calix like a lance.

"..." Without trying much Calix dodged the lance easily as he moved a single step right from his original position.

"You!" The blonde fired more of them, as a volly of long water lances shot towards Calix. For a moment, Calix stood still as he watched the rapid spears coming towards him.

’Hmm, not that bad to be honest. Controlling so much water element...seems he wasn’t just bluffing, huh.’ As his thoughts finished, he vanished from the Blonde guy’s sight.

Tsssh.

The spear’s hit the hard floor as water particles sprayed lightly into the air, the rock cracked into bits from the sheer strength behind the attack.

’Where did he go?’ The Blonde thought but just then, a cool and calm voice came from his back.

"What is your name?"

Sharply the Blonde, turned watching as Calix stood behind him, his hands not even touching the hilt of his sword, casually dangling at his side.

"Are you saying you are so ignorant that you didn’t even glanced at the screen to read your opponents name?" The Blonde guy frowned deeply.

"Oh yeah, there is that. My bad." Saying it, he casually turned his head towards the screen completely ignoring the opponent that what it looked like to everyone atleast.

"Erodel Brichus." Calix’s called Erodel name lightly.

"You!" Erodel gritted his teeth, as he thrusted his hands towards Calix.

Wave.

A blue wave of water rose from the earth, towering atleast ten metres as it moved to swallow Calix. Calix was surprised, he didn’t expect his opponent to be this good in his element.

But...that was the end of it.

As the large wave hovered above him, aiming to swallow him whole, his raised his hand. Amethyst shot out as lightning condensed in a orb, and moved rapidly towards the wave.

The small meager orb struck the gigantic waves yet instead of being swallowed by it. The orb resisted, as it burst destroying the wave in a shower of white steam and fog.

Erodel’s jaw dropped on the ground, as for a moment he couldn’t believe what his eyes saw.

The steam spread across the arena floor in thick waves. For a second, everything was hidden.

Erodel stood frozen, staring at the place where his ten-meter wave had just collapsed into nothing.

"That’s impossible..." he muttered under his breath.

The crowd roared in disbelief.

Even the instructors leaned forward slightly. Destroying a spell that large with a single condensed orb that was formed in an instant was not something a normal candidate could do.

The fog slowly began to thin, as a silhouette formed within it.

Calix stepped out calmly, lightning fading from his fingertips. Not a drop of water touched him. He looked almost bored.

"You control over water is pretty well," Calix said casually. "Your compression and manipulation is stable. The density was good too." Erodel’s face twisted.

"I don’t need your evaluation!" he shouted.

Anger flooded his expression as he stomped the ground again. This time, water did not rise gently. It surged violently, spiraling around him in multiple streams. Thin blades of pressurized water formed mid-air, rotating rapidly like spinning discs.

"You think breaking one wave makes you superior?" Erodel roared. "Let’s see if you can survive this!"

The blades shot forward from every direction.

They were fast.

Faster than before.

The arena floor was carved apart wherever they passed, leaving deep cuts in the stone. Calix exhaled lightly.

He stepped forward.

Lightning spread across the ground beneath his feet in branching lines, as he slid. Instead of dodging wildly, he moved with minimal effort, shifting just enough to let the blades miss him by inches.

Every movement was small.

Too Efficient.

The final blade came straight for his throat. Calix just tilted his head, and then...

He vanished again.

Erodel’s pupils shrank.

Before he could react, thunder cracked behind him.

Calix reappeared at his back once more, exactly where he had been earlier.

"You should calm down," Calix said quietly. "Water flows better when it isn’t forced." Erodel spun around in rage and threw a punch infused with condensed water.

Calix caught his wrist. There was no struggle, no dramatic clash just a brief and simple contact.

Amethyst lightning crawled along Calix’s arm and seeped into Erodel’s body. Erodel’s eyes widened as electricity surged through him.

His legs suddenly gave out.

A controlled burst of lightning detonated from Erodel’s chest. The impact sent him flying backward outside the ring.

Silence filled the arena for a heartbeat. Then the stadium exploded into noise.

Calix stood alone in the center of the ring, lightning fading slowly around him. He adjusted his hood slightly and glanced at the screen as Erodel’s name dimmed.

Above, Vian watched with clear interest.

Adrian’s expression remained unreadable, though his eyes had sharpened.

And among the thousands in the crowd, one thought was spreading quickly...

The hooded candidate was not just strong...

He was also terrifyingly composed.
