Endless Debt-Chapter 991 - 76: Beyond the High Wall
The first action of the temporary action group was completely out of control due to the Tyrant’s interference. It was not until the last moment that Bologue realized he had been used by the Tyrant as leverage against the Shadow King.
The present Oubos is shrouded in dark clouds. The Order Bureau, the King’s Secret Sword, the King’s Shield Guard, the Tyrant... one terrifying power after another has joined this frenzy. At the center of the storm is that divine corpse.
Bologue followed Holt out of the office and once again arrived at the lookout of the Desperate Outpost. Bologue gazed at the ruined city amidst ashes and flames, and an inexplicable feeling welled up inside him.
All current disputes originate from behind that high wall. Suddenly, a forbidden memory flashed back before Bologue’s eyes.
Within the Ethereal Realm, Bologue crossed time and space, witnessing King Solomon’s crowning with his own eyes, along with the Devil lurking in the shadows, witnessing it together with him.
The envious Leviathan.
He toyed with Hill’s life, witnessed King Solomon’s crowning, and in subsequent eras, he manipulated Xilin’s life until this Power of Dominance fell into Bologue’s hands.
Bologue had thought about the strangeness of his Alchemy Matrix, but he never imagined even this Alchemy Matrix came from the hands of the Devil.
Was it really from the Devil’s hands?
King Solomon was so great. He created many great creations, and even after his death, these great creations continue to emit residual heat.
Set above the firmament and located within the lunar crater is the Eye of Omniscience, and the multitude forged with "United" technology, lurking within the Inverted Hall.
Thinking of his mysterious connection with King Solomon, Bologue couldn’t help but wonder if the Alchemy Matrix he carried was also a creation from King Solomon.
Then what kind of note or role would he play in this grand symphony?
Bologue felt the mystery he faced was growing larger, yet at the same time, he was delving deeper into the heart of the mystery, almost finding all the answers.
"Isn’t it beautiful?"
Holt’s voice rose from beside him, pulling Bologue out of his immersive thoughts.
"Behind that high wall, the regeneration of this world’s Calamity and the fiery extinction have reached a perfect balance—renewal and destruction, glory and evil... It’s an unimaginable landscape, belonging to only a select few."
Holt sighed repeatedly. Then he cast his gaze towards Bologue, seeing Bologue’s previous contemplative demeanor, thinking that Bologue, like him, was captivated by such a strange scene.
"But thinking about the essence of this beautiful scene, to be honest, I don’t find it beautiful at all. Instead, it’s like a dormant volcano ready to erupt anytime. When it awakens, the roaring lava will first fill this place and then engulf wandering crossroads, overflow the Great Rift..."
Bologue spoke of destruction, his words filled with worry.
"Indeed, it is so beautiful, yet fraught with danger."
Holt was fascinated, yet also saddened by it, "Take a good look, Bologue. Such a beautiful scene will not last long."
"What’s wrong?" Bologue became vigilant. Could there be some change about to occur here?
The Abandoned Land loathes change the most. Any change has a significant chance of disrupting the near-perfect balance here, and once the balance is out of control, all that awaits is destruction.
"The work of our fourth group is not just to watch this place, but there are also scientific aspects, such as recording various data to observe the conditions behind the high wall. In several past explorations beyond the high wall, this place has also been used as a supply point."
Holt continued to look into the distance, "According to our observations over the years, the intensity of the fiery extinction is slowly decreasing. In other words, after burning for nearly seventy years, that deadly flame finally shows signs of extinguishing."
Bologue froze in place. He was unclear what exactly fiery extinction was, but he knew that this terrifying force caused him agony in the Black Prison, and it was this force that turned the earth into scorched earth, where everything turned into salt pillars.
The fiery extinction tore the earth apart, causing the Holy City to fall into the depths.
"Does the Decision Room know about this?"
Bologue grew tense. If the fiery extinction extinguishes, then this world’s Calamity would also lose its balance. Once that monster breaks free and fully awakens, not only will the remaining ruins of the Holy City be destroyed, but the Great Rift will also face a catastrophe.
"We informed the Decision Room months ago, but their response was indifferent. It seems they already have a plan."
Holt sighed, "It’s just a pity for this ruin... What a beautiful ruin it is."
"We have organized several explorations before, and each time, we achieved a great harvest. Yet, after so many explorations, we still haven’t fully explored everything beyond the high wall."
Holt asked rhetorically to Bologue, "You know what this means, right?"
Bologue answered, "With the extinguishing of light comes the awakening of calamity in this world—it will destroy everything, including the knowledge, secrets, and technology behind the high walls. Even the last bit of King Solomon’s legacy will be devoured by it."
Now, Bologue deeply understands these secrets and knows the value behind the high walls. "There’s King Solomon’s legacy hidden behind those walls... It could be a treasure of tremendous value and might once again propel the progress of this world."
"It’s about to be destroyed," Holt squinted his eyes, "I hate this place. This damned place has nothing. I can only find ways to entertain myself, but I have a passionate longing for the things beyond the high walls."
Holt fell silent as he spoke.
The heat stream generated by burning light and the calamity of this world surges upward, transforming the Abandoned Land into a canyon of rapid winds. This stream of air will spread to the wandering crossroad, eventually dragging ashes and mist into the sky above Oubos.
The balance of the Abandoned Land not only affects the interior of the Great Rift but also the exterior.
"I’ve applied to the Decision Room for an exploratory action. Before the light is completely extinguished and the calamity of this world is fully awakened, we must conduct one final exploration beyond the high walls."
Holt said to Bologue, "Previously, our greatest obstacle in exploration was the influence of the light. It completely covered the core area of the Holy City. The blazing fire refused any prying eyes. While it is close to extinguishment, perhaps we can break in and seize King Solomon’s legacy."
Upon hearing Holt’s plan, Bologue was shocked. A slight misstep, and the entire exploration team would be annihilated within the Holy City. But if they return alive, it will be a tremendous fortune.
King Solomon almost equates to man-made miracles. Whatever great creations are found from his legacy, Bologue would not be surprised.
"The core area of the Holy City... Are you referring to the Golden Palace?"
Holt nodded affirmatively, "According to records, the deepest the Order Bureau reached was in front of the Golden Palace. They wanted to advance further, but the light enveloped the Golden Palace. All intruders will turn into pillars of salt."
He paused, "According to records, in front of the flames of the Golden Palace, countless pillars of salt stand tall."
During the Fall of the Holy City, soldiers who broke through the Golden Palace, under the burning light invoked by King Solomon, turned into pillars of salt, as if punished, enduring to this day.
Bologue felt an inexplicable sense of fortune, as if he were the lone survivor in this cruel destruction, and it was all thanks to the Undying Body granted by the Devil.
It’s truly unsettling.
Setting aside Holt’s plan and King Solomon’s legacy, what truly impacts Bologue is the forthcoming total collapse of the balance in the Abandoned Land.
No one can guarantee whether the Order Bureau can regain control of everything, pressing all the crises within the Great Rift.
"It feels like there’s a volcano about to erupt beneath the city," Bologue joked, "I’m glad I didn’t buy a house in Oubos, or else the mortgage wouldn’t be paid off before the house goes up in flames with the entire city."
Holt laughed at Bologue’s words, "You’re much more humorous than I imagined."
"Not bad," Bologue shrugged, "I’m trying to change myself, to become more approachable."
After hearing all this, Bologue felt a bit of a headache and asked perplexedly, "Why are you telling me this?"
Each action group operates independently, thus Bologue didn’t explain to Holt what he did up there, nor did Holt question Bologue.
Both maintained silence until Holt began to talk about the Holy City.
Holt said, "Oh? This matter, the Decision Room has approved my proposal. They are preparing for action."
It was within Bologue’s expectations that the proposal passed. It was born from King Solomon’s technology. Following its operational logic, it would desire more of King Solomon’s technology for self-optimization and iteration.
"And then?"
"The Decision Room asked me to draft a list for the action."
Upon hearing this, Bologue felt a sense of unease.
"I recommended you, Bologue Lazarus, the Restorer of the Fall of the Holy City, the Undead."
Seeing Bologue’s increasingly distorted expression, Holt continued speaking.
"You are the most suitable candidate."
